“A lovely stay at the tree house!” The tree house was perfect - right on the water, nicely furnished, and equipped with everything we needed for a fun and relaxing vacation (kayak, snorkeling equipment, grill, blender, a dive master neighbor, and access to the water taxi). On top of all of this, we loved that it was a small private home that we could afford, not just another unit in a condo complex or resort. We are a young and active couple so access to the water was perfect for us - water activities for fun and the view for relaxation! We used the house kayak & snorkeling gear almost daily. We were even able to kayak all the way to the reef and see some amazing stuff out there! We hung out on the hammock under the house and watched the friendly people go by. On our first day there, we were hanging out under the house and bought burritos for lunch from "the burrito guy" who rides by on his bike. This turned out to be our daily ritual (he even brings delicious tamales upon request). What could be better? A major highlight of the trip was a fishing and snorkeling trip with the neighbor Dive Master, Genie. We caught a bunch of fish (Snapper, Grouper), had a great time snorkeling, and then grilled up our fish for dinner! The best fish I've ever eaten...it was truly an amazing day! Evenings we went on long walks at sunset and were escorted by dog friends, had a drink at nearby restaurants or grabbed food to grill for dinner at the Mata Grande store and even had at a BBQ there one afternoon. I could go on and on about how amazing this trip was and how we enjoyed the Tree House, but all I have left to say is... when we left we started planning next year's return to the Tree House!

“Amazing Place” I have stayed at Wataview on two different occasions- one week in February and one week in april. Incredible place. The staff and chef are above superior. Chef Sylvia has worked all over the world and her dishes are far superior to anywhere I've eaten with five star chefs. She is delightful and accommodating to any requests. The house has everything you could want for entertaining and enjoyment...beautifully decorated, great rooms, beds, supplies, support. I would highly recommend Wataview...it is beyond amazing- you'll love it.

“Amazing haven of tranquility and comfort” We split our Belize vacation into two - 5 days in the jungle river tubing, cave exploring, horseback riding, and visiting Mayan ruins - followed by 6 days of beach paradise at Casa Rana. It was perfectly timed as we were suitably tired and ready for relaxation by the time we got to ambergris. Diana welcomed us at the private dock and introduced us to the gorgeous house. It was even more beautiful than what the pictures indicate on the website. It was very spacious for just my husband and I but we loved having all the amenities of the house, including the very comfortable media room (with large DVD collection), amazing master bedroom with view over the sea, the very well-equipped kitchen, plunge pool, dining room with fantastic mood lighting, reading nook, and my very favorite - private dock where we could just sit and watch the dolphins, rays, and fish swim around. Diana has put so much love into building this house as you can see from all the little touches and special designs. It was very peaceful to wake up every day to our own little quiet haven where we could thoroughly enjoy the beauty of nature's creations in a luxurious setting. We enjoyed snorkeling at Hol Chan and Shark Ray alley (organized through White Sands Dive Shop), dinner at Portofino (they will do free pick up and drop off by boat), kayaking out for 5 minutes to Mexico Rocks and snorkeling there, and swimming around the dock to see Diana's little "aquarium" in the rocks around the dock. We bought groceries in San Pedro town right after landing at the airport and did another shopping trip in town during our stay but otherwise, enjoyed how secluded we were in a self-sufficient environment far away from the noise of town and large resorts. Both Richard and Diana were incredibly helpful and friendly while giving us as much privacy as we needed. Highly recommended for couples looking for a romantic getaway or families/groups looking for a high-end self-catering beach vacation.

“Beautiful beach, spacious and spotless accommodations!” We stayed here as a group of 7 for 3 nights. Our driver was waiting for us at the dock and when we arrived, Judy checked us in right away. Each bedroom was spacious and well-maintained - we definitely had enough space to spread out and relax! All units in the resort faced the beach - loved being steps away from the water! Huge balcony with 2 hammocks. Kitchen was well-stocked and the convenience store was right around the corner. The only downside for us was that it was 2.5 miles from the town (too far to walk, $10USD taxi ride each way). Although it was far from town, we did love the secluded and clean beach we had all to ourselves. Overall we had a great time and all loved our stay here. Would highly recommend to families and groups travelling together.

About San Pedro

"Welcome to San Pedro, where you won't be a stranger for long" is a familiar sign you will see once you arrive here in the heart of Ambergris Caye, Belize. If you're after a relaxing vacation, then start with FlipKey to find the perfect rental property that will allow you to have a trip you’ll never forget.

About San Pedro

Although sometimes the whole island is called San Pedro, San Pedro is actually found in the southern part of Ambergris Caye in Belize.

Belize's largest island has a history dating back to the Maya, where they originally used it as a trading post. With trading routes between Yucatán in the North and Honduras in the Spain, the island was the perfect spot.

The people of the island are called 'San Pedranos' and speak a mixture of English, Spanish, Creole, and Mayan. If you're after knowledge of their heritage, the islanders are happy to share!

Although tourism is currently the number one industry in San Pedro, it was once a thriving fishing community. Fishing is still a big contributor to the economy with local cuisine showing an emphasis on seafood. Lobster season starts around June, so this would be the best time to visit if you're a fan!

What to do in San Pedro

If diving is your thing, then San Pedro is the ideal spot. There are many dive operators leading tours to over 35 different sites!

Belize's most valuable asset is the Belize Barrier Reef and it is a diver's paradise. You can go to Hol Chan Marine Reserve—Hol Chan is Mayan for "little channel"—where you will be able to visit the inside and outside of the reef. There is also the Great Blue Hole, where you can snorkel for a full day!

If you've exhausted yourself from all the underwater activities, then you can visit the vast arrays of restaurants, bars, and clubs they have in San Pedro. Islanders will often have stalls selling local dishes such as tacos, burritos and rice and beans, as well. Be sure to stop by for a taste of the authentic local fare.

San Pedro is bustling with nightlife and can go on well into the morning hours—evenings are very much a social event!

Top travel tips for San Pedro

The main method of transportation in San Pedro is by golf cart! Aside from walking and biking around, it is not uncommon to find golf carts speeding down the road. Hire one for a fun and fast way to explore.

It's a short twenty-minute flight to San Pedro airport from Belize City Airport, and it's only a short taxi journey into town.

Swap high heels for sandals in San Pedro as the streets are sandy and unpaved! Urgency doesn’t really exist in San Pedro, so you can really take the time to slow down and take in the beautiful sites that you are witnessing.

San Pedro shouts tropical paradise and is full of warm, friendly faces. Spend long days lounging in the sun or swimming with Caribbean reef sharks, and then wrap it all up by relaxing back in your very own FlipKey property! Search for your perfect rental, today!

The Tree House, charming 2 bedroom beach house Belize is open to tourism again
Island Living!

From the first cup of great Belizean coffee on the veranda each morning to falling asleep by the sound of rustling palm leaves, our 2 week stay at the tree house was extremely relaxing. We loved the long walks on the miles of sandy beaches, stopping for a lunch or drinks along the way. Every walk was a different adventure. During our first walk we met a local on bicycle selling fish and lobster tails. He then periodically came by the house with his fresh catch which we cooked on the grill. Eating fish that was caught only hours before is epicurean delight! Our arrival was made easy by armando who picked us up at San Pedro airport and transported us by boat to the tree house. Before boarding the boat, he took us to a supermarket where we bought our initial supplies. The ride on armando's boat through the mangroves and along the ambergris Caye was a wonderful introduction to the area. The house is well situated near a costal water taxi stop that took us to San Pedro for restaurants, shopping or ferries to Caye Caulker. It was also an easy and lovely walk along the beach to nearby restaurants, each affording us outdoor seating under the palms looking out at the reef, where we enjoyed the excellent local beer and food. Close by is Matte Grande, a surprisingly well stocked store where we purchased our food. The owners were very friendly, providing delivery right to the house as well as being a wealth of information about what to see and do. Don't miss the delicious weekend barbecue, right beside the store. The kayak at the house provided us with easy access to the nearby barrier reef for swimming and snorkeling. We went on an amazing snorkeling boat trip to Hoi Chan Canyons Marine Resort and Shark and Ray ally with Coral Reef Divers. Genie, the diver-owner and a neighbor, and his crew provide a wealth of information about marine life and local lore. But best of all, was experiencing relaxing island living. We will come back!see more

Relaxation, tranquility, excellent adventures

5 of us recently enjoyed Holy Week at Sunset Beach. What an extremely relaxing vacation - I utilized the hammocks every morning and whenever I could in the afternoon/evening. There is a lovely strong breeze that comes in from the sea usually in the morning and evening. For us, this was a great vacation spot, as many other places were sure to be packed with Spring Breakers; we had mostly peace and quiet, as usually 4-5 other small groups/couples occupied the other rentals. Location is good, a golf cart was very handy for getting into town but not totally necessary. We used bikes frequently and used the kayaks a couple of times. Suya tours is right behind the building and a small corner store half a block away. There were several great restaurants in town, coffee shops, etc. My only negative was that (I think this applies to San Pedro in general) the beaches are not good for swimming - it is very shallow and has A LOT of turtle grass.see more

Great thanksgiving!

Our family of 5 loved our Thanksgiving holiday at Casa Rana. We had great food in San Pedro, at Portofino, at Rojo, and from the grill and kitchen at the house. We snorkeled with the sharks and rays and on the reef right in front of the house. We did a half day fishing trip and caught fish from our own dock. We all slept in the hammock, relaxed on the porch and had a wonderful rest. Diana is certainly in the running for host of the year!see more
BELIZE - CASA TORTUGA VILLA
Relaxing Getaway with Fabulous accomodations

It rained sometime everyday. But have no fear, the 10 adults staying here had plenty to keep us busy. We snorkeled, sailed, fished, drank, partied, played chess, and best of all, relaxed. The natives are friendly, and our hostess Maria and her staff treated us like royalty. No wonder she is considered the best cook on the island! Absolutely loved it!see more

What a House

My first time in Belize and we were spoiled to death. The house and staff were way beyond my expectations.Invited for a birthday celebration and 10 of us were extremely comfortable. Chef Sylvia did an amazing job with local foods. The view never quits and the friendly people of San Pedro were always helpful. I will return. Jim Omahasee more
