Description from owner

Description

Rose Cottage has a south facing terraced front garden with fantastic views across Swaledale. Entry to the cottage is via a useful porch, designed to accommodate muddy boots and/or for drying off the beloved pet! The kitchen diner is homely and furnished in farmhouse style with a traditional Yorkshire flagged stone floor . A cosy beamed sitting room provides a relaxing place to "get away from it all" and relax. There is a utility room which provides space for storing outdoor equipment such as climbing or cycling gear. The stairs lead to a newly refurbished shower room and then upwards on to a separate cloakroom with WC and wash basin. The two double bedrooms are at the front of the house and both provide beautiful views across the dale to the opposing hills. Situated in a lovely quiet and friendly village Rose Cottage is ideally placed for those wishing to walk the many footpaths, cycle the quiet lane or simply relax and watch the world go by.

“Not the best cottage to stay in during the winter months”

Reviewed 2 Jan 2023

On arriving following a very rainy and cold journey we were disappointed there was no welcome pack not even a bottle of wine to welcome us. The first time this has ever happened on any of our winter stays at cottages over the years The cottage felt very cold when we entered. The heating was on but on a low thermostat setting. Even the radiators didn’t let off hardly any heat even after the thermostat was turned up We knew the fire was an electric one but even after putting that on it never really felt warm in the cottage even when the heating was turned up and the Aga didn’t really warm us up either. Saying that the cottage is in a beautiful place and near to lots of our fave places like Richmond and Reeth and Hawes. Marrick is a lovely little hamlet. I am sure in the summer months the cottage is warmer and it must be lovely to sit in the garden looking out at the gorgeous view but as for a cottage to stay in over the cold winter months it’s not really a warm cottage like some we have stayed in so take thick onesies to sleep in. We love our winter breaks and have never had a problem before with being so cold in a cottage Good points about the cottage are it has a good wifi and tv. Beautiful views and well stocked with everything you need for cooking cleaning etc . But please provide a welcome pack it really does mean a lot to the people staying especially after a cold winters drive in the rain.

“great spot”

Reviewed 7 Nov 2020

this was a gorgeous spot for a week off with some amazing views without being far from things. the view from the kitchen window was gorgeous early morning as the sun glowed orange over the hill, which was enhanced by the cosiness from the warmth from the range. we wished we had planned to use the range more and would recommend putting one pot meals on all day. walking was good from the door, but limited if you have a dog due to farm animals and stiles, so a quick drive into reeth provided easier paths. the reason for the low rating is due to the condition of the cottage - bedding and towels were clean, and it had a cosy comfortable feel, but there was a lot of dust and insects, disorganized cupboards in the kitchen with no extra space, the shower room towel rail was not working, and we could not work out how to operate the heating.

Response from the owner It is regrettable that despite a good deal of e-mail and telephone correspondence over the first two days of this guests stay due to the fact that the previous guests, against all advice and house rules had turned off the oil fired range cooker which then needed to be safely relit by a plumber, this guest could not have let his concerns known to me but chose to tell me instead that all was great and that they were enjoying their holiday.
