It's difficult to criticize this property or our stay here. We brought some friends from Indiana so they could really soak in the mountain air and scenery with some privacy. That is exactly what they got.
The view from this particular property may be unrivaled. My wife and I jogged around the grounds but only found a handful of houses with such a comprehensive view of the range. Further, the two fireplaces and bedrooms made the house perfect for a two-couple visit. The fireplaces came complete with starters, matches, plenty of firewood, and newspapers, and the bedrooms each had access to the deck with a marvelous view.
Best of all, the properties are 10 minutes from either downtown Estes Park or Rocky Mountain National Park. So, you waste no time traveling to local attractions.
We'll be back.

Left on 01/29/2013 for a stay in January 2013
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in Jan 2013. In short, we really enjoyed our stay. The house was very clean, and in great shape. The hot tub and wood-burning fireplace (complete with plenty of firewood) were exactly what we needed to have a perfect romantic getaway. Plus, the views are really great. The house is about 10 min drive from the main drag in Estes Park and if there is snow on the ground, you will probably need all-wheel-drive to reach it as the last mile or so is unpaved steep switchbacks. Definitely would recommend.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. To clarify, all the Windcliff roads are well-maintained gravel roads. In fact, they are so well-maintained they are often mistaken for paved! However, we do recommend all-wheel or 4-wheel drive vehicles in the mountains during the winter months.
Thanks again for the review. -

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Breiding Upper. Upon arrival the house was staged in perfect condition, with all the amenities to get our vacation started. The house was clean, in order and very warm and inviting. We cooked at home most days and nights, finding all the cookware one would need. We just supplied our food and were able to take advantage of some spices that were left behind from previous guests. The view was spectacular, facing the eastern side of the Rocky Mountain National Park. The two staff members we met that helped us check in and out were wonderful and very friendly. An easy drive into Estes for a local bite and drink and of course Rmnp for a few days of easy access to all kinds of hiking. Just far enough south of Estes to really get away from the major tourist spots, but not far away where you don't have easy access to anything you want. This was our first time visiting the area during the winter and definitely would go back during the same time in a heart beat. All-in-all, we really felt like we were staying at home. We'll definitely be coming back next year.

Champaign, ILAn amazing stay in the midst of crazy
Left on 12/08/2012 for a stay in November 2012
We visited Breiding Upper on our Honeymoon and it was nothing short of spectacular. The views of the front range are incredible, the house is a great size for two and for quite a few more. The master bed was comfortable, the fireplaces were set up to work wonderfully, the hot tub was a great treat to look up at the stars while sitting in. We were a little disappointed that the indoor hot tub wasn't working, but the outdoor one was great.
The glassed in patio area felt better suited to more people than just us two, but it seemed very useful. The dish accommodations were great and the fridge was plenty big. We wish it was a big warmer, so we could have enjoyed the amazing deck balcony overlooking the mountains.
The main tv is in a bit of a strange angle and spot, but that didn't make or break a single detail of our stay.
On top of it all, when we were evacuated because of a forest fire in the national park, the staff were incredibly helpful in helping us feel calm and informing us of what was going on. They called my cell phone and then when they weren't sure if we were out, continued to check the cabin phone, even though we were safe.
When they got ahold of us, they were incredibly helpful and blessed us with refunding our last night in the cabin, as we weren't going to be able to stay there. The refund was prompt and their service was incredible.
We definitely look forward to our next stay with Windcliff, and particularly in Breiding Upper. -

Breiding Upper was a fantastic place for our family to stay while in Estes Park. The home is well appointed and the pictures do not do justice to the beautiful views of the Rocky Mountains. The home is well equipped with a wide variety of cooking supplies, which were much appreciated.
It is obvious Mr. Breiding and the staff of Windcliff take pride in the upkeep of the home and grounds. We look forward to visiting again in the years to come. -

Left on 09/12/2012 for a stay in August 2012
This is our second stay at Breiding upper.  First was my husband and I's honeymoon in November 2008 and now this stay with family.  We also used Breiding lower for my Mother, sister and nephew.  I knew my Mother would love the views and homey feeling.  Something she needed after my Dad's passing in December.  It was a place for her to relax and reflect.  My Mother and I were  both born and raised in Colorado with most of our family still living in the Denver metro area.  For older folks who just want to sit and read or do nothing but enjoy the views and general splendor with family and friends this place is perfect. For the active, Rmnp and Estes Park are minutes away.  Grand Lake and Grandby and the city are little over an hour away.  The only minor complaint, is the pull out couch.  We found we could not use it.  When we unfolded it the head was lower then the feet and was difficult to unfold and fold back in so we ended up moving people to a place in town when we lost the use of the lower unit as we could not put anyone on the pull out.  I think the pull out is considered in # of people Breiding sleeps so you may want to keep this in mind until it is replaced.  We thought about putting the mattress from the pull out on the floor but decided against that.  A bit of an inconvenience but it would not keep us from coming back to stay at the Breiding house or Windcliff.  We are fans for life and will most likely vacation and possibly consider buying here when retire and plan on moving back home to Colorado.  The staff has always treated us so nice, like family, interested in our stories about the wild life or what we were doing to fill our days.  Thank-you Mr. Breiding and Windliff staff for allowing us to make memories here. Our stay in Breiding Upper was delightful. The home is well appointed and has a great hot tub space-so welcome after those long hikes. The views from the deck are spectacular. It is very nicely furnished with a convenient layout. The only downside is the parking-since other homes are close by, the driveway can be a challenge if other visitors are next door. Overall it was a great experience

Left on 08/23/2012 for a stay in August 2012
This property was a wonderful place to stay. It was spacious and roomy with a huge deck with views from any room in the house. The house was very clean which was important to us especially as we were traveling with two little ones. The kitchen was more than equipped with everything we needed even some new appliances. The washer and dryer off the kitchen was an added plus. The sunroom was favorite place to hangout with lots of windows and sky lights. Lots of firewood for the 2 fireplaces which we enjoyed on the cool nights. It had two hot tubs one inside and out. Only the outside one worked which was not a problem for us. Also the pullout couch needed to be replaced as the mattress was not comfortable at all. We anticipated leaving one day later than we actually had. The management was very nice about our mistake and allowed us extra time to vacate the property. Also my granddaughter left her very special bunny which they found and express mailed to us which we really appreciated. Location is just a short ride to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.

The Windcliff staff were excellent, kind and very helpful throughout the whole process from reservations to check out. The home was beautiful and more than we had hoped for. We've stayed in a lot of vacation rentals and I believe this is the best one so far. It had every amenity imaginable from free wifi and long distance phone, room-to-room intercoms, hot tub, bidet in the master bath, walk in closet that doubled as a dressing room, DVD in two rooms, full library of books, games, puzzles and movies, stocked kitchen, two dining areas, a sun room, two fireplaces, and garage parking. The house was well kept and clean. We had a great time at Breiding Upper and if we return to Estes Park we will request this rental again.

My son and I wanted to spend a week hiking Rmnp, so we found Windcliff and Breiding Upper on the Windcliff website, and boy...were we blown away. We could tell from the pictures the unit was nice, but it was much better than we expected. It had everything we needed to prepare meals, sleep comfortably, enjoy a picturesque view of the mountains, and feel like we were out in the mountains, even though we were only 15 minutes out of Estes Park. Very enjoyable... We will be back. The staff at Windcliff was very professional and checked us in and out very quickly.

Left on 06/18/2012 for a stay in June 2012
Quite simply - this was our best family vacation ever. I really don't think I could ever stay in a hotel again with my family. Windcliff's properties are top notch and I highly recommend this location for Estes Park. The view never gets old from this location and the home is exceptionally clean. The only negative I could think of is the switchbacks on the drive up to the house - but that is all forgotten when you sit on the deck and watch the clouds breach the mountain tops... I am looking forward to convincing extended family to return w me to rent a bigger property on the hill. Staff was great, very responsive to my pre-arrival inquiries and full of local tips to enjoy your stay. Also - the location is perfect to watch all kinds of wildlife... Deer and Elk abound. Absolutely outstanding.

We had a magnificent 5-day stay at Breiding Upper. It was a well stocked, roomy, and terrific home. The hot tub was so welcoming after a day hiking at Rmnp, and the view of the mountains was beautiful. Each morning, coffee in hand, we'd sit and just watch the mountains as we ate breakfast. We have rented many homes, and Breiding was definitely up there with the nicest on the list.

Agree with the other reviews that this is a great vacation rental, and the winter rates are very reasonable. The only ding is limited cable/satellite HD channels. Had an issue with the showerhead in the master bath. Reported it to the rental office on our departure and they appreciated learning about it. I assume it's been fixed. Nice place if you enjoy cocktails...seemed to have the right glasses for whatever you're drinking.

Windcliff properties made our trip very smooth and easy. Breiding Upper was great! The home was very open and the view was something you have to experience for yourself. Left on 03/22/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We have been wanting to stay at Windcliff for several years now but never got around to renting a place. I surprised my wife for her birthday with a weekend stay at Breiding Upper. It was everything we had hoped for. The view was unbelievable, the house was great, the Windcliff staff was very welcoming and accommodating, and we saw many wild animals, including a bobcat! We spent most of the weekend on the deck, as planned, with short bursts back into town to limit our time away from the deck and that incredible view!
We loved building fires in the fireplace every night, the hot tub was clean and the perfect temperature, and most surprising of all, out teenage son (who doesn't usually appreciate things like a cliffside mountain view) said "I woke up and couldn't stop staring out the window because this place makes me feel so happy". How many places can claim that? We can't wait to go back!

My wife and I had stayed at Breiding upper over 3 years ago and loved it. This year we returned after the birth of our daughter who is now 3. We found upper Breiding just as we had back then . Immaculate. It was a wonderful place to begin our daily adventures from and a relaxing repose after those 5 marvelous days of hiking, shopping elk watching andt to my 3 year old's delight, horseback riding. We plan on returning next year with more family members so may have to op for a property with 3 bedrooms but upper Breiding was perfect for us.

Breiding Upper has awesome views of the mountains! It is a very comfortable home with 2 bedrooms as well as 2 baths-the hot tub was wonderful-just check first before you go out-one day we saw a black bear sitting 5 feet from the hot tub eating away at a berry bush! We also saw a coyote traveling down the road at the properties! I would suggest that you not take a large vehicle there as the turn around is quite tight! The service provided by the Windcliff staff was excellent! We did make suggestions as to items the owner should fix(ripped screen doors, etc.) The road is not for the faint of heart! But the view is well worth the drive!

Thanks for your review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Wildlife is definitely a factor in our pristine mountain environment and our guests tell us that this is one of the special things about Windcliff. We appreciate your feedback about the maintenance issues and have addressed the things you found. As far as the roads are concerned, our location on Ram's Horn Mountain gives us some of the most panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains to be found anywhere, but you do have to drive up the mountain.

Breiding Upper is well equipped and has a great view. We had stayed at Breiding Lower last year and prefer that slightly over the upper because of the patio. We used the sunroom quite a bit - it is the brightest room in the house and a great spot for breakfast. The driveway is the only true disadvantage here - we had a great deal of difficulty getting a minivan in and out of the garage. The service at Windcliff was, as always, superb!

When I called to make reservations, the Windcliff staff was knowledgeable and courteous. They were good to follow-up and tell me step-by-step what I needed to do to complete my reservation. When we arrived, the staff was exactly as they had been on the telephone & e-mail.
The house was in perfect condition. I'm a clean freak and it was honestly the cleanest place I've ever stayed. Parts of the home were a tad dated, but overall it was very nice. The kitchen had all items necessary to prepare our own meals & having a grill was nice too. The bed was comfortable & waking up to the view from the bedroom windows was awesome. Also we were never disturbed by anyone else staying at Windcliff. During past vacations everyone always hates going back "home". Not this year. We didn't mind going back and preparing dinner and sitting on the deck for the night.
The two downers to Breiding Upper are a small parking spot (okay if you're in a car) and the winding road to get to the home (that leads to an amazing view and peace and quiet).
If you are staying in Estes Park because of the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, you must stay at Breiding Upper. We spent many hours on the deck enjoying the amazing view of Long's Peak. Words cannot describe how perfect & majestical the view is. I saw the photos online and was skeptical that the view would actually be that nice. It was better. We honestly loved this place.

Pros: View, luxurious accommodations, the bidet in master bath, outdoor hot tub, garage, comfort of living room, plenty of windows, wet bar, king bed in master bedroom. Kitchen is stocked with all tools needed. Gas grill is top notch too!
Cons: parking is very tight, floorboards on deck are very loud. I always felt like I was disturbing Breiding lower because they creaked so loudly. Oh - and stereo has no external inputs if you want to play your iPod. I brought an 1/8 to RCa cable, but it's so old/basic it has no aux input. It would be nice to have this option. No one carries Cd's these days, let alone tapes. -

The first evening made us wonder if we would be able to enjoy our vacation, because of the smoke from the terrible fire at Boulder that drifted up over the mountains. Our view was limited and the air was thick with smoke. During the night the wind came up, blew away the smoke, and we had perfect weather after that! The rest of the week was truly a vacation get away! We loved everything about the place--including the hot tub. The only disappointment was not seeing any wildlife from the house. My husband and I enjoyed a two day getaway over the Valentine's Day weekend. We live less than an hour away but felt like we were far away from home. You can't call Breiding Upper a "cabin" - it is a beautiful, luxurious vacation home. We went snowshoeing in Wild Basin on Sunday and jumped in the hot tub to thaw out as soon as we got home. WOW! The view from every balcony was just stupendous. We've lived in the area for 15 years, but have never enjoyed the sunrise and sunset the way you can from this home. Needless to say, we spent lots of time in the two chairs in front of the huge livingroom window gazing at the keyhole in Longs Peak. The home was warm, cozy and dry and fully outfitted with every piece of kitchen equipment you could ever need. The livingroom fireplace was wonderful. We want to visit again in warmer weather when we can have all of the windows open and a breeze blowing through the house... I also want to say that the management company staff were very friendly and professional and took care of every detail. The home was immaculate and the instructions were clear. All I can say is this place is SUPERB in every respect!!

After looking over several places to stay in Estes Park for our honeymoon, my wife and I happened upon windcliff just by a google search. We are very happy we did, as it offered EXACTLY what we were after; a quiet setting with a great view where we were able to relax and unwind. The unit was located in a perfect location for a GREAT view of the mountains, and the hot tub was very nice. The cabinets had many spices we needed already, which was very nice, and there were complimentary snacks/coffee waiting on us upon arrival. One morning it snowed and we awakened to a herd of elk right in front of the home. In addition, a few mule deer does frequented the location. There was plenty of firewood, more than adequate for our week stay. It is located very close to Rocky Mountain National Park, and only a very short drive (less than 10 minutes) from Estes Park. The staff at Windcliff were very nice and genuinely care about the people renting their properties. All in all, one of the best experiences I have ever had on a vacation.

Oklahoma City, OklahomaBreiding Upper was not a downer
Left on 08/30/2009 for a stay in August 2009
The Breiding home that we visited in August was charming. The home was quite similar to the Cedar lower home, that we visited in September 2008, in that they were both spacious and accomodating. I liked the lay-out of the Cedar home better than the Breiding (second bedroom had an adjoining, roomier bathroom at the Cedar home whereas the other was disconnected and smaller and the kitchen in the Cedar home was easier to cook in). We had a hot tub behind the residence that gave us privacy and the sun room next to it was fun. The first two days were used to acclimate to the elevation and we used lots of amenities to keep us busy (board games, dominoes, television, sun room, deck, etc.). Speaking of the deck, that was a favorite of ours and our guests. Two words...the view! The home was easy to get to but a little tricky getting out of the garage with a big suv. On the nearly last day the water heater blew a fuse and the staff responded quickly and courteously. The only two complaints we had with the stay was the bed in the master bedroom was very hard and uncomfortable and after an attempt to fix the wireless internet, we still were not able to use our phones to connect to the internet for the entire stay (not a deal breaker but was inconvenient). All in all, if you are looking for some r&r and breath-taking views, this is a great place.

The house is beautiful. It sits high up on the hill with an awesome view of the
Rockies. I loved the deck -- which goes all along the "view-side" of the
house. The house comes with a hot tub, although we never got to use it. The
rooms are all decent-sized and it was great to have two bathrooms! The beds
were comfortable. We cooked breakfast each morning, and we found most of
what we needed (like salt and pepper, spices, cooking oil etc) in the kitchen
cabinets. The only downside is that that the driveway is narrow and shared by
3 families. If there is another car sitting outside the garage, space gets pretty
tight.

Left on 07/31/2009 for a stay in July 2009
Virtually every aspect of our stay at Windcliff was top notch. The check in was speedy and the staff was very friendly. The Breiding Upper was located near the top of the mountain and the views were stunning to say the least. The Breiding was very clean and well decorated. We cooked every meal there utilizing the grill extensively. The kitchen was very well stocked and the spice rack had lots of options. The hot tub was put to good use every night and the starry skies were absolutely gorgeous. We had stayed the year before in a hotel in Estes and wanted to do something different this year and found Windcliff Properties. The extra money was well spent on the Breiding and I would give it big thumbs up. You can't go wrong here!!

We really enjoyed having the hot tub for the days after we hiked. We would definately stay there again.

The enormous deck overlooks the most spectacular views of the Rockies that I have ever seen. There are also great windows throughout the home so that the views can be enjoyed from the inside as well. The home itself was very nice, a bit outdated, but well-maintained. Overall, we would HIGHLY recommend this property and would love to return.

Cheyenne, WY"Wind Cliff" accurate descriptor
Left on 01/28/2009 for a stay in January 2009
My wife and I spent a week at WindCliff (Breiding Upper) and really enjoyed the place. The rooms were spacious, the kitchen was well-stocked with cooking untensils and supplies, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the views were stunning.
The issues we had were that when one stays at Windcliff, it is very difficult to do things like go for a walk. Because the unit is 700 feet above the paved road and there are no flat spots to walk, driving was the only way to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Walking was OK going down, but the steep roads and switchbacks coming back up make this an activity for only the fittest individuals. If you want to stroll around the forest or walk to a coffee shop, this is not the place for you. A trip to town, only a few miles as the crow flies, is a 20-30 minute adventure.
The steepness of the roads caused me great concern in the event of heavy snows. They are all dirt and appear to be well maintained, but the drops off the sides were precipitous and frightening. I can only imagine what it would be like trying to navigate the road in the dark and in a snowstorm. I am only glad that we did not face that challenge.
The wind is constant, as one might expect when clinging to the side of a mountain. The unit was well constructed, and we didn't have much wind-howling noise, but standing on the deck would have been a perilous exercise.
On the plus side, the views, as I mentioned earlier, were fabulous. Seeing the top of the Continental Divide gather the sun each morning as well as putting old Sol to bed each night was a one-off experience. I'm not sure where else you could get views like that.
But be sure to bring a good book, because if you ever tire of the views, you'll be looking for things to do. And walking to town is not a very practical solution to that dilemma.
While we enjoyed ourselves, its unlikely we will return. A place with a little better access is what we will seek on our next trip.Response from Windcliff Properties, Inc. - 02/05/2009

Thanks very much for your detailed review. We are glad that you enjoyed our wonderful views and the Breiding home.
Our location on Ram's Horn Mountain just outside of Estes Park town limits allows us to have awesome views, but the tradeoff is that we are a mountainside location. Our location gives us great seclusion from the hustle and bustle of town. Our private roads are maintained in excellent condition winter and summer, including regular snowplowing when needed. Winds are a factor mostly in the winter when snowstorms move through the area, typical for the mountains. Access to downtown Estes Park is very easy, about 15 minutes by car from the Brieiding Upper or any other home in our development. -

Left on 01/24/2009 for a stay in December 2008
A quiet Christmas at Windcliffe was what we were searching. It was indeed that for us. We were there for 7 nights and didn't leave the house for 4 days. We had a glowing fireplace, movies, books, and music. We enjoyed the hottub and the beauiful Colorado sky and mountains. Regular service to the tub is provided which is a good example of the care provided.(suggest taking big towells) The grill worked great for our kabobs on Christmas. The highlight was when over 50 elk grazed and rested by our house late one afternoon. The snow falling on the mountains was beauiful to watch. It was a relief to learn it doesn't accumulate as we are accustomed in NE. We hope to return again.

This was a last minute but long overdue vacation for my husband and I. We wanted to take my parents to the mountains but knew they each had some limitations. The house was all it advertised itself to be. It was beautifully furnished and the views were spectacular. We saw deer each morning as they grazed across our yard and were entertained by the most charming squirrels. The evenings were perfets with little artificial lights to block the awesome views of the stars. We will definately make another trip to Estes Park. Thank you for the super hospitality!

Left on 12/11/2008 for a stay in September 2007
Four of us stayed at the subject property primarily to have access to the "bugling" elk.
It was quite clean, although somewhat dated.
It is quite spacious, has a large full kitchen and an extraordinarily good view from its mountain perch. TV, stereo, etc. worked well, as did all kitchen appliances. Parking is adequate, although it would be tight for a large SUV. It is only a few minutes from downtown Estes Park. We would rent it again.Response from Windcliff Properties, Inc. - 12/13/2008
