“A wonderful place to stay. Fantastic countryside and wonderful h”

Reviewed 16 May 2013

Have visited the most hospitable Cwm Irfon lodge many times over the last 5 years. We stay here and go cycling in the surrounding spectacular countryside. The accommodation is ideal and the breakfasts are the perfect start to a big all day ride up in the hills. And when you return the sauna is ready and a great way to stretch off those aching limbs. If you can persuade the owners to cook for you you are in for some of the best currys I have ever had. Love this place!!!

“Cwm Irfon Lodge is amazing”

Reviewed 16 May 2013

I stayed at Cwm Irfon Lodge in a group of 10 friends, all cyclists from London escaping for the bank holiday weekend for a spot of training in the beautiful Welsh hills. It was Gyles and Karen that made our weekend so wonderful though. Before setting out in the mornings we were treated to coffee, porridge and a cooked breakfast -- the perfect way to start a day 2ith 100-150km riding ahead of us. Best of all though was comeing back of an afternoon/evening to a sauna and the most incredible dinners. Gyles and Karen and genuinely talented cooks and there's nothing better to mend tired bodies then a beautiful, big dinner with friends in the their cosy dining room! I can't recommend Cwm Irfon Lodge highly enough. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the surrounding countryside is mind-bogglingly beautiful and our hosts were perfect in every way. Great for a family stay too I would imagine and would definitely consider staying there again with my wife and two boys!

“Cym Irfon Lodge never disappoints”

Gyles and Karen always look after us so well. As a group of cyclists, we go every year to cycle over the stunning local countryside. After a hard days riding, there is nothing better than coming home to Gyles & Karen's amazing dinners. Gyles cooks fantastic authentic Indian food and Karen does a mean breakfast to send us off with. Nuthatch Cottage is a great little cottage with a fire place, TV, kitchenette, dining table. Not that I have ever used it as their food is too good.

“Total 'get-away from it all' break”

Reviewed 5 Oct 2012

We were looking for a totally rural setting near to some good wild swimming sites and found, in Cwn Irfon Lodge, the perfect location. Looking out onto a steep hill, dotted with sheep and within easy reach of The Washpool and an attractive waterfall, the cottage was comfortable and warm. The shower was a somewhat less powerful than the nearby waterfall, but the kitchen was well equipped and towels were plentiful. After swimming at Wolf's Leap and a remote lake, we really appreciated being able to use the sauna at Cwn Irfon which the owners Gyles and Karin had warmed up for us on request. A welcome cake, provided by Karin, was a really nice touch.

“A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting.”

Myself and 2 friends wanted to escape London at the begining of the olympics. We certainly did. Travelling by public transport it was great that our host picked us up from the station, took us to the shops and then to the cottage, they couldn't have been kinder. 2 of us like to walk and had plenty of beautiful places to explore, by the river and up in the hills. One has had problems with her knees and could not walk far, she did not have to, we could sit in the sun (when it came out) on the terrace or strole around the beautiful garden. She could make it along the quiet lane and enjoy the river and woods without going far. The cottage had every amenity we could have wanted and we were very comfortable.

“Far from the madding crowd !”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2011

We first appreciate the location so secluded in that fabulous valley;then the welcome and the house itself;its garden and the walks from the house It was great being welcomed in a warm house with flowers and a cake in the living-room,the house was comfortable and our hosts were very helpful;. Only the weather and therefore the fishing could have been better!

“Peace and Tranquility in Cwm Irfon”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2011

On arrival we were met by Gyles who showed us around the cottage. We didn't need an explanation of the local area as we stayed a couple of miles up the road only the year before. We met his wife Karin the day after. They were both very friendly and went out of their way to help, even with the loan of a book to help identify a Crossbill which appeared on the nut feeder out side the cottage door. The cottage had just about everything you could want, unlike alot of other places we have stayed at. The location is bliss. Isolated and yet only 3 miles from the "town" of Llanwrtedd Wells which has great Pubs & restaurants. Trying to pick out the best bits is hard because everything was exactly what I wanted for this holiday. I hope to be back again next year. Ps You'll also be sure to get a really enthusiastic welcome from "Conker"!

“completely chilled!”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2010

we stayed in woodpecker and nuthatch, 2 couples and 6 dogs! it was superb, everything you could possible want - scenery was beautiful with mountains, forest, river and lots of space, even the welsh rain didn't dampen our spirits! the dogs loved it too. would definitely go back and would recommend to anyone.

Response from the owner Thanks for the lovely review - we look forward to seeing you all again! best wishes Gyles

“A tranquil, secluded location”

A wonderful location just a short distance from the town. Excellent hosts who will even prepare a delicious meal if wanted. The surroundings are idyllic with woodland and river walks close by.

“Real Ale Wobble 2009”

Reviewed 10 Feb 2010

Every year we head over to Llanwrtyd Wells for the Real Ale Wobble and every year we stay at Cwm Irfon Lodge. I love this place it is quite, peaceful and set in stunning country-side. The cottages themselves are very comfy and fully equiped a bit like a home from home. Both Karen and Gyles are great hostes and it is a really pleasure to stay, easly one of my best weekends away.
