Description from owner

Description

Visiting Aberlour Bolthole feels like having a break at your family's Highland countryside home. It's the perfect base for fishing, shooting, touring, relaxing and of course, exploring the Malt Whisky Trail - with the Aberlour Distillery just 500 yards down the road and the Macallan Distillery across the River Spey at the back of the cottages.

The location perfectly balances the peaceful setting behind private gardens and the convenience of having all the amenities of the vibrant Highland village Aberlour on your doorstep.

Park the car and relax away from the hustle and bustle of life, pop to the Café at the end of the garden, or amble around the corner to the well-reputed ‘Mash Tun’ (one of 5 excellent local eateries/bars), and enjoy a wee dram and good food. Browse the gift shops and the gallery, sample some famous Joseph Walker Shortbread made right here in the village. Anglers might stroll across the Alice Litter Park for some fly fishing on the Spey (Great value day and week permits are available in the village). This truly is somewhere to relax and take things easy; everything you need is here.

50 distilleries, castles, fishing, walking, golf, skiing, water sports, beaches - all within a 10-40 min drive.

Changeovers are Fridays. Check Aberlourcottages COMe for best rates.

Response from the owner Dear Wanda, thank you for taking the time to send us some feedback on your stay at the Bolthole. I'm sorry if you found the traditional furnishings and the garden access to our country cottage differ from those you'd be used to fro typical Californian home. Most of our guests love using the garden and enjoy the stroll along the 20m long garden path from the High Street to the front door (the parking situation doesn't change with the seasons). We thought that the appliances in the house are very straight-forward and self-explanatory and would have been delighted to answer any questions you may have had if you had got in touch. We will look into getting black out blinds for all those that struggle with sleeping when we have those long midsummer days.

“Great for those who love stairs!”

Reviewed 19 Apr 2018

The Bolthole is very comfortable once inside. Getting there was difficult for these two seniors! Parking on the High Street and dragging luggage through the gate and down through a muddy trail to the front door was impossible. Driving down the back lane is difficult too with no parking. This meant pulling our cases through deep gravel in the lane. A helpful neighbor assisted me. There were no instuctions about the house once inside as most rentals have. We loved the supplies such as shampoo, coffee filters and condiments! We had to leave one day earlier than originally planned and while I informed the owner of this months in advance, the full price was still taken from my credit card. This was very disappointing.

Response from the owner Dear Jean, thank you for leaving your feedback. I am sorry that you found the access to the cottage troublesome. As the the previous occupants and the current neighbors have never commented on problems with getting their bags and shopping home despite being well into retirement age, we had not been aware that access could be challenging for some. Regrading refunds, we can unfortunately only refund when we are able to re-let the days that are cancelled which was not the case on this occasion. However, we are glad that you were comfortable and able to enjoy your stay in the cottage. While we cannot change the location of the cottage, we would be delighted to assists anyone who anticipates problems with carrying their bags into the cottage.
