Description
Steps from the warm sands and magnificent Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica. 4 bedrooms/2 bath.
On the first floor...The Master Bedroom is bright and airy. French doors open onto a large wooden deck and over looks the garden as well as Ocean.
The room has a full entertainment system, TV, Wireless, as well as ceiling fan and walk-in closet.
Second Bedroom has a full size bed and Kids-size bunk beds but can convert to Writer's Studio (a few of our guests have written books here).
Open living and dining area accommodates large families or cozy small ones. Warm yourselves by the fireplace....
The 2nd story has 2 bedrooms - one room with King size bed and limited view of ocean and the other with a queen size bed and a set of twin bunk beds. there is also a smaller den (with TV) that can convert to a sleeping quarter making 5 bed rooms total. There is a min-kitchen upstairs as well so the units can be separated to form two distinct apts.
Its really great for large families or multiple families vacationing together.
There is a small apartment on the property that is occupied by a young couple - they are very calm, quiet. You probably won't even see them during your stay as they have a complete other unit and entrance. They have access to the yard but are rarely there.
Air Quality or Allergies: We are just off the Beach. The wind off the ocean keeps the air quality incredibly clean. The ocean emits enormous amounts of Fresh Oxygen. We have kept our house free of Mold as well.
A short walk gets you to wonderful 'mom n' pop' restaurants, boutique shopping, wine bars, ice cream, panini sandwiches, Health Food Store, coffee shops. Eclectic Venice Beach is also a walk away with its craft booths, incense vendors, painters and colorful street performers. Also very close to trendy '3rd St Promenade' with retail chain stores (Abercrombie and Fitch, The Gap, etc) and Movie Theaters, Jazz clubs, Bars, Discos, etc. Disneyland, Magic Mountain, Universal Studios, Hollywood are a car ride away but not close enough to feel like you're caught in a tourist trap.
This is an old turn-of-the-century home. It's not 'perfect' - that means if your kids happen to make a crayon drawing on a wall - we're not worried, just clean up. The house is over 100 years old so there is some natural wear and tear. But we did a complete renovation (inside and out) when we purchased in 2000. The house is completely kid safe and protected. Street parking only with preferential parking pass.
Lastly, this is not a loud party house. No problem if you have a great time, bbq and drink outside, of course....after all, its your vacation, but its more of a family neighborhood.

“Don't Rent This House”

Response from the owner Reader: This guest was rude, dishonest and extremely coarse. Its important to view our other reviews and note the polar opposite opinions. This guest's problems started when I got reports of loud and late partying. So much so the police were called. We are not a party house as stated in the ad description. We are located in a wonderful eclectic neighborhood akin to NY's West Village or San Francisco's Haight Ashbury. The guest brought three large dogs after claiming to only have "two small dogs". The guests left dog droppings all over the front and back yards and the house a complete mess. We don't pay our hard-working cleaning crew to pick up after other people's dogs. To address his claims: Yes this is an old house. A fully restored turn-of-the-century wonderful, old home officially registered with the City of Santa Monica's Historic register. Yes, some of our lights hang off the wall because they are mounted on a fixture. The shades were left ripped out of there mounts because they were yanked out. We found them discarded on the floor. Both master bedrooms have closets, the other rooms have ample room dressers. Yes, there is "only one' thermostat in order to maintain a single constant temperature throughout. This technology may have been too sophisticated for them. In the review they wrote "the hear din't really get upstairs". I think they meant The heat didn't get upstairs. This is the first time we've had this complaint. Our bedding is thoroughly sanitized (feature on our GE oversize front loading washer and dryer) I'm not sure what he meant by our shower being difficult. Maybe it talked back to him? We are not a hotel and aren't expected to supply shower soap, shampoo or conditioner. We tried it in the past but found people prefer to bring their own products relative to their own needs and likes. We supply fresh clean linens, 2 cabinets full of towels and one cabinet of beach towels. Rest assured there is plenty of Costco brand toilet paper. Guest are provided with 2 sets of keys that work very well. Never had a complaint. Yes, parking is difficult. Aside from the TWO preferential guest parking passes, there is a guest spot behind the house. Its a desirable area of Santa Monica (like NY and SF locations listed above) but there is a decent overturn of parking spots. We rarely have a problem, Our "location location" is great. He got that one correct. We have a guest book full of 12 years of wonderful, great guest comments with several return visits. Our home may not be right for everyone and I'm sorry these people had a bed experience. The feeling is mutual. I encourage enquirers to ask any questions to clear up any concerns you may have prior to renting. We love this house and take a lot of pride in it as we take pride in making sure our guests have a wonderful stay.
