Description from owner
Description
Dating back to 17th Century, our Grade II listed Yorkshire longhouse is located in the picturesque market town of Pickering, at the edge of the beautiful North York Moors National Park. The cottage is a fine example of a cruck-framed Yorkshire longhouse which was traditionally built to accommodate both family and cattle under one roof. It is featured alongside similar longhouses in Ryedale, in a book entitled 'Houses of the North York Moors' by Royal Commission on Historical Monuments. The house is brimming with character having a host of original features such as the oak cruck beams, stone flagged floors, exposed stonework, a traditional cast iron Victorian range with a 'smoke window' in the dining room.
The spacious accommodation is decorated in a style to compliment the character of the cottage. Downstairs, the central dining room has a seating area around the traditional range and a cottage dining table and chairs. The dining room leads into a large kitchen (28'x12') with seating for 8 around a farmhouse table. The kitchen is fully equipped with a range cooker, microwave oven, fridge, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker and access to a freezer and laundry facilities. Also leading from the dining room, is a cosy snug with its own decorative open fireplace and a separate lounge (17'x17'). In the impressive lounge, the cruck frame is exposed to the eves in a vaulted ceiling, there is plenty of comfortable seating around a wood burning stove, as well as a Freeview TV and DVD player.
Outside there is a small courtyard garden with garden furniture accessed through patio doors from the lounge. Limited parking is available at the rear of property and ample street parking in front of the property. Secure bike storage is available on request, with bike hire available locally.
As you might expect from the age of the cottage, the floors are uneven and doorways are quite low in some rooms. This property is situated on a main road with access from a private courtyard. It is fully double glazed and sound insulated to minimise road noise.
Limited parking is available at the rear of property and free on-street parking in front of the property. Dogs are accepted by prior arrangement. Good local transport links.
