Description

Three cottages, each with lake view and shared dock, on pristine, quiet Sand Pond, are perfect for a family gathering. There is privacy and community in one setting. The main cottage sleeps four in two bedrooms, has a full kitchen, bathroom, living room, and a screened-in porch; the two studio cottages have kitchenettes, bathrooms, and sleep two.

Sand Pond is one of the cleanest lakes in New Hampshire. Loons have been coming to the lake for decades. There is a state boat landing, with a lake host to monitor for invasive species, for easy access. While there are some motor boats, most lake residents and visitors prefer to kayak or canoe. Sailing is an option, but is often challenging.

Crane Cottage, the largest, sleeps 4 and has a full kitchen with dining table for four, bathroom with shower, living room, and screened porch with seating and dining table. There is a bedroom with a queen bed and a picture window looking onto the lake and a small room with two twin beds. There is a full-size refrigerator, full-size range, microwave, toaster, and coffeemaker. There are enough dishes, flatware, glasses, pots and pans to cook for and serve at least 8 people.

Mallard and Loon Cottages are studios, each with a double bed, table with chairs, bathroom with shower, and kitchenette. There is a small refrigerator, hot plate, microwave, and coffee maker in each. There are sufficient dishes and pots to cook for at least two people.

Each cottage has bed linens and towels.

There is a clothesline.

There is an assortment of books, board games, and puzzles.

There is good cell phone access. There is no WiFi at the cottages, but there is free WiFi at the South Acworth Village Store (10 mi.), which also has breakfast and lunch, a nice selection of beer, local crafts, and is special in that it was started in 1865 and is now community run.

There is a dock that extends over the water, perfect for jumping off. There is a ladder to climb up and down to the water as well as a small area to walk into the water. This site is delightful for swimmers, boaters, and fishers and those who just want to sit and enjoy the scenery. It is not ideal for very young children or for those who have difficulty walking up and down hill or on uneven ground.

There is a picnic table and a chiminea near the dock.

There is everything one needs for a vintage cottage stay.

Getting around

This is a rural area and a car is necessary. General stores and gas are about 10 miles away. Breakfast and sandwiches are available at the South Acworth Village Store, as well as Saturday night pizza during the summer, and there is free WiFi. We recommend guests get gas, groceries, and supplies before arriving to save driving a half-hour or more to get to a supermarket. Keene, Walpole, Newport, and Claremont all have supermarkets, pharmacies, gas, and restaurants and are a 30-40 minute drive from the cottages. .

The cottages are on a hillside. Access to the water is over rocks, by walking down a ladder, or jumping into the lake.

Claudia was very nice, and the cottages were cute.. Needless to say the lake is so clean and a great family spot. We are in the woods,so we were not surprised when we had an ant issue, that can happen… More
