Description from owner
Description
LL podere San Francesco, called "Il Roccone" i.e. ' big rock ' because located on a huge Rocky relief, is a stone farmhouse located on the southern slopes of Monte Amiata. Built in 1859 and completely restored in 2010, using only natural materials while respecting the traditions and local buildings. The property occupies an area of over 100 hectares, much of which lies within the Pigelleto nature reserve, which covers a total area of approximately 800 hectares. The structure is about to be completed and open to the public.
The Roccone is the ideal place for nature lovers. The forest surrounding the House is full of life, wild life, not at all tamed by any contact with humans. A stay at the Roccone is an immersion in unspoiled nature full-blown; Here you do not hear other sounds and noises that those of silvestre. The Roccone has all modern facilities but were deliberately excluded, in the restoration, those "convenience" which in our opinion actually turn away from contact with nature, and in particular with the air of the Woods and with a wind home page. Then the Roccone will not find air conditioning, because the cool in summer is obtained from the shade of the chestnut trees and the thickness of the stone walls.
You will find here one of the most ancient forests of Italy, well known by the Etruscans and Romans that here were the best barrels (the Pigellum, i.e. the rare white FIR), perfectly straight, into the trees of their ships. The Roccone farm is completely immersed in nature, surrounded by forests and protected forests are inhabited by a large number of wild animals that often they show even a few metres away. The farm offers hospitality to groups of up to 14 people is more, has within it a consecrated Chapel and a large multifunctional room that can be used as a gym or seminar room, thanks to the video projection system.
The Roccone is the ideal place to visit the Tuscany of the South, and in particular the city and the province of Siena and Grosseto, Umbria and northern Lazio. There are countless places of interest from the point of view of historical, artistic, naturalistic, but also food and culinary craft a short drive away.
The Roccone is perfectly habitable all year, being equipped with an innovative heating system that uses only the energy of the Sun and that of firewood, provided in abundance by the surrounding forests. The presence of the Chapel and the great wood-fired oven made of local stone makes the Roccone an ideal venue for a wedding, for a ceremony, private parties and banquets.
