Description from owner

Description

Owl Lodge is a converted garage that is at the entrance to a nineteenth century shooting lodge on the edge of a grouse moor in North Wales. Close to Llandegla Mountain Bike Centre and the famous Horse Shoe Pass it is the perfect retreat from the busy city life to repair one's soul. Listen to the owls at night, watch the buzzards circling overhead and the many different little birds in the trees, as you take in the views across the valley.

The property has a double bed room and a double sofa bed. The sitting room is open plan to the kitchen and dining area and has a wood burning stove. There is on demand hot water so a hot shower is available at any time of day or night. You can enjoy a barbecue in the garden with the Weber kettle barbecue.

Towels and linen are included.

Owl Lodge is a perfect location to explore North Wales with its many features and attractions. Take a day out to the mountains of Snowdonia or the sandy beaches of the North Wales coast. We are also close to to the city of Chester with its complete circuit of Roman walls and fascinating Tudor layout of shops known as The Rows.

The local towns of Ruthin, Llangollen and Mold also have a host of attractions.

In the 13th century Market town of Ruthin there is The Old County Gaol, built in 1775 as a model prison of that period, NantClwyd Y Dre, is grade I listed and the oldest building in Ruthin dating from 1314, Ruthin Castle, with its origins in 1277 is now a luxury hotel and the Ruthin Craft Centre, is now a centre for applied arts and hosts many excellent touring exhibitions.

Llangollen is the town where the world comes to Wales every year when they hold the International Eisteddfod, a festival of music, dance and song with competitors coming from all over the world. Other notable events in Llangollen is the Llangollen Fringe Festival and the Llangollen Hamper food festival. Thomas Telford brought the canal to Llangollen to feed water from the River Dee at the Horseshoe Falls to the Shropshire Union Canal. You can take a horse drawn boat trip along the canal. A walk up to Castell Dinas Brân, a castle built around 1260, is not for the faint hearted but anyone who makes it to the top will be rewarded with beautiful views across the town and beyond. You can take the steam train to Corwen where you will find the Indian Restaurant, Abul's Spice, which was listed as the best curry house in Wales in 2015. Sometimes, in the school holidays, that train is Thomas the Tank Engine. Plas Newydd, the home of two Irish women who in 1780 became known as the Ladies of Llangollen is also worth a visit.

Mold is the home of the regional arts centre Theatr Clwyd and has a diverse street market on a Wednesday and Saturday.

Getting around

There is very little public transport in the area. The nearest railway station is about 9 miles away in Wrexham. The nearest bus stop is one and a half miles away at the end of the lane. The nearest airport is Liverpool or Manchester (about the same distance) We have had guests arrive by taxi from Wrexham having caught the train up from London but if you do this don’t forget to bring supplies as the nearest shop is three miles away and the pub is two miles.

Interaction with guest

We are usually around in the main house but are always available on the phone or text to help with any queries you may have but generally we will leave you alone to enjoy the peace and quiet of the lodge and the area.
