Description from owner

Description

Come and relax in a beautiful traditional detached crofter's cottage in the picturesque village of Torrin on the Isle of Skye. A fabulous base from which you can easily enjoy all the wonders of Skye.

Torrin is a small village (7 miles from Broadford, Skye's second largest town) on the shores of Loch Slappin, close to a gorgeous secluded beach and nestled between the Red Cuillin and the mighty Bla Bhienn (pronounced Blaven, it means blue mountain). Bla Bhienn is our favourite mountain and arguably the finest Munro in Scotland!

The cottage has been in the family for over 150 years, we have just completed a big upgrade. It is now rewired, re-plumbed with all new carpets and decoration in time for your visit! It's wonderfully homely and comfortable and very very peaceful.

The property has been extended over the years comprising on the ground floor a cosy L-shaped living room with log/coal burning stove. An initial supply of coal and kindling will be provided. There's also a TV, DVD player, books, maps and games. There is a very well equipped kitchen with fridge/freezer, electric cooker, microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer. There's a separate dining room, a twin bedroom and a WC with wash basin all on the ground floor. Upstairs is a double bedroom, a further twin bedroom and bathroom with electric shower, WC and wash basin. Downstairs also has a fabulous sun porch overlooking the garden - a great place to relax after a day's exploring! The cottage is double glazed throughout and has an electrical heating system as well as the log burning stove in the living room.

As a traditional cottage, the stairs are rather steep and narrow so care should be taken at all times.

There is large cultivated mature garden with further grounds surrounding the house.

The cottage is situated up a lane off the road. There's free parking with room for two cars in the drive on our property.

The cottage is 7 miles from Broadford, lovely little town with a beautiful bay and views to the mainland. It has a good variety of shops, artisan and craft outlets and a really excellent Co-Op supermarket, 24 hour garage and chemist, doctor, dentist etc. There are several restaurants and cafes etc etc. And there are two ATM cash machines, a Post Office and a mobile bank.

“The perfect location”

This cosy cottage is well-equipped and brilliantly located. We took full advantage of all that Skye has to offer: swimming several times at the lovely local beach, walking up the glens and hills - one… More

“Lovely skye”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2020

We had a lovely stay on beautiful Skye. The cottage was really well equipped with everything a family of four needed. The view from the hill through the back garden gate of the cullins was fantastic. The beach and blue shed cafe( open Thursday -sun) were only 10 mins walk. Remember to bring your midges spray!! And give plenty of time to travel. The sheep love to take over the roads, love them . We will return one day.

“Fantastic base to explore Skye”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2018

The Skye cottage was beautifully set up, with everything we needed ( and more). Inside it was comfortable, lovely warm fire, and the owners had thoughtfully provided a range of basics in the well-equipped kitchen which was much appreciated. It’s in a lovely part of Skye, with easy access to nearby shops ( if you have a car, which you really need to see all Skye has to offer). There are great walks directly from the house, and nearby Broadford also has great restaurants. Highly recommended.

“Perfect cottage”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2017

The cottage was just lovely, and wanted for nothing. It was warm in all senses of the word, comfortable, beautifully clean and tidy, very well equipped, easy, a great size for all of us, and with a lovely friendly atmosphere. Our host Caroline was also very friendly and helpful which made us feel very welcome. As did the welcome pack with coffee, tea, biscuits etc. We found the location to be just right too. Close enough to Broadford to get to the supermarket and (very good) fish and chip shop, but just far enough away to feel we were were "away". We loved the beach just 10 minutes walk from the cottage - had a lovely swim off silvery sands on our last evening. I'd be very happy to come back again and see more of Skye. Thank you.
