Description

This elegantly comfortable three bedroom lighthouse cottage is in a magnificent coastal setting inside the historic landmark Aberdeen Girdleness Lighthouse compound. You will stay in the original Principal Lighthouse Keeper's cottage built in 1833 with many period features including working window shutters. Even the brass door hinges are originals and stamped NL (Northern Lighthouse).

The neighbouring working 130 foot high Lighthouse tower is only a few steps away across the shared courtyard.

The property has a Visit Scotland 4 star accreditation and is one of three properties available to rent all listed separately on the website.

The coastal location is outstanding on a headland south of Aberdeen harbour and unmistakably prominent when arriving in Aberdeen by air, train or ferry. Only a ten minute drive to the centre of Aberdeen and also convenient for Altens and Tullos business areas.The surrounding area is a true natural beauty spot with the dramatic coastline forming part of the District Wildlife Site. The cliffs attract a wide range of wild birds. The nearby mouth of Aberdeen harbour is one of the best places in Europe to watch dolphins playing and feeding.

And yet .... Aberdeen railway station (direct trains to Edinburgh, Glasgow, York and London) and Aberdeen city centre with restaurants, shopping, bars, theatres and cinemas are only two miles away. Balnagask public golf links is in walking distance and shares the headland with the lighthouse. It has 18 and 9 hole courses and pitch and putt.

The property has been professionally interior designed and is equipped with TV with Sky channels, DVD, WiFi, fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, laundry, fridge freezer and premium capsule coffee machine. All linen and bedding is included.

Accommodation is arranged across a single (ground) floor: Hallway, sitting room with wood-burning stove (fuel provided), dining kitchen, two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom, bathroom with separate shower, Large walled grassed area (1 acre).

Getting around

Most of our guests have a car and there is plenty of parking available on site. The nearest bus stop is a 15 minute walk away. The city centre is two miles away. Aberdeen International Airport is about 10 miles away and a 25 minute drive. Aberdeen railway station is about 2 miles away and has direct trains to London, Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as local services.

Guests will be met ususally by one of the owners who live in the city. We provide a welcome pack of milk, eggs, bread and cheese etc as well as tea and coffee to ensure you can relax when you arrive.
