Little Island House Upstairs Appartment

Bass Harbor house

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 2

“Perfect slice of Peace” The Little Island House is the perfect place to stay when you journey to Maine. It is located in Bass Harbor, which is a peaceful village where lobster fishermen and women come and go. Less than a block from the house is a place to purchase crab and live lobster which you can steam in a kitchen which has Everything you could possibly need. If you are not interested in cooking, a wharf restaurant is close by and will meet your every need. The bed and bedding were perfect. Everything was very comfortable. From your little house, you can quickly jump to other villages and acadia National Park. My favorite part was sitting on the porch watching boats come in and out of the harbor. We also took a boat trip which left from the dock near the house. We saw the part of Maine that you can only see from a boat.

The Gray Barn

Bass Harbor apartment

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 6

“Close to Nirvana” It would be difficult to find a better spot for spending a vacation than the Quietside of Mt. Desert, and the Gray Barn experience is part of the fun. The accomodations are modern and in great shape, and the windows both have a great view over upper Bass Harbor and give great air circulation. Access to cellphone and internet coverage is a convenience. The kitchen is very functional, though you'll want to visit the lobster pounds and restaurants in the area. A perfect base for hiking in acadia National Park. The week we were there was perfect for using the owner's kayaks in the upper harbor and the estuary beyond. We've stayed three different years and will be happy to return.

Classic Shingled Lakeside Cottage on Maine's Beautiful Down East Coast

Sedgwick house

6 bedrooms / 4 bathrooms / sleeps 10

“More than a vacation destination!” I'm a nature lover so I was not upset that it was pouring rain when we arrived because the brief rain brought a beautiful gift---the loons drifting out of the mist on Walker Pond. You don't have to be a nature lover to enjoy your stay at Cathy and Dan's incredible house on the lake. My husband and I were guests of our daughter's mother-in-law, and we were prepared to be delighted because she had been coming up to Kill Kare Kamp for a few years and we had heard how much she loved it. The house is cozy, spacious and comfortable with a spectacular view of the "pond" from the wraparound veranda. You can also take a trip back in time when you peruse the family photos on the walls or by reading the story of the camp in a book lovingly kept up by Cathy and Dan. The kitchen is like home where you'll want for nothing, every kitchen tool is available in the fully equipped kitchen. We kayaked, we read, we hiked, we tooled around the town, and we did nothing! We loved it!!! I hope to go back.

Edgewater waterfront 2 bedrooms 2 baths sunsets

Trenton cottage

2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 4

“Seaside Heaven...” Edgewater is amazing! Fully stocked kitchen, very comfortable beds, clean as a whistle. At waters edge. And hosts who go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. My 2 adult sisters and I stayed here a week in mid June. Mornings on the deck drinking coffee gazing out at the water, low tides spent combing the rocks for shells and such. AMAZING sunsets from the deck while enjoying a bottle of wine. Very quiet and forested, cottages here are not elbow to elbow! A quick trip to MDI and all it's sights and activities. We would not hesitate to book with Bill and Ruth again. The map that pinpoints where the cabin is, at least on this site, is not correct. It is not near Hwy 3 and the small airport, it is just West of Trenton on Union river bay, a very quick trip onto MDI. We loved being off Island, way less traffic. Get your Lobster already cooked at Trenton lobster pound, grab your wine, and have a beautiful evening on the deck. Beautiful place to stay.

“Regular Visitors Sharing Positive Experience” This is our 8th year at Highbrook House and every year gets better. We have witnessed many upgrades to the home over the years. When we walk into the home for our vacation, we are always excited to see the new changes.. We really enjoyed the new kitchen. This is the heart of the home and is "top of the line" with new appliances, pots/pans. What a difference from last year. We really enjoy the Master Suite, large with a sitting area just like the bedroom upstairs where my son and his family stay... Every year we notice new towels and bathroom furnishings so I don't have to bring anything with me. The owner is always on top of anything we need and returns calls promptly. We will be there again this year and look forward to the home, it's surroundings and the peace and quiet of the area... But... we are around the corner from the park and downtown...

Little Island House Upstairs Appartment
Best place ever

We were fortunate that someone had to cancel their reservation at the last minute as our schedule unexpectedly opened up. We spent the best week ever in the little seaside fishing village of Bass Harbor, rocked to sleep by the sound of the waves lapping on the shore and awakened by the gentle sound of the fishing boats hauling out to see at the crack of dawn, as the fog gently lifted on the harbor. We stayed in the downstairs unit of Little Island House. We barely ever saw the couple who was staying upstairs. Our host Charlene Strauss was wonderful, both discrete and accommodating and gracious. The house was immaculate. From the bedding and the thick towels to the well-equipped kitchen, the exquisite prints on the walls, the seaside wraparound porch with a direct view on the harbor, the available bbq and the beach chairs that Charlene graciously lent us, everything down to a T was spectacular in its own laid back way. Bass Harbor only gets traffic because it is the point of departure for the little ferry to Swan Island, but we neither saw nor heard any of it from the house. It is such a quiet retreat, far enough away from the crowds of Bar Harbor (30 minute car ride away) and acadia National Park, yet close enough to drive there if so inclined. There are 2 restaurants and 1 take-out place. We also discovered the Ravenswood boutique on McMullan ave, which is definitely worth a visit. The elderly owners, Joe and anne Paradise, who carve birds and sell treasures old and new, are delightful and the new carving of the Yellow Leg that we purchased there reminds me of our wonderful week in Bass Harbor. Crowd lovers please abstain! Thank you Charlene! We hope to come back soon.see more
The Gray Barn
We are returning for more - what better recommendation can we gi

We had been somewhat spoiled when we arrived at the Gray Barn since we had just spent a week on an island off of NorthEast Harbor in a friend's house. Yet the Gray Barn was no let down - we loved the quiet comfort, the beautiful views and our proximity to some great hiking. The house is well furnished, with all the amenities we could possibly need, including, surprisingly, internet access. Jonathan was a welcoming host and gave us just the right level of introduction to Bass Harbor. We are looking forward to returning in 2013.see more
