Loch Ness Hideaways:- Rowan Cottage

Loch Ness Region log cabin

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“A relaxed escape to the country” If you have never been to Loch Ness and the surrounding areas, Alex & Janet's little hideaway is absolutely perfect as a base. No detail was overlooked: directions, Welcome pack of biscuits & chocolates which our kids loved, Separated packs of information with walks and local interests, even dog treats they understand hospitality to the letter. A home from home you only need to bring some food or pop to Tesco/Asda which was a reasonable 20miles ish at Inverness. The location was perfect we were within reach of Inverness, Fort agustus and the Fall of Foyers, which was our primary visit, and on a clear night which we were lucky to have one the night sky is something to see. If you are a family looking for walks we found that the forestry commission walks were best as they were marked out by difficulty and colour coded posts throughout the chosen walk (avoids embarrassing moments of getting lost). For us it was a break to escape the typical 'busy' life and a chance to reconnect with each other as a family with some board games (take some) and country air.

“Fantastic accomodation in a beautiful location” The owners were extremely helpful in organising our weekend break. Gruinyards far exceeded our expectations, everything from the bottle of wine down to the candles in the bathroom were a lovely touch. The location was amazing and the website does not do justice to the view over the loch.

Hazelgrove Cottage, Loch Ness, Scottish Highlands

Foyers log cabin

3 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Excellent cottage, home from home with everything you could wish for and more.” Hazelgrove cottage was ideal for our pre christmas break away. The setting was beautiful overlooking Loch Ness, so nice to wake up to on a morning. Hazelgrove is in a very peaceful location but with excellent ammenitites and not far from Iverness and many other places of interest. It was great to find a cottage that accomodated both of our dogs with the bonus of a large secure garden and great walks nearby. Hazelgrove really was a home from home with personal touches provided such as a welcome pack on our arrival containing some essential goodies to start our holiday off well, I would definately recommend Hazelgrove to friends and family.

Why Loch Ness?

This large, deep freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands is perhaps best known for sightings of the ‘Loch Ness Monster’. Whether you’re here to hunt for 'Nessie' or just enjoy the great outdoors, our vacation rentals in Loch Ness are the perfect choice for your break.

About Loch Ness

Loch Ness is the second-largest Scottish loch by surface area, but the largest by volume, reaching a depth of 755 ft. Since the first photograph of the Loch Ness Monster emerged in the 1930s, there have been over 1,000 eye-witness accounts and sightings. But there’s more to the area than legends; you’ll find several pretty towns and villages nearby, as well as ancient castles and stunning landscapes.

What to Do

Exploring the area on foot or by car will bring you to pretty villages such as Dores, Foyer and Drumnadrochit, and Loch Ness is just a short drive to Inverness for shops, bars and restaurants.

The best way to see Loch Ness is by boat, and there are cruises departing regularly from the shores of the loch. For the best views, take a trip at sunset to see the sun setting over the water.

Hazelgrove Cottage, Loch Ness, Scottish Highlands
Highly recommend this holiday cottage

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hazelgrove and would recommend this cottage for any time of the year. It is a really comfortable place for a restful or active holiday. The cottage is well kitted out, with lovely furniture, really comfortable beds and a great kitchen and utility room with everything you will need. The gardens are lovely and it is grand to sit out the back on a sunny morning, or sit on the front verandah sipping wine in the evening! We saw deer, red squirrels, and an otter in the loch -or was it Nessie?! Highly recommend a boat trip on Loch Ness, a visit to the Black Isle to see the dolphins and, if you are up to it, climbing Ben Nevis- one of the highlights of our holiday.see more
Loch Ness Hideaways:- Rowan Cottage
A perfect getaway from our crazy world

This was our second visit to Rowan Cottage and even more deeply enjoyable than our previous visit in 2011. It is a marvellous location for chilling out and exploring south Loch Ness-side. It has everything we need for a self-catering holiday - good facilities for cooking, for washing and drying, and for watching our Dvds - but also a sense of remoteness so we can get away from the usual rat-race of urban living. There is an excellent village shop and cafe a couple of miles away in Foyers, and a large range of facilities (supermarkets, petrol station, restaurants) in Fort augustus, 16 miles to the south (but a very pleasant 16 miles as the usually quiet road winds its way through and over hills south of Loch Ness). Foyers and Fort augustus are also great places to view the Loch. The old Foyers Pier is accessible by road and gives good views of the middle part of the Loch and especially Foyers Bay, where boats travelling along the Loch often anchor for a while. Fort augustus is even better with Caledonian Canal providing both a small and well-used harbour, and a grand spectacle as boats travelling beyond Loch Ness travel up and down the staircase of locks that is the village centre. This time we were blessed with warm sunny weather - indeed at times too hot. But that weather added to the sense of relaxation in that we did not have to worry about heating or warm clothes, and could enjoy the Cottage's wonderful veranda. This has an indoor and outdoor section so you can choose where best suits you to sit at any time - and then read or sleep or just watch the marvellous view across the woods to the mountains north of the Loch. The great weather meant that we could sit on the veranda and watch the sunset (it faces west) whilst drinking something suitably Scottish. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Rowan Cottage and are already thinking on opportunities to visit again. We can strongly recommend it as place to escape and relax.see more
