Description
Our "little house by the sea" is located on one of the best beaches in Belize in the little village of Hopkins. Hopkins is a quaint, friendly and safe fishing village steeped in the Garifuna culture.
Week days are generally quiet and weekends you will be able to take advantage of the local culture as the sounds of music, drumming and weekend events take place.
The house is based on an open concept design for the main living/dining/kitchen area with cathedral ceilings. All windows and doors are screened to let the Caribbean breezes in and keep the bugs out!
Each bedroom is equipped with AC and ceiling fans. The master bedroom has a queen size bed, the guest bedroom has two twin beds. A futon in the living room can be made into a double bed. The living rooms/dining room has several ceiling fans.
The water filtration system for the house features multi-filters allowing us to offer our guests unlimited fresh water in both the bathroom and kitchen.
An outdoor shower allows you to wash off the salt and sand before going up to the main house.
The house is located in the southern end of the village but grocery stores, restaurants, shops, local goods, veggie stands, bakeries, local library are minutes away by walking. Inexpensive bike rentals are available near by.
There is something to do for everyone either in or very close to Hopkins and our local Property Manager, Mirko, is a registered agent with Tropic Air and a licensed tour operator ready to meet any of your needs during your stay. He is available to arrange internal flights, airport taxi transport, as well as any adventures you would like to try. The range of things to do is endless: snorkelling, fishing, scuba, hiking, birding, cave tubing, zip lining (our favourite), to horse back riding, ancient ruins or sight seeing.
Or maybe you would just like to kick back, swim in the warm waters off the sandy beach steps from the house and then enjoy some ZZZ's in the lounge chairs or hammocks before starting happy hour on the shaded deck. The beach slopes gently out into the water and about 150 feet out there is a sand bar on which you can walk north or south.
The lower unit of the house is reserved for use by the owners when they visit.
There are security cameras on the property, including one inside the rental unit. You will be instructed, on arrival, how to disable this camera to insure absolute privacy.
Casita del Mar is registered and licensed with the Belize Tourism Board (BTB).
Casita Del Mar Cancellation Policy:
To cancel a reservation and receive a refund of deposit, the guest must notify us at least 30 days prior to scheduled arrival date in Hopkins, and we will return your deposit, minus a 1-night non-refundable fee plus a 5% transaction fee. Refunds cannot be issued if a reservation is cancelled within 30 days prior to arrival. Also, funds cannot be issued if a guest decides to shorten their stay within the 30 days or during the reservation period.
We base our weekly rates on stays of 7 nights and monthly rates are based on reservations for 28 nights.

Response from the owner I am very disappointed that you had issues during your stay at our home. As you can see from our reviews, we have had only the highest ratings of our home and our service provision. I can appreciate that the hot water issue was frustrating but I can assure you that, as per factory recommendations, we have the unit serviced annually to make every attempt to ensure that our guests are not inconvenienced. The unit is unique and requires a speciality technician to do the servicing. As he lives 2 hours away, scheduling can be a challenge. As a result of your experience, we will changing to a regular hot water tank system which can be readily serviced locally. The fridge has never been an issue as previous reviews can attest. Our property manager has regular inspections and servicing done on all of our appliances in an effort to ensure against equipment failure as much as is possible. Our property management staff have always been diligent to ensure that the house is clean, safe and pleasant for our guests. I am at a loss to understand your perception of our staff. Our guests have repeatedly "raved" about the service and care they have received from our property manager and our house reviews reflect that. Further, I do know that the property management staff take great pride in the service they provide not only to our home but to all of the other homes for which they provide services in Hopkins. Not one home has a negative review about the care and service they provide. Their rating in Hopkins' rentals is stellar. Vacations are a special time and I regret that you left Hopkins unhappy with your experience. We would be pleased to have you return some day and give us another try.
