- Local Room Tax - 12% of rental - Tax - on stays of 29 days or less
Additional notes from owner
Monthly rates are based on a 28 day month. Any additional days are pro-rated on the monthly rate. There is a local 12% room tax on all stays less than 30 days. There is no tax on stays of 30 days or longer.
Reservation policy:
I reserve with credit card information. I don’t actually charge the card until you arrive. After receiving the credit card information I send you a confirmation by email. If you should need to cancel within 4 months of your reservation date, then I charge the card for whatever I’m not able to recover by renting to someone else. I make a real effort to fill such vacancies but, because it takes time, I charge $50 for my time whether or not I’m able to recover anything. If you cancel sooner than that, then there is no penalty. The sooner you let me know that you need to cancel the more likely I am to be able to fill the reservation. Payment on arrival can be by check, cash, paypal or by credit card.
With your confirmation email I send driving directions, other household information and a liability waiver for the bicycles, should you want to use them.

Belmont, MAAnother great week in Santa Barbara
Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in May 2013
This was our second stay in "Mama Dux", and I teared up when it was time to leave. Our son is a grad student at Ucsb, and we will probably come out every two years until he's done. This unit is perfect for people who like to have a kitchen while staying put in one place for a week. The garden area is beautiful and tranquil, and this unit has a table-and-chairs set next to a gurgling fountain and beautiful plants. The unit is spacious, the bed is comfortable, and the decor is beautiful (there is an additional bed/couch in the living room area). Oh, and the new shower is gorgeous! Laura, who supervises the property, is available at all times to answer questions and to rectify any problems. The house is located a block from State Street. Make a left on State and you can walk to the waterfront; make a right and you can wander by the stores and restaurants. Walk towards the water on State (and under 101) and hang a left onto Yononali Street and you will find yourself on the Urban Wine Trail. Make sure to visit Kunin Wines' sister establishment, Anacapa Vintners, which just opened this year. I'm so sad that our trip is over; I'll have to live on memories till our next visit.

We felt very welcome at this beautiful older home that was full of character and charm. The suite had all the modern conveniences and was in mint condition. The ambiance made for a very relaxing stay and the location was perfect. It was located within a two minute walk to the downtown core and a 5 to 10 minute walk to the beach. We can't wait to go again.

Laguna BeachProposal Weekend
Left on 09/13/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Let me start by saying that this was the most important night of my life thus far!!! Inga and Laura you two are the best host anyone can ask for!!! These two ladies made the "yes" possible. Not only was the place gorgeous and perfect, but the cleanliness was top notch and the amenities were not skimped on in any aspect... The rental was completely turn key and I will never for the rest of my life stay in a hotel again... I loved the area (walking distance to everything) I loved the place, and I loved the kindness shown to me and the above all expectation surprise of beautiful serenity... Hands down my greatest experience in a vacation rental and I have traveled a lot!!! Thank you two lovely ladies and thank you Mama Dux May love continue to reign extreme what a weekend...

Columbus, OhioSweet Stay in the Heart of SB
Left on 09/05/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We stayed in Mama Dux for the week of august 2-9, 2012 and we couldn't have asked for a better apartment, location, or host. Laura made sure everything was in order when we arrived late, and assisted us in using the free bicycles (even repairing a few items on them during our stay - repaired same day!). The location can't be beat - walking distance to State street shops and restaurants, and easily walkable to the ocean, pier and fish market. We ate several "wine, cheese and meat" lunches on the beautiful patio. The washer and dryer were excellent and allowed us to pack light (in just a carryon) and the full kitchen was great for making a nice breakfast and the occassional dinner from fresh fish purchased at the fish market down by the pier. Highly recommend this place!

Los AngelesNice, convenient, artistically appointed place
Left on 06/11/2012 for a stay in June 2012
If you're looking for a hotel room, this isn't the place for you. This is a very beautiful eclectic apartment, a block away from all of the action/restaurants/bars on State St. Quiet, parking, free beach cruiser bikes, fridge and full kitchen. Large shower in this unit, not a bath, but that was fine with me.
Inga and Laura are great hosts, very responsive, and will have many suggestions and answers to any questions. -

BrooklynExceeded our expectations
Left on 05/28/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We stayed in the Mama Dux apartment for a week in May of 2012. We found it very comfortable, spacious and stocked with nice amenities (bikes, outdoor sitting area with comfy chairs, umbrella and burbling fountain). We were a bit concerned prior to our arrival because a Google Map search showed it to be located on a street corner, and adjacent to several auto-body repair shops. However, we used ear plugs when sleeping and minimal external noise was not really an issue. In fact, every night we slept great in the comfy king size bed. The location was actually a big plus because we were very close to the beach, and also lots of restaurants, cafes and art galleries. The only thing to note is that this is an older home, and the upstairs guests can be a bit annoying if they are loud talkers or heavy-footed. Otherwise, we were really pleased with our stay. Laura, the manager, popped in a couple times during our trip to check on the property, and was easily reachable in case we needed anything. Inga and Laura also sorted out a work-table that could be used for computing work while we were staying at the apartment. It was great that they were so proactive in responding to our needs.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for his 40th birthday. We both loved it and looked forward to heading back to the mama apartment to hang out every time left for the day. Our apartment had all the comforts of home and then some. I cant imagine staying anywhere else next time I'm in Santa Barbara. Thank you Inga and Laura for a lovely stay!

The three most important qualities when we research vacation rentals are location, location and location. This historic home has all of them in spades. We walk and cycle everywhere; downtown is only a block away and the beach, four blocks. There`s no need to rent a car.(We fly into L.A. and take the shuttle from the airport to Santa Barbara.) Location aside, this apartment beckons because of its amenities and its patio, complete with fountain. Laura, who manages the property for her cousin Inga, could teach a seminar on property management. Very friendly and couteous, she assures everyone`s vacation is the best that it can be. Thank you, Laura, for a wonderful stay again this year. We look forward to seeing you again next year when we leave the snows of Canada for the sand and warmth of Santa Barbara. And thank you, Inga, for all your tips of places to enjoy in this beautiful city. We consider ourselves very lucky to have discovered Santa Barbara and Mama Dux.

Your positive review means so much to Laura and me but even moreso, your continued patronage. The very best complement! People like you make our job a pleasure and we promise to work hard to make this a great place to stay and soak up Santa Barbara's healthy energy!
