Description from the owner

Ocean Park/Condado area in San Juan, PR.

This clean, spacious and bright studio apartment is situated in a quaint, tree lined street in Ocean Park's gated residential community.

We are steps from one of the most beautiful beaches in San Juan. It is an easy beach to get to as you don't need to take an elevator and walk blocks to get to it. It is literally steps away. The water is great for swimming as it is just sand and not rocky like other neighborhoods. Within blocks you find very calm areas for a relaxed family swim and wavy areas for the more adventurous ones.

Fantastic location and way to experience San Juan!

Left on 06/16/2013 for a stay in June 2013

We spent our honeymoon in San Juan in this studio and couldn't have been any happier with our choice. From start to finish Maria made everything extremely easy (including returning our security deposit before we even boarded our plane in San Juan!) and Javier who does maintenance was wonderful to meet and get to know. Because we stayed for 10 days, having a kitchen made everything much cheaper than it would have otherwise been, which is in addition to the already low cost of the studio compared to hotels in Condado, Miramar, or Isla Verde.

Okay, so what did we like the most? The beach! We spent at least a couple hours everyday at the beach because it was literally three houses down from us. Needless to say the beach itself was beautiful and never overcrowded. Even better? Because the studio is in Ocean Park, which is more residential than the super-touristy areas, we didn't have to contend with hoards of vacationers and instead most of the people who use that stretch of beach are Puerto Rican. Also close by were several local restaurants (including the now famous Kasalta bakery famous because Obama visited there in 2011), convenience stores, Walgreens, and fast food restaurants.

In terms of getting to Old San Juan and the more central parts of the city, the T5 and C53 buses were only a 5 minute walk away. That said, the buses can be irregular and it's safe to assume a 15-30 minute wait for them. After you're on them though it's about a 20 minute ride. With rental cars there isn't a designated space to park but there's parking along the streets around the studio and the one night we had to do that it wasn't a problem.

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting PR and in no small part because of where we stayed. For those not looking for a 5-star hotel and prefer not to always be around tourists, from our experience you can't go wrong with this one.

Property is just as advertised. Maria was a perfect hostess and Javier was available if the need arose. The information and the color coded map of dining, activities and retail was excellent. Everything you could need is within walking distance, and Old San Juan a 10 minute car ride. Location is also 10-12 minutes from the airport in the opposite direction. Security deposit was returned the same day I checked out. I will definitely be back!

a nice, simple, satisfying accommodation. All the basics are supplied and the lovely outdoor area is wonderful to relax in! beach is steps from the door, great walkable markets and coffee/yoga/dinner/drinks/laundry closeby. central to PR hotspots and parks. Gorgeous beach, lovely private community, good parking.

only two areas of improvement: futon is uncomfortable and toilet is temperamental. these factors are a small sacrifice compared to the overall value and quality of the apartment. I will definitely return and definitely recommend to others!

a truly unforgettable stay. I mean, wow!

the beautiful, clean beach was right few steps from the property and the flat was pretty clean and had all what we needed !
the only thing what was disturbing us every morning, was the noise from a construction building two doors away from our flat.
but still We enjoyed being there !
Thank you Carina and Javier for all!

Left on 01/02/2013 for a stay in December 2012

Right from get go, the rental Co was prompt in responding to queries and addressing concerns.

Location was very convenient. Close to Old SJ and yet, not within Old SJ. Beach was 3-4 houses from this unit. Unit was adequately furnished. Instructions to access the unit were very clear. Lots of helpful info provided about the neighborhood, where the pharmacy/grocery store were, etc

Parking is on the curb but it is not a problem to find space and more importantly, very very safe. Within days after vacating, the deposit was returned promptly.

      Very happy overall.

A serene stay steps from Ocean Park beach

Left on 11/23/2012 for a stay in November 2012

I stayed in the ground floor studio next to this one. It looks like a mirror image of this one. The pictures are accurate. This is a clean apartment that is spacious for a studio. It's private and quiet with new looking furniture and appliances. But the best part is that Ocean Park beach- which is Gorgeous- is literally just a few steps from your front door. The water there is crystal clear and you'll be close enough to get a early morning or late night moment on the beach to yourself before/after the crowds. The apartment is not cleaned daily, which is a drawback if you're not so tidy. And I am told by Puerto Rican friends that even what I thought was very affordable (about $500 for the week) is what some might pay for a month is some apartments on the island. But one never knows the state of that elusive dirt cheap place you could have found. Still, the manager might consider leaving some sort of list of important essentials like the locations of the 24hr SuperMax supermarket that I discovered only on my last night. That would have been helpful to know about before. Nevertheless, the apartment was lovely. I will certainly return. It was worth every penny and is an extremely well managed place with everything working just as it should.

      Thank you for your review.

We have revised the detailed map we supplied you. It now says SuperMax Supermarket 24/7 instead of Super Max 24/7.

Per our conversations we were unaware you were interested in daily cleaning. That could have easily been arranged for an additional fee.

Regarding the $500 apartment your friends mentioned I'd like to clarify -for the benefit of people considering short term rentals in PR- these monthly rents are based on a yearly signed contract. A property at this price would not be as close to the beach, probably much less inside the controlled access area of Ocean Park. They would also be unfurnished, without appliances, linens, towels, plates, glasses and utensils. Most importantly it would be without cable, WiFi, water and electricity.

Great Location, Small place but perfert for 2 people.

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012

My girlfriend and I stayed in San Juan the end of July. I booked this property with Maria after reading lots of good reviews. I was hesitant about paying upfront but everything was perfect. Our deposit was returned after our vacation. We paid $600 for a week.

The place is a small bachelor. But there's everything there that you need to cook and clean. There was toilet paper, paper towels, soap, beach towels and beach chairs. Everything was clean. The place is a 30 second walk to the beach. Just like the pictures. It's very nice. The area seems very safe, there's a guard 24/7 who checks cars coming into the area. There are cops around.

There are a few things I could recommend for improvement. A screen door would be nice so mosquito's don't get in if you want to keep the door open and a garden hose or something like that to wash yourself off after you come from the beach.

For the area. I highly recommend trying pizza cone's, directly north of when you come out of the compound across from the gas station. If you turn left on Mcleary coming out of the compond there's a very tasty mexican burrito place. Kasalta isn't bad either. Stay away from the beach restaurant though, it's ridiculously expensive and the food isn't that great.

For the island. We rented a car for a couple days and went swimming under a waterfall in La Mima falls in El Yunque (free) also we went kayaking at night to the bio luminescent bay on Laguna Grande north of fajardo ($40 per person). Very cool. If you show up at 6 without booking it seems like you can find a company that has a cancellation, but they seem really busy.

Clean & Comfortable - Very Close to Best Beach

Left on 05/01/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Carina provided excellent, professional, & prompt service. She helped us avoid add'l fees on taxis & provided a handy walking-distance area map. She even called a local tour group to get us more info!

The 1st floor studio is accessed through a semi-private outdoor patio (shared with 1 other unit). Secured from the street by a locked gate, it was perfect for drying clothes. The unit was tidy & cool. The bathroom had excellent water pressure & was well maintained. We met Javier during his Monday afternoon maintenance trip - so nice!

Ocean Park's beach was truly better than any other in San Juan. With gentle waves & clear water it was the place to be for locals & relaxed vacationers. There were beach chairs in the closet & plenty of towels. We took advice from our taxi driver & left the beach when the locals did to avoid sand fleas & night time mischief.

Some properties on the street were vacant, but our 2nd floor neighbors had their porches open signaling that safety was not a concern. In our 6 day stay we never had reason for alarm. This was a very dog friendly area - they ran free on the beaches. We loved this, but if you're afraid of dogs I'd keep this in mind.

The walk to Condado along McLeary was really enjoyable - no taxi req'd. We enjoyed our night walks listening to the sound of coqui chirping in the trees. The 24/7 Walgreens behind Kasalta was so convenient. We also caught the T-5 bus to Old San Juan from Loiza for .75. The buses were always clean & air conditioned. We also booked a rainforest/ biobay tour through Puerto Rico Kayaking which picked us up right at the Santa ana gate to our neighborhood.

We loved the hummus from Uvva in Hosteria del Mar w/ truffle oil & crispy chickpeas. Kasalta's coffee was refreshing, & Pamela's in Numero Uno Guest House had tall iced lattes. Tres Palmas had plenty of bathing suits, apparel, & accessories. All were nearby.

Overall we'd stay again in a heartbeat.

Great location, great price, smooth transaction

Left on 03/11/2012 for a stay in February 2012

This was a great property to stay at located conveniently in the gated Ocean Park neighborhood of San Juan. Its not a 5-star accommodation, but that isn't what its advertised as. Its a basic studio unit with pretty much everything you need while traveling in the San Juan area. It would be a little cramped if there were more than two people. I paid for the rental on PayPal and the keys were there when I arrived. A representative of the owner was present at some point to answer questions if we had any, but basically we were gone most of the time so didn't see him otherwise. The kitchens is great for cooking breakfast before a long day of sightseeing. There are no toiletries like there are in most hotels, so make sure you bring your own. The beach is about 50 yards down the street and is a great place, seems to be very popular with the locals and some beach towels are provided in the apartment. The neighborhood seems very safe with a guarded gate at night. The rate on this apartment is very competitive with other options, especially given the fact that its much more private than a hotel and you get a kitchen. Its located right near a lot of bars/restaurants/markets within walking distance.

Transportation: it costs $15 flat rate plus $1/bag for cab service from the airport. There are two bus routes you can catch - the C53 will pick up at stops on McLeary just a couple blocks away and a short walk to the Condado area you can pick up the B10? on ashford, both with service to Old San Juan for 75 cents each way per person. The a5 apparently doesn't run anymore, so dont be fooled by the signs at bus stops. Also the buses do not run on the schedule at the stops and you may have to wait a while.

Anyways I'd definitely stay at this place again if I was going to San Juan, although next time I'll probably check out a different part of the island

I spent 2 beautiful weeks in this "4 Doors from Beach" lrg. studio. This place was exactly like in the pictures. It was a very nice and cozy studio. The apartment was very clean and we had everything that we needed. One time we asked for a beach chair and the left 2 chairs for us on the patio 30 min after I had text them. They also put out a new patio set. In front of the house there is a beautiful beach view from the street. The area is ok, but I felt extremely safe and everything you need is nearby. I would definitely recommend the studio, its is great for the money.

Ocean Park was a nice area and the apartment had everything we needed. We enjoyed having the kitchen to make our meals and breakfasts. Local Restaurants were close by and within walking distance to also try some local cuisine. Maria responded to all emails very timely and provided a cell number, very easy check in process, directions, and a map of the area. Javier was available the day after we arrived and answered many questions. We did not have a car and found that we were able to walk, use the bus, or take a cab. We went to Old San Juan toured the forts, and took a 1/2 day tour of the El Yunque National Park-Rain Forest. The beach in Ocean Park was very nice and the water was warm. Plenty to do and see in the area a very nice vacation.

Left on 12/02/2011 for a stay in November 2011

I was told the owners would be by to say hello and check in with me the first day/night I was there, never saw either of them the entire time. Granted I had their contact info should I have needed them. The place was overall clean and very well stocked with everything we needed however the dishes in the cabinets were dirty, there was still trash in the bathroom, the shower and bathroom floor had "hair ;? " in it, there was no hot water, the toilet didnt flush- almost always had to flush twice, there is no window on the door, so locking it really doesnt matter all you have to do it pull the shade to get in, but it never felt like there was a safety issue. Not that it has anything to do with the property itself but if you plan on walking mostly, there are few restaurants close by that really felt safe to get to at night walking. It was a cute little place that felt cozy, definitely nice, just the few little things... there was security at night as promised, who was very nice, the beach was absoulty beautiful, the neighbors were great, if you stay right by ocean park it is a great little area! When you do need a taxi, plan on calling a taxi service since they really arent around to "flag", but the taxi service Maria suggested (Metro) was great and always really fast! As well Maria was always great in responding to emails before my arrival and with her suggestions. Thanks for allowing me to stay

We are glad you found our place cozy and nice and that it was overall clean and well stocked, but regret you had the issues mentioned. We wish you have had a chance to express the minor issues to our building manager Javier so that he could try to check on the matters and act on the problems during your stay. We mentioned that Javier would stop by and he made several attempts but was not able to speak to you.

We spent very little time in the room as we were allways out and about walking and site seing. We loved the cozyness and location of the studio apt. Weather was Pefrect! Constant breeze blowing..The only thing we did not like was the hot water heater may have needed to be turned up a bit for our taste..When we return and we will ~ hopefully we will be able to rent this same apt...:)

From the moment Maria and I made contact I knew we would chose this property. We had research at least 12 other properties, but the way that she responded over the telephone sold me. I am a paramedic by trade and dealing with all types of people on a daily basis you have to know how to treat people and you have to sense what people want and Maria has all of that. She answered every question and she was completely honest. When we arrived it was after 9pm and the instructions were so perfect the taxi driver asked if I lived in Puerto Rico. The studio is cute, we did wish that the fridge had just the regular staples like eggs, milk, bread...just the basics for travelers coming in too late to grab something for the next morning...especially some of that wonderful to die for Puerto Rican coffee stocked, decor and furniture nothing fancy, but who needs fancy when you can count the steps to the beach, quiet and not crowded like Isla Verde. The neighborhood is cute, quiet homey. My boyfriend and I ventured out @nightto go to my favorite spot, Kasalta Bakery...uummm yummy is all I can say and the coffee...Oh my goodness...I truly craved it everyday. You must try it.It rained at least four days, but the studio has a very nice 32in, (I think), television and wi-fi if you like or you could just open the shutters and listen to the sound of the rain hitting them. Our stay has only one downfall...check out day. We cant wait to return.

      Morning glory.........aaaaawwwwwhhhhh...
