Your own charming Victorian cottage in the heart of Nevada City, a beautiful, historically preserved gold rush town in the Sierra foothills. Step back in time just two and half hours from San Francisco.
This beautiful, unique home was built in 1880 and known as the Teddy Bear Castle. Lovingly restored and completed updated in 2004, it is now a perfect little Victorian gem from which to explore all that Nevada City and the environs have to offer. Walk out your front door, through the garden, out the front gate, and you will find yourself in an amazing Victorian town, with beautiful historic homes, cafes, shops, galleries, wineries, and restaurants to suit every taste, all within walking distance of your own beautiful cottage. Stroll around town and enjoy the ambiance, the art ( Nevada City has long been a haven for artists), the shops, and the mountain scenery. Stop for a coffee, a snack, have lunch or dinner in one of the wonderful eateries in town, or come back to your own charming place and cook dinner at home. A short drive will bring you to the wonders of the Sierra foothills and tLhe gold rush era. Beautiful scenery, pristine forests, river crossings with amazing swimming spots, hiking trails, and historic gold mining towns, some still with residents, some with only the local ghosts roaming the streets. And there are three championship golf courses in Grass Valley and Auburn, within a half hour's drive.
This beautiful, historic home is noted for its numerous stained glass windows, all original, imported from England around at the turn of the last century. It is all natural wood, redwood and elm, with many unusual architectural features both inside and out. Beautifully and comfortably furnished, fully equipped with all modern amenities including large flat screen TV with DVR, gas fireplace ( built with cobblestones from old San Francisco), washer/dryer, modern fully equipped kitchen, off- street parking. It has one large bedroom upstairs with a king bed and sitting area, and a den downstairs with a day bed that can be two twins or another king, and will sleep 4 comfortably. Two additional children can be accommodated on futons. The living room/ dining area are spacious and beautiful, and open onto a large, private deck. That, and the balcony upstairs off the master bedroom, afford wonderful views of the comings and goings on Broad Street, And the mster bedroom balcony is a great vantage point for the parades and bike race.

“Beautiful cottage with great location”
Beautifully decorated cottage at the top of the main street in Nevada City. Several very nice outdoor seating areas. Our only complaint is some street noise, especially sleeping with the window open to stay cool. It wasn't too bad until 515AM Friday when leaf blowers and a street cleaner were right outside for almost 30 minutes. I will say the street was really clean. Other than that, we loved it.
“Want to keep it a secret!”
I love giving reviews to good things. The thing about this rental is it is so wonderful I want to keep it a secret so I have no problem booking it on future trips! Yes, this place is that good! (And I travel here on a regular basis to visit family.) I knew when I saw this place online that it was charming and was not disappointed on any level. The space is just wonderful! My kids (9 and 12) totally felt like staying here was an adventure. They wanted to look for secret tunnels. No sure you could find a better location to stay, amazing to be able to walk out onto the main street of Nevada City. At some point, I want a summer stay at the Two Room Inn so I can enjoy a summer night (with wine) on the front porch. If I get really lucky, a winter stay with snow!
“Would do it again in a heartbeat!”
My husband and I stayed here after stumbling across the property a year before. The inn was absolutely beautiful! It was like walking into a hundred year old home in pristine condition but with all the modern amenities - full kitchen, washer and dryer, pots and pans and dishes, everything you could possibly need. The master bedroom was beautiful and there was plenty of room should we have chosen to have family come stay with us. The property is walking distance from downtown so it was easy to walk across the street and get a latte or downtown for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It was so close that we could shop in the morning, come home and take a nap or just hang out and then go back in the evening for dinner and a play at one of the local theaters. We loved the fact that we could park our car and not have to drive again for the entire weekend. We loved it so much we plan on going back in the summer as it is also walking distance to the river. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay or a better person to rent from. I think this is going to become a yearly thing for us!
“AN ENCHANTING STAY IN THE TWO ROOM INN”
Hi Marney, I wanted to let you know how much my friends and I enjoyed staying at The Two Room Inn. It was nice and clean and so warm, cozy and enchanting. Every time I turned around I noticed a new print, photo, lovely painting or wall hanging. I loved the Mt. Tam print and the beautiful appliqué wall hanging someone made for you.Your attention to detail is amazing. All your colorful dishes and utensils were so festive. I loved your interior design, you have amazing taste. The drapes and other window treatments were beautiful, all your furniture was perfect for your beautiful and cozy house. . Your TV cabinet was very clever. Your CD collection was great. All in all we really enjoyed it as you can tell. Thank you for your recommendations on the many wonderful restaurants in Nevada City. We enjoyed delicious meals at Bistro 221 and Sopa Thai Cuisine. We also enjoyed preparing meals in your completely stocked kitchen. It was so nice being so close to the restaurants and shops. I hope we left it in satisfactory condition for your cleaning crew, we took out the garbage and did a couple loads of laundry. We look forward to returning again many times in the future. This is much more than a home away from home. We never wanted to leave! The historic beauty of this property embraces all of the charm of Nevada City and is perfectly located along the main street for easy shopping and dining. We had everything we needed to feel comfortable and the owner Marney is sweet as can be. She is very responsive and accommodating and we will definitely return.

I have to say that staying at the Two Room Inn was such a pleasure, it was just like home with all of the conveniences. The proprietor has thought of everything to make visitors comfortable and cozy and brochures were placed on a table with information about near by attractions. Before our check-in date we were send information about how to use the amenities where to find extra towels and blankets and information on places to eat and it even had reviews as to what was on the menus. I do hope to visit again in the future and am telling all my friends what a wonderful place it is to stay. We stayed during the Victorian Christmas Fair and all we had to do was just step outside the door and we were there, no parking worries. Don't miss this if are staying in Nevada City or Grass Valley.
“The perfect Cottage”
Our stay at the cottage was the perfect girl getaway. The location was great, we shopped, we did some wine tasting, we went out to breakfast all on the same street and didn't have to drive! The cottage was so adorable and comfortable, we could sit on the porch and watch all the action out front. The kitchen has everything you need to stay in and cook, play games and just chill. Can't wait to come back.
“Fabulous Girls Weekend!”
We have been going on girls getaway weekends for many years and this is the first house we have rented that the photos are truly accurate! The house is breathtaking. There is that extra "attention to detail" in every corner. We were so happy we had the opportunity to meet Marney at the Uncorked event (which deserves its own review). Your home is lovely, well maintained and made us feel warm and relaxed. For the visiting cook, you will find a well supplied kitchen! So much to do, sample the night life, Farmers Market, wine tastings and for the foodies, fabulous restaurants all within walking distance of this house. “Charming cottage in perfect location”
I rented the cottage for a weekend in January, and could not have been more pleased! The location is fantastic, and the house is really lovely. There were just two of us, but you could easily sleep 4-6. Marney has done a lovely job with decorating and making sure that everything, and I mean everything, you could possibly need is accounted for - from the wine glasses to the washer and dryer. The central location was great as well, we didn't have to move our cars for the entire weekend. I'm also picky when it comes to cleanliness of rental properties, and the house was immaculate. And, Marney was lovely to work with. We've already reserved the cottage again for another weekend getaway.
“Amazing...and an unexpected experience that I will never forget”
We rented this cottage for the week between Christmas & New Year...Family tradition was a week at Dillon Beach annually but it had been a really tramatic year in our family & I decided we needed something unfamiliar & hoped that would take my mind off of my current trama...Wow!! We arrived and immediately were amazed that the online description & photos seemed so minimal compared to seeing this beauty in person...She was gorgeous!! We parked & carried our luggage in. I must have walked around for 2 hours just looking at every beautiful heart warming detail & as I poked around and took in the atmosphere, I was blown away by the attn to detail the home owner, Marney put into this home. You truly felt like you were home, the decor, the amenities, the special warm touches, the scent of the home, etc...I had no idea why I landed in this cottage besides the fact that I literally went on line and pointed, clicked and sought out the opposite of where I usually vacation. Marney knew we were bringing my 5 year old son and had his room all cozy and child friendly, warm blankets and fluffy pillows, strategic night light, etc...The restrooms all had a different scent of soap and while thats suck a girl thing, we women love that!! She had matches for the fireplace, table clothes for the dining room, but the kitchen just blew me away and thats always my fave room in the house. She had the lil touches that make a woman want to spend time in the kitchen. Can opener, sugar for coffee, gum in the kitchen drawer & get this...laundry soap in laundry room...The detail from the woodworking, antiques, & door knobs were just amazing...If u ever have the chance to stay here, you have to...She will become your friend & you wont want to leave, & so will Marney...What a wonderful good & genuine person. Funny thing is, we loved the cottage & Nevada City so much, we relocated there a month after our visit to raise our son. I drive by the cottage weekly when out and wave as we pass.
