Description from owner

Description

Ronaldsay is a beautifully refurbished log cabin sitting high in the private Seaview Grazings estate, Strontian, with stunning views down Loch Sunart. The area around Strontian is an outdoors-lovers paradise, with beautiful beaches and numerous walks. The cabin sits on a private site, with no other cabins overlooking it. The nearest pub and shop are a 5 min walk, with the village centre being another 5 min along the road.

Ronaldsay features extensive living space, with two separate sitting areas each with WiFi and large flat-screen TVs. Each TV has both Freesat installed and internet capability for all standard catch-up services (BBC iPlayer etc). The main lounge has a wood burning stove with beautiful views over Loch Sunart to the mountains, while to the rear there is an open-plan kitchen/dining/living area. The rear room also has a fantastic view south through large french doors over the loch and mountains.

There are three bedrooms with the main bedroom (double bed) having views down the length of the loch. The second bedroom has a king-size bed, again with superb views to the south, and the smallest bedroom has a single bed.

The kitchen is well equipped, having a dishwasher and large fridge/freezer. There is also a separate utility room in the rear extension, keeping the noise well away from the living areas. Another convenience is the two toilets, one in the main cabin (with shower) and the second in the extension. Hot water is provided through a thermal store, giving mains-pressure showers.

There are two decks, one each at the front and the rear.

The cabin has been refurbished to a high standard, both internally and externally. It has been fully insulated and re-clad externally, making it very cosy in the winter. It has also been re-roofed, again with good insulation levels, and two large roof windows have been installed, filling the rooms with plenty of natural light.

NOTE: Ronaldsay sits on an elevated site on a fairly steep hill. This means that there are risks around the garden for small children, who would have to be kept closely supervised.

“Lovely Highland Lodge with stunning views”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2021

Beautifully and lovingly restored and extended lodge with views across Loch Sunart. It is well equipped, cosy and comfortable. The two living areas give it a spacious feel and everything is finished to a very high standard. Strontian is an ideal base to explore the Ardnamurchan peninsula and there are good facilities in the village. We can't wait to stay again.

“Stunning, peaceful, roomy, amazing location”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2021

Family of 4 (2 teenagers) and wanted a spacious, self catering lodge with a 'middle of nowhere' feel with great views to appreciate stunning local scenery, peace and quiet, decent kitchen to make self catering a doddle, 3 bedrooms and, of course, fast Wi-Fi. This hit all this buttons and more. Genuinely could not fault it, had plenty for us and more - loved it. Hotel/pub with restaurant 0.25 mile walk into Strontian, same further on again for a small shop but one of those that has everything you could possibly need. Decent walks in area, nothing too strenuous and views galore. Harry Potter viaduct is around an hour away, Fort William 45 mins depending on ferry, with seriously good butcher and fishmonger on Blar Mohr estate as well as supermarkets in the town. Ben Nevis around 1 hour away, Glencoe area about the same. Owner was brilliant - accurate info dispensed speedily. Highly recommend

Response from the owner Hi John - I have to say your comments are rather unfair and give a false impression of Ronaldsay's location and general surroundings. Firstly, you should have made clear that the "bombsite" you refer to is at least 300m from Ronaldsay, cannot be seen from the cabin and has absolutely no effect on it's amenity. This is a plot where a house is being built at the roadside as you enter the Seaview Grazings site. Secondly, although the office isn't in great condition, the drainage tools etc that were there while the drains were being worked on have now been moved. The office itself is barely visible from Ronaldsay and again I would argue has absolutely no effect on it's amenity.

“Excellent location, very well equipped warm and clean and tidy.”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2017

Situated about 10 minutes walk to the centre of the village and 6 minutes to a local shop with the village pub just a further couple of minutes further away . Access is up a steep drive with 2 car park spaces. Views from the cabin over Loch Sunart excellent. Very well eqiupped with all facilities . A small mirror in the second toilet above the wash basin would be handy . The televisions and hi fi equipment excellent but somewhat complicated to operate with too many remote controls . Overall very comfortable and would come back again.
