Welcome to Ríaluz, my intimate luxury hideaway beside the ocean with a secluded ten-mile stretch of beach. Nestled within the federally protected biosphere of Río Lagartos, you will share the land with birds, beautiful seasonal flowers, and a breathtaking coastline. My off-grid and solar-powered luxury villa sustainably coexists with the environment and the untouched landscape.
The home is bright and airy, with windows facing the sea and the abundant flora and fauna of the reserve. Simple but with attention to detail, the space is elegantly comfortable and connected to the sea, the sky, the stars and the birds. Ríaluz is perfect for nature lovers, conservationists, birders, families looking for a unique place to explore, couples desiring a romantic getaway, and those looking to unplug from their busy lives and reconnect to nature.
There are numerous activities in this rich area that I recommend to all my guests. A guided nature tour will take you to see many species of birds, including the densest concentration of flamingos in Mexico. There are crocodiles, rare birds, and many other animals! This tour will also take you to see Las Coloradas, lakes famous throughout the world for their pink color. Specialized birding tours and guided fishing tours can also be arranged, and paddle board, kitesurfing and kayak rentals are available, with instructors who can meet and teach you right at the beach. The nearby Chichen Itza ruins and cenote are majestic and highly popular, and the lesser known Ek Balam ruins are very beautiful and sparsely visited, with a magical cenote you can swim in. The nearby village of Rio Lagartos is lovely to walk through, and the delicious fresh fish served at the restaurants feeds all of the Yucatan peninsula. For interested guests our caretakers can also cook daily Yucatec cuisine for your group, which they will do in your kitchen so you can observe the recipes. The miles of open beach are wonderful for walking along, finding diverse and ever-changing shells, daydreaming, and taking in the local flora and fauna, and swimming in the ocean is of course fantastic! The water is gentle and shallow. You can wrap up your day by star-gazing at night from the bed or terrace and taking in the brilliantly clear night sky.
I received special permission to build within this precious biosphere reserve and bird sanctuary after working for several years with the Mexican wildlife protection agency, the first permission ever of its kind. My promise to them has been to operate the lowest-impact and most environmentally friendly coastal development in the whole of the Yucatan. Ríaluz is a model for eco-friendly luxury living.
The house is comprised of two buildings, giving guests an ample sense of space and privacy. In the main structure is the living room with a fully equipped kitchen and a master suite with a king bed. The living room has two sofas that can be converted into twin beds. Outside, a bridge connects the deck of the main structure with the adjacent one, where the second bedroom suite can be set up with either a king bed or two twin beds. The beach is accessible from all rooms by sandy footpaths leading 50m to the shore. Above the main building is a lounging terrace with an outdoor stargazing bed and a bar. From everywhere in the house, there are spectacular views of the sea.
The house is many miles deep into the federally protected biosphere reserve, and far from the lights and sounds of civilization. Other than a few homes, the reserve is free of human intervention, and it teems with flora and fauna. My home's incredible intimacy with nature affords travelers an unparalleled experience of Mexico's natural beauty.

What essentials should I bring?
Easy clothes, swimming suit and sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, close-toed shoes or hiking boots, and something to wrap yourself with in the evenings when the wind might pick up. Beach and shower towels are provided, as well as shampoo, conditioner, lotion and soap - all made organically from honey from the area.
Are there grocery stores or restaurants nearby?
There is a grocery store on the drive in from the airport which is listed in the directions. Oil, salt, and other cooking staples are provided.

My villa certainly isn’t for everyone, and I’m glad that I could work with you to find alternative accommodations after you arrived and were not expecting to be so remote. And thank you as well for bringing attention to the snakes. I mention it in the listing description and in the documents I send ahead of time to all travelers, but there are several species of poisonous snake in the national park (they are native throughout the whole Yucatán peninsula). They are rare to come across, and we have an antidote kit on the property, but it is important for interested travelers to be aware of. We are really in nature’s world here, and this intimacy should be accompanied by both respect and care. I designed my home for true nature lovers, adventurers, and those seeking to travel off the beaten path. I hope you find a better fit for your travel style with other locations.
