Description from owner

Description

We look forward to welcoming you for this new season 2022

Estuary View is on a site of about 80 chalets and bungalows set in 40 acres of sloping woodland within the SNOWDONIA NATIONAL PARK.. It has one of the best positions, facing south and looking out over the lovely Dovey Estuary towards the mountains beyond. The track up to all the chalets on this site is steep, winding and very rough in places so it is necessary to drive with care, but when you get up to the chalet you are rewarded with wonderful views. We advise a 4x4 vehicle due to the road condition. If you are concerned about the road you might like to send me a booking enquiry before booking your stay.

If you put out birdfood a wonderful variety of birds will visit the terrace, and badgers often come at dusk if you encourage them with peanuts. It is quiet. with few vehicles passing by.

This small but charming cedar chalet sleeps four people in basic comfort. The accommodation is on one floor and consists of a double bedroom and a twin room (3ft beds). There is a family shower room with wash basin and loo and off the twin room is a small ensuite comprising a WC, wash basin and small bath. There are extractor fans and wall heaters in both wash rooms.

The living area is open plan. There is a sofa and chair, colour TV with DVD/CD player. At the dining end there is a folding table with four chairs; patio doors open onto a small terrace with a picnic table. The views from the dining and picnic tables are stunning, and it is very peaceful. There is a 3ft drop onto grass from the terrace, so little ones need to be watched especially on the steps.

The open plan kitchen looks onto woodland at the back. it is fitted with full-sized electric cooker, fridge and microwave and well supplied with crockery, cutlery, pans etc.

There are plenty of electric heaters for the chilly days - electricity is from a £1 coin meter. The beds are fitted with electric blankets. All bed linen, towels are provided.

Water is from the site's private mountain source and is sterilised at the chalet by a UV treatment unit. At times the site water fails the Local Authority drinking suitability tests and we warn guests not to drink it. At all times we provide fresh drinking water in bottles for consumption, whether or not the water is passed as fit for drinking by the Local Authority. The Local Authority has never said the water should not be used for showering etc.

The property is not specifically geared for children under five but lots of parents have found it fine.

Please note Estuary View is for non- smokers only.

There's plenty to do in the area and good co-op supermarkets within 7 miles. The delightful resort of Aberdovey is only 2.5 miles away. If you enjoy train journeys the Cambrian Line is a real treat - choose from Barmouth, Aberystwyth, Shrewsbury, Harlech ........so many wonderful destinations! At Tywyn, about seven miles away, you can pick up the Talyllyn narrow gauge steam train for a trip into the mountains, and several other steam railways are within easy reach for a day out.

Although the chalet can be used at any time of year it is not insulated and in chilly weather requires heating whenever you are in it. The short access road is steep and winding and the surface is poor, so we do not normally let out the chalet over winter. If you are hardy and relaxed about possibly difficult driving conditions and would like a winter let contact us.

You will need a car to access Estuary View. It is about 2.5 miles to Aberdovey and 7 miles to Machynlleth and Tywyn. Parking is adjacent to the property.

Please use the recycling bins provide.

Guests must pay for a minimum of three nights even if they only intend to stay for two. If only two nights are available on the calendar send me a message and I'll fit you in if I can

Response from the owner We're very sorry you had to do some cobweb removal. We do provide contact details in our guide for cleaning issues and would have preferred you use that route. It would have given us the opportunity to fix any issue during your stay rather than us hear about it in a review. We also spoke on the phone during your stay and it wasn't mentioned. We really hope this has not been a negative experience and hopefully look forward to welcoming you at a future time.

“Fantastic location”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2022

I spent a few days at Estuary View with my boys and it was such a perfect break we really didn’t want to leave. The chalet has probably the best views of the whole area, over the Dyfi estuary towards Powys. Everything about the chalet suited us perfectly, large picture windows, wood panelling, two bathrooms and a decent kitchen. The driveway is a 4x4 enthusiast’s dream, similar to gatescarth pass or the north face of Tryfan however the Asda delivery truck manages it ok. Highly recommended.

Response from the owner Thank you for your review. I am so pleased you and your son's had such a lovely stay. I totally agree that the chalet has the best views and they change all the time depending on the weather and time of the day.I hope to welcome you again. Best wishes Mandy

“A Peaceful Retreat”

Reviewed 10 Oct 2021

We had such a lovely time staying in Estuary View. This holiday home really is all about the views, the cabin has one of the best locations on this small site set on a hillside, dotted with cabins on different levels. The cabin is filled with light with nice big windows along one wall and patio doors at the end, both of which have Estuary views. It is a lovely, relaxing environment. We were greeted with a welcome pack, which was really appreciated and is always a nice touch, thank you. The double bed was very comfy and it was lovely to enjoy a shower, as this is something we don't have at home! There is a great walk to be had, directly accessed from the back of one of the cabins which takes you to Bearded Lake and Happy Valley, which is a glorious walk and on to Aberdovey. Mandy, the owner was extremely prompt and friendly with all communications. We only had 4 nights in the cabin, but left refreshed and happy, a wonderful stay.

“Peace and Tranquility”

Reviewed 19 Sep 2021

My husband and I were looking for somewhere to relax and recharge with our pet cat Bubbles and were drawn to Estuary View by the photos.... So we checked that cats are accepted and booked! We have just returned from the most fabulous week. The chalet was like a really homely log cabin up on the hillside with uninterrupted views of the estuary at Aberdovey. The picnic table provided the most tranquil spot for my writing - with just the sound of birdsong and insects buzzing under a blue September sky and bright sunshine. As the day wore on, I took the wicker outside chair to follow the last rays of sunshine and sat on the grass by the wildflower meadow - a few yards from the front of the chalet, where I read, with a beautiful view of the sea stretching out across the end of the estuary. The road to the chalet is definitely very pot holey, as is explained in the advert, but as long as you take the drive up and down extremely carefully it shouldn't pose too much of a problem. My husband persuaded me that we should walk down and back up the access road for part of our holiday walking (excellent for the calf muscles and a reminder I need to get fitter!) Bubbles the cat enjoyed sitting, looking out of the floor to ceiling patio doors watching the birds and 'made friends' with the cat from the chalet across the way when it came to sit on our patio and they had a good long look at each other! The chalet is very well kitted out with warm bedding and plenty of towels, plus kitchen equipment and soaps. We thought it really kind that there was a pint of milk, real bitter, and eggs and bread there for us when we arrived. For trips out, Aberdovey is about five to ten minutes away to the north by car with Twywn, Fairbourne and Barmouth interspersed along the coast. We discovered an ancient church just off the coast road near Fairbourne. There are steam railways and the Osprey Project nearby, and we spent a lovely day at Borth which is about 20 to 30 minutes away to the south on the other side of the estuary. We were so lucky with the weather, which was sunshine and 20 degrees - not bad for mid September! On the one day it did rain, the valley looked mysterious and atmospheric in the mist across the estuary and we tucked ourselves up in the chalet for the day enjoying the tap tap of rain on the roof, and taking a short walk when the weather cleared. I've not long had an eye operation and am still struggling with complications. As a writer, much of my work involves hours at a computer screen - and the week at Estuary View with no WiFi and no computer allowed me to really rest my eyes and enjoy switching off - with time for myself and the inspiration for a number of new poems drafted by hand and all inspired by the locality. My husband and I, and Bubbles would definitely recommend booking Estuary View for a holiday away from any hustle and bustle, where you can be around nature, but with lots of home comforts and can completely relax....
