“Beautiful Surprise” After travelling up from Southampton, Hampshire, we arrived at 10.15pm on a wet November evening, weariness faded upon opening the door to Englewood, as reality was better than Sykes description. The kitchen is well equipped and a dinner party would be easy as there is plenty of cutlery crockery and serving dishes. The next morning we woke to the beautiful view from both back and front bedrooms, and the garden is delightful with a bubbling stream on the other side of the garden. Misty our dog loved it, would have loved to have a swim even more, but not suitable for that as stream flows over rocks. The open fire in the lounge made evenings so warm and cosy and the furniture is very comfortable and easily seats 6. Lots of literature gave us ideas for places to visit. The bed was the best we'd ever staying in, I have chronic back problems and dread new beds, I had perfect nights sleep from day one thank you. We loved the paintings by the owner around the cottage, wanted to sneak a couple home with us! Thank you we will be back.

“Highly recommended” Our stay in this cottage was absolutely perfect in every way. The cottage itself is beautiful and the owner was extremely welcoming and friendly. It is in a glorious location, convenient to many places of interest. We booked straight away for next year, we liked it so much!

“Recreation, pure nature and millions of sheeps.” A nice and cosy cottage. Welcome-eggs. The cottage is small but enough for 2 adults. It is not easy to find if you are not from Great Britain. We missed the small road two times. But when we reached the "goal" it was, for us, typical English, nice and kind. We had a wonderful week with good weather and not so good weather. And I had never seen so much sheeps in my live.

“Tranquil pleasant cottage in picturesque surroundings.” Comfortable accommodation in quiet backwater.Plenty of walks in the fells and around the nearby reservoirs, and plenty of attractions in the district.Even the weather[including rain and snow] didn't detract from the pleasant holiday.

“Stunningly secluded, brilliant cottage” Where do I start? This was my second visit in six months and it felt like "coming home". Mrs. Scott (the owner) and her daughter keep their well-appointed cottage in excellent condition there's even a small collection of dvd's and board games should the weather turn nasty; I was there when the a1 was flooded for three days. Their welcome was as warm and friendly as before (the first time I was there I was even able to borrow a hairdryer as I'd forgotten mine!). The cottage is exactly as it's described, secluded. I went there to write in peace and found precisely that. The landlord and landlady at the local pub are great and the food is excellent - try the cheese platter - although it's a tad more than a five minute walk from Shepherd's Cottage. If you're into walking then this is the place to be; the sorrounding countryside is magnificent. What didn't I like? Having to leave.

“beautiful cottage , well appointed , friendly owner” A lovely friendly welcome made by the owner. Lots of advice given regarding the beautiful walks from the cottage . Furnishings in the cottage were beautiful , straight out of the Country Living magazine. Large Kitchen , well equipped with everything for a lovely holday . We didn't need the car once we got there as the village shops catered for everything we needed. The cottage was in such a good location for High Force & Low Force Waterfalls . A splendid walk from the doorstep . Off road parking . We could not have asked for anything more .

Charming Grade 2 listed stone built property centrally located in Stanhope
A Great Week

What a loverly place, we had not visited County Durham before, what a loverly county. The scenery rivals Yorkshite, the dales and Devon. As for Stanhope Cottage, this is beautifully fitted out and decorated, all the facilities were of an excellent standard. Within 2 minutes to the town centre and just 30 seconds to the riverside which provides an excellent substitute for the lack of garden at the cottage. We had brilliant weather all week so it was great relaxing wqith our glass of wine by the riverside each evening. Stanhope is an excellent base for exploring countryside and city or Beamish living museum and Bowes museum. We can highly recommend a stay here.see more
