“Relaxing and tranquil” This was a great place to stay at. Progreso is a nice lazy fishing village at the tip of the Mexican state of Yucatan. It was a great place for our kids to hang out in the pool with comfortable accommodations. The beach is just a short walk down the road. If you like searching for shells, it is basically untouched (My daughter went crazy). The beach itself is not wide and a bit rocky the first few feet to get into it. However, it is shallow for about 100 meters or so out and wonderful warm water. From the beach you can watch the sunset in the evening. Progreso itself is not a destination really. Downtown is just okay. There are many things to do within 2 hours of time and Merida is only 20 minutes away. There are several supermarkets in town to bring drinks and food in. If you are looking for a great, relaxing place that feels like authentic Mexico, this is a great place to stay and visit. The site manager, Carlos, is a great guy and Jason, the owner, keeps on top of things. We would definitely return.

“Yucatan Comfort” Our hosts Paul and Sue have a wonderful location. This was our third year of staying with them and we highly recommend this beautiful location. The apartment is wonderfully furnished it has WiFi access, a roomy comfortable kitchen area, very clean comfortable living area and huge bedroom. The pool area is awesome day and night. The patio area is very intimate and comfortable, perfect for dining and morning coffee. The apartment is located close to the beach, restaurants. grocery and the ball park is right around the corner. The restaurants in the area are all within easy walking distance, reasonably priced and delicious. Paul and Sue were always available with dining and travel suggestions to insure an interesting holiday. We look forward to coming back next year. We did a Dental holiday with a modern dental clinic just across the street, and we would highly recommend them also!

About Progreso

Featuring idyllic palm trees, sandy beaches and crystal blue waters, Progreso is a beautiful Mexican destination.

As one of the most scenic locations with vacation properties to rent on FlipKey, you’ll experience the vacation of your dreams. Get ready for the ultimate rest and relaxation as Progreso is a paradise of tranquility.

About Progreso, Yucatan

Progreso is a stunning port town in the Mexican state of Yucatan. Home to the longest pier in Mexico, the town is an ideal getaway from the hustle and bustle of the inland. Founded in 1872, the town’s popularity has grown – it’s popular with cruise tourists as well as those who wish to spend time away from the city.

The best time to visit the town is from March to July when the winds are low and the weather is pleasant. Many local people travel to the port in July and August and the beaches can become very crowded. So if you prefer quieter periods, you may want to avoid this time.

Progreso has a fairly humid climate with high winds in December to March when it’s cooler. There is little rain in the town and the temperature tends to be pleasant all year round.

What to do in Progreso

The town boasts a variety of activities to enjoy during your stay. Kiteboarding is a popular sport while shore excursions to other parts of Mexico are ideal for exploring a variety of areas. If you want to relax on the beach, take advantage of a beach massage and unwind with a soothing treatment.

If you’re looking for a bargain, take your shopping skills to downtown Progreso where you’ll find a small market selling jewelry, clothing and souvenirs. If you’d prefer to hone your golfing knowledge, head to the course at Yucatan Country Club. The jungle setting and lakes make this a magical spot to stroll around as you swing.

The eateries in Progreso cater to many tastes. Elio al Mare is a beachfront restaurant boasting Italian delights. Choose a delicious seafood or pasta dish and sit and relax with a glass of wine or a cocktail. Alternatively, El Naranjo offers slow cooked pork and is a highlight for many diners.

Top travel tips for Progreso

If you’re traveling to Progreso, arrive via plane at Manuel Crescencio Rejon International Airport in Merida, Mexico. It takes an hour via car or taxi to travel to Progreso. Alternatively, you can take a bus to your rental.

For an air of tranquility alongside beach pursuits and sports, Progreso is a stunning vacation. Whether you want to experience the beautiful waterfront or head inland to take a day’s excursion, you’ll find something to keep you entertained.

Browse our great range of rental properties today and find the perfect place to stay in Progreso. It’s likely to be one of the best vacation decisions you’ve ever made!

Casa Mandri's
Great Place to Stay, would recommend to anyone and would stay again

5 minutes to everywhere you want to be. Right on the beach, Large home and plenty of beds/rooms. Home is probably 20 years old, so the plumb fixtures are not state of the art, but serviceable and had everything we needed. Caretaker on property very helpful. Wish I knew more Spanish, Translate app of phone helpful. WIFI worked well and my family was happy staying there.see more

Hugging Life Bed and Breakfast
Will return asap

We recently spent a week here. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The breakfasts are very good and the hospitality is above and beyond. You can view the beach from the upstairs terrace and practically walk anywhere. Jacque and Clinton really make you feel welcome and a part of the family. We'll definitely stay again.see more
2 bedroom condo with pool, steps to the beach!
Very authentic Mexican town in a great location!

I am late in this review, but it really was just like the others, very good service all along. We were in contact with Jason a number of times with questions about the area and he was always very fast and informative with his response. Carlos was there to meet us within 5 minutes of arrival without a confirmed time which was nice, he was very kind, helpful, and professional. The town in a well positioned kind of sleepy beach town, we walked from the condo down the beach into town regularly so we didn't need to worry about having too many maragritas. The grocery store is well equipped with cheap everything, I would bring my own coffee next time though, couldn't find the quality I like. Very friendly locals, good food and service (Los Pelicanos on the Malecon was our favourite, and a taco shop by the town square-forget the name now) The condo was just what we were expecting, well equipped, not luxurious but totally comfortable and all you need for a holiday rental. The grounds are really nice and the pool was always quiet since people are out touring. I met some other Canadian retirees who live there permanently but that's about it. We rented a car but really didn't need it, the bus to Merida is about 1.50, take 1/2 hour and has air conditioning. There is also a little bus that goes downtown if you don't want to walk the 10-15 minutes, cost about 20 cents. All in all, a really good vacation, the value of the condo was great. Progresso isn't for everybody, people who are into resort style enclaves probably would be better off to stick to Cancun, but if you want an authentic, scenic, sort of gritty, seaside town within an hour of everything I'd recommend. I would like to go back again and spent quite a bit of time talking to the Canadians retired there, and they love it!see more
Enjoy Our Dream! 2 Bedroom Condo Progreso Yucatan
Great condo, great location

My husband and I spent three months in this condo during winter 2015. We enjoyed every second of it: the proof? we already booked it for next winter! The pictures and description represent well the condo. The condo is very comfortable and has everything needed. It was clean upon our arrival and everything was in good shape and order. There is a good breeze coming from outside and the ceiling fan in every room makes a big difference. There are also AC unit in the two bedrooms and living room/dining room. The owners subscribed to their own internet connection which was very great: it worked very well. The condo complex is well maintained and very well located: approx. 5 KM from the "centro" : there are buses to go and come from ( less than 10 minutes) or great walk by the beach or the streets ( approx 45 minutes walk) . It is easy to go to Merida or to explore the Maya ruins. The caretaker, Carlos, was very efficient and attentive: we had two minors issues and they were solved in less than one hour. The others owners and renters were very welcoming and respectful. It was easy to connect with the owners and to organize our stay.see more

Great place, great people

We loved staying at Paul and Sue's apartment! It was clean and roomy and nicely decorated with lots of interesting art collected by Sue! Everything we needed was there! Being so close to shopping and the beach, yet having a quiet area to chill, was a bonus, and happy hour around the pool was fun. We learned lots from our most gracious hosts, and we were able to share many experiences in the Yucatan. Thanks Paul and Sue!see more
