Description from owner

Description

We are very pleased to announce that Heol Giedd was awarded Certificates of Excellence for 2018 and 2019 by Trip Advisor, thanks to the lovely reviews we received from our guests.. Although this 150 year old cottage was awarded 4 stars to sleep three people, extra sleeping is available by the use of a sofa bed in the sitting room. This would need to be folded back after use to enable the sitting room to be used. There is also a small fold out bed in the second bedroom that would accommodate a child. Bedding is provided to cover all sleeping arrangements. The bathroom is on the ground floor. The property was totally renovated a few years ago and has been owned by the same family for at least 150 years. Heol Giedd is a stone built cottage on the edge of busy village of Ystradgynlais, a short distance away from Brecon National Park, with the River Tawe meandering outside the front door. The centrally heated property , is fully equipped with washing machine, dryer, full size cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, bedlinen, towels, cutlery , china, kitchen utensils to facilitate five people if required. It is ideally situated for walking the Brecon Beacons, exploring the caves or taking in the beautiful beaches of the Gower Peninsula. The village of Ystradgynlais has all you might need for a self catering holiday and came first in Wales in Bloom 2018 and 2019 and was given an award in Britain in Bloom 2019. Local shops, pubs and eateries are within walking distance, and can provide almost everything you might require including film showings, etc., in the Welfare Hall (look out for "What's on at the Welfare Hall" advertising banners) but larger supermarkets are a short drive away. Neighbouring villages also provide a selection of pubs and restaurants. There is a small private garden, ideal if the weather is good for sitting in the sun with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.

Getting around

There is a fairly regular bus service during the day into Swansea, Brecon, Ammanford, Neath, etc. There is a bus stop not far from the cottage, about 200 yards along the road, but better, more frequent services can be caught at the Bus Station near the Welfare Hall. Walk up to the cross roads in the village and turn left into Brecon Road. Bus Station is on lef.

Interaction with guest

We, the owners, do not live near the property, but are always in contact if there is a problem and someone nearby will endeavour to sort. Keys will probably be sent to you a week or so before your stay by recorded delivery, or if this is not convenient for you someone will be at the cottage to meet and greet you. Lots of things to do in the area. Good walking country - the cottage is situated very near to the Brecon National Park with its caves, waterfalls, etc. In the opposite direction is the town of Swansea and the lovely beaches of the Gower Peninusula. Many information leaflets under the coffee table in the cottage.

“Fantastic stay at Heol Giedd”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2022

We had an amazing time in Ystradgynlais. The cottage was lovely & spotlessly clean. It was home from home & equipped with everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable we had great nights sleep. The street was very quiet & definitely no trouble parking our car. The local shops & pub is just a few minutes walk away. The cottage was perfectly placed for all the places we visited………The waterfalls, The caves, Swansea, Mumbles, Craig-Y-Nos castle country park, Caswell bay ( stunning beach ) & cliff walk. Everything was 20 - 30 minutes drive & Caswell Bay was 45 minutes. It’s very dog friendly & we took our dog everywhere we visited. We would highly recommend 20 Heol Giedd. The owners John & Wendy were so helpful with any questions we had & swiftly replied to all of our messages.

“Fantastic, home from home cottage.”

Reviewed 12 Apr 2022

A really lovely little cottage opposite the river. It has everything you could possibly need. I know Ystradgynlais well and this was a lovely base for me. Comfy beds, central heating, freeview tv, what more could you want. Close to Brecon, National Showcaves, horse riding and some breathtaking views. Only a half hour drive to the closest beaches, but not much further to the stunning Gower Peninsula and the secluded bays you can find there. Wendy is contactable at all times for any queries. She even messaged to wish me a good journey. I will definitely stay again. The only downside, is that it is so far away from me as I live in Norfolk, otherwise I would be there every month.
