Description from owner

Description

This is a warm (although larger than you would expect!) stone quarryman's cottage in the village of Trefor on the Llyn Peninsula. Set in a row of terraced cottages half a mile from the beach, the cottage has the added benefit of a babbling stream with a terraced area at the bottom of the front garden- lovely to listen to while enjoying a quiet drink. The long front garden also has a central 'sun trap' terrace. Although traditional, the cottage also has a 'modern feel' and it is the perfect location for couples or families wanting to enjoy local walks and wildlife or for those who just want to get away from it all.

The cottage, which has been recently decorated and has an improved kitchen, benefits from central heating (although not always necessary with the log burner!) as well as mod cons including a dishwasher, washing/machine dryer, fridge freezer, microwave, fibre wifi, TV with DVD as well as a second toilet in addition to the modern large family bathroom with a 'double' shower including a large powerful 'drench' head. Two sofas surround the log burner and the open plan living area has a family dining table. There is also a second toilet and handbasin next to the bathroom.

The beds in the bedrooms have been configured to provide maximum flexibility for families or couples. The front bedroom has a good quality zip and link bed; so it can either be a superking or two singles. The second bedroom has two single beds but these can also be linked to create a king size double.

The cottage also has its own private parking space with steps down to the sunny back yard.

There is a restaurant and bar (Berts kitchen garden) within 1/4 mile of the cottage on back road to the beach.

Trefor is a traditional quarrying village which nestles in the shadow of Tre'r Ceiri which is one of the best preserved Iron Age hillforts in the UK. Trefor has a small harbour and a beach with plenty of parking. Surfing and diving is possible here. There is a small shop and a Post Office in the village. There are lots of walks starting from your cottage doorstep.

Trefor is situated on the north coast of the Llyn Peninsula, between Caernarfon and the market town of Pwllheli just off the main A499 road. It is just 15 minutes drive from Pwllheli, 20 minutes from Caernarfon and less than half an hour from Abersoch.

It is ideally placed for exploring Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula with plenty of walking on its doorstep. Climb up to the old quarry on Yr Eifl for panoramic views towards Anglesey. Or follow the coastal path which continues around the Peninsula. The local village of Clynnog Fawr has an impressive church St.Beuno which was used by pilgrims travelling to Bardsey Island.

One well-behaved dog welcome -please enquire (We ask that they do not sleep on the sofas or beds). Fibre WIFI is available.

“A peaceful, relaxing oasis on the doorstep of beautiful Snowdonia!”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2021

"Did you really book for three weeks?" asked my teenage sons as we drove into Trefor. But at the end of that time, none of us was ready to leave! Yr Encil is a lovely cottage with lots of thoughtful personal touches. Though the cosy house is very comfortable and well-equipped, the beautiful garden is where we spent most of our time when home. Trefor itself has a well-stocked local shop and incredibly scenic local walks. When you do venture further, the attractions of Snowdonia are within easy driving distance, too many to mention. Thank you for a fascinating, restful and memorable holiday!

“Nice well kitted cottage.”

Lovely cottage in a nice location but nowhere to eat or drink nearby. Home cooking and a night in after a days walking.......excellent..............a night out with a meal and a few drinks........not without a nominated driver.

Response from the owner Thank you for the positive review regarding the cottage. Yes it is unfortunate that in common with many villages in the area there is currently not a pub or full time restaurant in the village. However Berts kitchen a 5 minute walk from the cottage has just opened although only on a Saturday. Whilst it might not suit everyone the relatively frequent bus service from the village to Pwlhelli (15 mins) and Caernarfon (25 mins) runs into the evening. Thanks again for your comments and hopefully we can welcome you back soon..

“Lovely comfortable cottage”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2019

Yr Encil was a lovely comfortable cottage with everything you needed inside. The garden with a stream running at the bottom of it was a lovely place to sit & listen to the running water. An ideal place to get away from the hustle & bustle of life. The neighbours were nice & friendly. Would go back again.

Response from the owner Hi Katharine many thanks for your review and delighted you enjoyed your holiday and found the cottage cosy and well equipped and are recommending it to others. For those who may look at your review I just wanted to put some of the comments about the village into perspective. The village does have, like many towns and villages, some empty houses in need of renovation. These houses are all owned, and over the last year we have seen many be updated and attract new visitors to the village, so hopefully the few remaining ones will be updated soon. They certainly don't detract from our property and are not in the same street. It is a true welsh 'working village', some its charm comes from the quarry up on the hill that still employs people from the village today; interestingly I believe only one of two places in the world that makes stones used in curling stones for the Canadian curling team! However, it is situated out of view of the cottage and not noisy and nor does the bus depot detract from the peacefulness and attractiveness as it is a relatively small site and buses park there when not in use.

“Yr Encil”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2018

We’ve had a great time exploring wales. Yr Encil is an extremely clean, cosy and well equipped cottage. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need for family meal time. Plenty of places to visit even after 2 weeks we ran out of time! So much to see and do. Lots of National Trust beach parking which saves £’s if you’re members. Porthor beach is great calm sea for swimming and a superb beach cafe. We enjoyed coastal walks and riding bikes along the Mawddach trail. We would love to return again in the future thanks Esther x
