Description from owner

Description

We offer a homely character stone cottage with gorgeous valley and mountain views! With fresh linen and towels provided, there is an original fireplace with fuel for your first night provided, and a lovely covered decking area outside with table and chairs, to drink coffee whilst admiring the mountain views.

There is a private natural garden with terrace, lights through the garden for evening use, and access to a tumbling stream where you may see a heron fishing!

With a range cooker and butler sink, the cottage can happily cater for four people. There are 4 beds in two rooms: one larger room in a super king or twin layout, and an additional two beds in the bunk room which caters for adults or children. Electricity and gas is included, and from 100% renewable and carbon offset sources.

Please note, to allow for a peaceful holiday there is no wi-fi, although a good 4G signal is available on most networks.

There is a good pub with a very warm welcome within short walking distance of the cottage, called the Manod Hotel; it is dog friendly and has free Wi-Fi. A little further but still within walking distance, tasty food to be had at CellB, the Meirion, De Niros, Ty Gorsaf (The Station House), a great Indian restaurant and more.

Blaenau Ffestiniog with all its history, is central to the whole of Snowdonia with a bewildering variety of activities and places to visit, all within an easy drive. After a hard day enjoying yourself, refreshments can be had just 2 minutes' walk up the road in The Manod Hotel (really a friendly pub!) serving drinks, coffee, snacks and more, including a real ale or two! Other places in Blaenau serve food, including the Meirion, Ty Gorsaf (the station house) and a quality Indian restaurant.

The town itself is home to the Ffestiniog Railway and the Llechwedd Slate Caverns. It has a supermarket, pubs, cafes, takeaways and a number of other useful shops.

There are many attractions to enjoy - soft sandy beaches from the smallest coves to sweeping bays; majestic lush valleys, and estuaries where you may spot an osprey fishing; many romantic and historic castles; the craftwork of woollen mills and potteries; copper and slate mines with dramatic tours; towns to visit include Betws-y-Coed, Beddgelert, Caernarfon, Dolgellau and the famous Italianate creation of Portmeirion!

For walkers there is such a choice. Snowdonia's mountains are world famous including the summit itself, and some with special features such as the Castle of the Wind on top of the Glyders range. The Manod Mawr trail starts virtually from the doorstep; there are local walks within a few minutes' drive, where we particularly recommend the Cwmorthin valley leading to the high Moelwyn mountains with views of Snowdon; and there is a fragment of the "Celtic rain-forest" in the rich moist valley of Cwm Cynfal.

For mountain bikers, there are four bike lock points at the rear of the house. World class mountain trails are continuously being developed by Antur Stiniog right by the side of Blaenau.

“Ty Isaf-Mountain Views”

Reviewed 29 Oct 2023

Had a great week staying at Alan’s cottage with a nice welcome from him. The cottage had everything we needed as well as the extra of terraces and garden to explore with a wonderful view. The location is ideal to carry out local walks in any direction and it does not take long to get to height in the close by mountains. We hope to return again in the future.

“Cosy cottage , central location”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2022

We wanted somewhere we could stay that would position us close to the mountains and coast so we didn't have to spend all our time in the car, this cottage is perfectly placed. Blaneau Ffestinog is never going to be the prettiest place but it has its own charms, namely the view of the mountains. The cottage itself has everything you need for a short stay, we particularly enjoyed the log fire after a day up a mountain in the driving rain. The cottage is also next to a stream/waterfall which is quite spectacular after heavy rain and there is a terrace with lights overlooking it which is pretty in the evening. Sadly , having visited in November we didn't get chance to relax with a glass of wine outside. The owner popped round to check everything was ok , he couldn't have been more pleasant and has great tips on where to visit /walk in the area. We really enjoyed our break here

“Lovely little Cottage Perfect Base Camp”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2022

Lovely location most areas of North wales and some mid wales only 45 mins max car Journey away. 15 min walk or 5 min drive to nearest shop which was a Co-op good selection. Some free from, and vegan options. The view from the covered Terrace is amazing and the sound of the running stream drowns out any other noises. Perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks, the lower Terrace is even prettier and great to chill out on. Inside the cottage is rustic and even though the road runs right past the front of the cottage you don't hear anything. The noisiest things you will hear are the creaky floorboards (didn't bother us added to the charm) or the bathroom door bit tight in its frame at the bottom to be expected in old properties, possibly expanded due to moisture from the shower. The Kitchen was small but functional, good selection of crockery and Glasses, we used it for breakfast and some dinners. Tending to Eat out at where ever we Visited, for lunch and also used the Local Chippy "Trish and Chips" a few times. (Gorgeous Chips). The Owner Alan brought fresh flowers and greeted us with a couple of local foods. He was friendly, helpful and easy to contact if needed. Helpful Information Visitors folder inside and plenty of local attraction leaflets for ideas. Parking was good but if you have a big vehicle ( I have a Nissan Navara ) best to approach and turn in from the village centre direction. also easier to see the turn in from that direction. I didn't need to use my 4 wheel drive but in the winter it would definitely be a benefit, if snowy or Icy. Will definitely be looking to stay again next year.
