Description from owner

Description

Cuillin View Ord.

Our holiday house is a small cottage (approximately 100sq meters floor space) set about 200 meters from the sea.

The house has magnificent views of the Cuillin Ridge, the islands of Rum and Canna and Loch Eishort.

The house has a large enclosed garden and full length exterior deck with outside seating and dining area.

The interior has;

A large open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area. This room runs along the whole length of the house and there is a large mezzanine sitting/ children's play area.

One large bathroom.

3 bedrooms; a downstairs double ( king bed), a downstairs twin, and upstairs twin (small, cosy).

A large utility room with automatic washing machine, tumble dryer and a second fridge.

A front entry porch for storing outdoor coats and boots.

The house is wonderfully cosy. We have electric storage heating and a log burning stove. Wood is supplied free of charge.

The house is family friendly. We have available in the cottage; a (travel) cot, high chair, stair gate and a guard for the log burner.

The house has 10 mb broadband.

The location is too remote for a normal TV signal but we can access; on demand TV such as iPlayer, the main television channels through the free Sky satellite channels. There are many DVDs, books and maps.

The house is on the fringe of mobile phone networks. This is an improving situation with the Scottish Government trying to improve rural access to mobile networks. In late 2023, an EE network signal was now working inside the house but other network s were not available. However using our broadband most mobiles can make calls through WiFi. There is also a landline with a payphone which allows guests to receive incoming calls.

The hamlet of Ord is breathtakingly beautiful and secluded: a few houses, four miles from a two way road and seven from the nearest pub and shop. Just a beautiful safe shore for boating and swimming with abundant wildlife and one of the best views in the UK. From our holiday house you can see over Loch Eishort to both the Cuillin of Skye and the Cuillin of Rum, Scotland's most famous and rugged mountains- a truly wonderful view, both summer and winter.

Ord is in the south of the Isle of Skye, which is arguably Scotland's most beautiful Island. Skye is on the north west coast of Scotland, part of the group of islands called the Inner Hebrides. The other Hebrides include Barra, Uist, Harris and Lewis all of which can be accessed by ferry.

Skye is famous for its variety of beautiful scenery both mountain and coastal. It has fabulous walking. It is also steeped in Scottish history e.g. Dunvegan Castle, the Clan Donald Centre and the grave of Flora MacDonald who rowed the defeated Bonnie Prince Charlie "over the sea to Skye". It also has great food and drink; famous restaurants such as the Three Chimneys and the Kinloch Lodge, home to the classic malt whisky Talisker and to the Skye Brewery.

Ord is near Armadale and Isle Ornsay on the Sleat peninsula in the area known as the garden of Skye. This area also houses Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic college, internationally recognised as a National Centre for Gaelic language and culture. Ord is about 15 miles from Broadford and 42 miles from Portree.

We allow one dog, sometimes two, but prefer to discuss specifics of pets with our guests individually.

We have a three day minimum but we are prepared to discuss shorter rental periods particularly if there is either a period with only a one or two day block or if booking within two months of arrival date. Email me.

Getting around

Skye is amazing and there is much too much to describe. There are ferries which allow you to visit other parts of Scotland and Islands. There are many outdoor activities. There is scenery and history. There are many restaurants. But there is not much land based public transport so you need a car or (if you are very keen and fit and have a bike with good low gears) you can cycle. Just Google "Skye"

Response from the owner Thank you very much for your kind review and hope you get back here sometime. Yes the 4 mile drive to Ord is very picturesque and very single track. As well as the sheep and cattle ( just beep your horn and be patient) there are almost always deer at twilight in the first mile. Go slow and look at the open area they are well camouflaged.

Response from the owner Thanks for your positive review. Regarding the "dark sky at night" that is so true, living in an urban setting you forget (or never knew) what a dark sky is like. In the winter on a clear cold night the stars are so bright and clear and if you wait and let your eyes adapt you can see the milky way shooting stars, comets not to mention the Northern Lights.
