Buffalo, NYBest vacation ever
Left on 08/24/2012 for a stay in August 2012
I needed a last minute get away and stumbled upon the Cook Camp, which had a week open in august. I travel with 3 German Shepherds that are working dogs and it's not easy finding a place that will allow them, but the owner was gracious enough to accept them.
You are provided a house boat have to take to get to the cottage, which is one of the most beautiful 10 minutes I've experienced in my life. The cottage sits back a bit from the water, but still gives amazing views. It so peaceful and relaxing. There is a sandy beach that is perfect for swimming in the crystal clear waters of Lake Placid. The cottage itself is spotless, large enough to make everyone happy, but also cozy. The screened in porch is perfect for having meal and taking in the outdoors. The cottage has everything you'll need, so buy your groceries beforehand and you won't have to go back to the mainland at all if you don't want to. The landscaping is well maintained and there's a large yard in the front, with the mountain in the back. The Lake Trail runs up behind the cottage about 100 yards and will take you all the way to Whiteface Mountain if you are up for it.
You are also supplied with a small fishing boat, sailboat, and canoe, which are great for exploring the shorelines of Lake Placid. The neighbors are friendly and quiet. The kitchen has everything you need for making meals. The bedrooms and baths are well appointed.
I plan on making the Cook Camp a yearly vacation because I cannot imagine another place I would rather be.

Doylestown, PAThe perfect LP camp experience.
Left on 08/09/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We loved our time at the Cook Camp. It sings Lake Placid with its warm decor and nice amenities. There are beautiful views from the dock and it is accessible by boat only making it feel more "away"... yet we were only 10 minutes from town. The family was a pleasure to deal with.

Cook Camp was the perfect setting for our Fall vacation. We stayed with 2 other families with small children. The house itself was very inviting, cozy and luxurious! We had everything we needed for a great 2 days. The Cook family really had everything you could ask for- fishing rods, books to read, board games, grill, kitchen with all the essentials. We enjoyed the platoon boat and canoe. The kids liked playing on the beach. We all loved just sitting at the dock and watching the lake...the views were gorgeous!! We all left wishing we could have stayed for a couple more days! We would love to be back soon and highly recommend this rental property!!

What an adventure for otherwise beach vacationers. Lake Placid was so peaceful and serene for our family of teenagers and youngster. We enjoyed removing our kids from the demands of cell phones, Facebook, wi-fi and other media.
The cabin is nothing short of charming. We loved
the open windows, boat rides, the fishing, and lounging on the daybed on the front porch.
We stayed up late playing cards, dominoes and watching dvd's. We filled our days enjoying real "family time." What a treat! -

We couldn't have had a more enjoyable experience. Camp Cook is wonderfully maintained, super beautiful! Cabin great! Boats great! We came in mid-June, had a big T-storm roll through early in the week which was really fun. spent the day reading on the screened in proch listening to the rain fall, then went hiking in the afternoon on the lush trails right behind the house. Sunrises are amazing, sunsets even better. Cabin clean, plenty to do. Joe the caretaker is extremely helpful and nice making sure everything goes smoothly throughout your stay. Thank you!!!

The cabin was cozy with comfortable beds, a fully equipped kitchen and either indoor or screened porch dining options. Plenty of bathrooms with good showers providing plenty of water pressure. The living area was a good place to end the evening with the family after an activity packed day. The property grounds afforded direct access to the water for swimming, fishing or kicking back to admire the scenery contrast of the lake and surrounding mountains.
Attractions in the area offered something for everyone in our family whether it was the hiking, fishing, horseback riding, shopping and dining in town, visiting the Olympic venues and museums.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to return to experience Lake Placid during the ski season.
The Cook's were great hosts, and their caretaker was pleasant. -

Toronto, Ontario, CanadaAmazing adirondack vacation spot
Left on 06/14/2010 for a stay in June 2010
In our party were 5 adults, 2 toddlers and 1 dog and we had an absolutely amazing time at Camp Cook. Our stay was for 3 nights during the first weekend of June.
Joe, the caretaker, met us at the boat slip and is so friendly and helpful.
We arrived to find the place immaculately clean. The washrooms and kitchen include all the modern amenities of home.
With four boats, fishing poles, a trampoline, endless trails, breathtaking views and the tranquility of the lake, there is no shortage of things to do. Even if it rains all day, there is a trunk stocked with games and satellite TV. The day it rained, we watched some movies, sang karaoke, played games and the little ones loved the coloring books. Most of the time we were out on the dock or out on the water fishing.
I loved the fact that there was a dishwasher and that we could do the laundry. We ventured up Whiteface mountain, and the views were magnificent. The town is quaint and beautiful with a rich history worth exploring. I have to say, my favorite part of the weekend was canoeing around the lake, breathing in the crisp spring air and taking in the magnificent views.
Being spring, it was a bit chilly, but when the sun came out it quickly warmed up.
Would definitely recommend this place and hope to return during warmer weather. -

New YorkNice hideout with modern conveniences
Left on 06/10/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We were 5 adults, two young children (~1year old) and a dog. We had more than enough room (big kitchen and patio tables that could easily accommodate 8 adults). Nice comfortable cottage on a clean lake. The pontoon boat was much nicer than I expected and it made boat-only access to the cottage enjoyable.

NY, NYTranquil and relaxing
Left on 05/29/2010 for a stay in May 2010
We went on a quiet May long weekend; two couples stayed in the cabin (although it could fit many more). We were greeted by the caretaker, Joe, at the dock to pick up the boat. He could not have been more welcoming or helpful. The lake was calm and beautiful. The house, even more so! It is very private. You have your own private dock for the boat, where you can also find a kayak and a sailing boat if you wish to use it. The house was incredibly spacious, comfortable, and filled with all the modern amenities that you might need. It was also very clean with plenty of towels and lacks absolutely nothing. We cooked, barbecued, kayaked, hiked, sunbathed, played volleyball, and ate in the beautiful screened in porch. If you get bored (which you shouldn't) - the town of Lake Placid is only a short boat ride away. We absolutely look forward to going again!

Woodbine, GeorgiaA great vacation spot -- definitely exceeds expectations!
Left on 04/30/2010 for a stay in September 2008
The home is perfect for friends and especially for families. It is tastefully furnished and easily accommodates crowds -- plenty of sleep space, and seating for everyone at mealtime. If you can tear yourself away, the pontoon boat takes you across the lake to the charming town of Lake Placid (full of everything at every price). The Wednesday farmers' market is a must and if you are there before Labor Day, Donnelly's Ice Cream may be a daily stop -- the best ice cream we have ever had.
Modern roomy kitchen, HD TV, games, beautiful view, grill. Adirondack chairs on the dock, water toys, ski boat. Simply wonderful.
