Log Cabin in the Best Town on Mt. Desert Island

Southwest Harbor log cabin

3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“This is very clean, well-accomodated, and in a great location!” Our family just returned from a week in this great cabin. We wanted to be very close to acadia National Park, but not in a busy area. The location was perfect for this. The cabin is within walking distance of a small town with great restaurants and stores, and a very short drive (some 5 minutes, some 10 minutes, some 15 minutes) to all the sights of the national park. And when you return to the cabin you experience its quiet and natural setting at its best. It was rejuvenating to be there. The owners have obviously taken a lot of time and effort to make their home user-friendly. It comes equipped with everything you need for cooking and relaxing. Everything is clean and cared for, and the entire cabin has a cozy yet spacious feel to it. Very highly recommended!

“quiet, relaxed and restful, but fun” The location on the quiet side of the island was great. Fun to visit the lobster house, and car museum. Close enough for access to national park, Bar Harbour and nearby attractions. Acadia is obviously unique and beautiful. Location provides good privacy with good access.

“Great week at Seaside Cottage” Everything was wonderful. The house is very comfortable, plenty of room for our family of 5 (3 kids ages 5, 10, 12). The kids loved spending time exploring the cove. Only thing that could have been added would have been a dvd player (kids would have liked to watch a movie in the evening). There were plenty of family games availabe, though, along with the ping pong table. The location is very calm and peaceful, but be aware that to get to anything you will need to drive (we added a couple of hundred miles to our car driving to Bar Harbor, various trails in acadia, etc.). Despite this, we would return to this house if we ever travel to this area again.

“Beachcomber's Paradise” Blue Heron Tide was a wonderful set up for our large family (7 adults and one toddler). We all fit very comfortably, with some folks getting up early to walk the beach and others staying up late to play cards. The space is nice enough to feel like you are on a nice vacation and not so nice that you fear for a toddler touching everything. The beach access is also amazing. We had a few beachcombers in the group, and they never tired of finding shells and sea glass on the beach. This is a truly special spot.

Cliffside at Sandcliff by the Sea

Bar Harbor house

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 6

“We had a great vacation experience at Cliffside..” We had a marvelous time during our stay at Cliffside and thoroughly enjoyed our trip and the use of this beautiful home with our friends. It was a great location-close to the park and town, but nestled amongst the trees for relaxing privacy. We saw deer behind the house several mornings and took some great pictures of a hawk perched in the tree just beyond our deck. The trails behind the house and Sand Point Road were convenient for morning hiking and jogging. Several mornings we enjoyed our coffee on the decks with their peaceful views of the bay. This lovely home provided a great base for visiting Bar Harbor and acadia- whale watching, visits to Cadillac Mountain, Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and the Thuya Gardens. We hiked around Jordan Pond and enjoyed the tea and popovers, visited Schoodic Peninsula, and took a carriage tour of the bridges. We really appreciated Bonnie's suggestions for dining and activities to enjoy, and everything went very smoothly from beginning to end. The weather was great and we had a wonderful time.

The Gray Barn

Bass Harbor apartment

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 6

“Close to Nirvana” It would be difficult to find a better spot for spending a vacation than the Quietside of Mt. Desert, and the Gray Barn experience is part of the fun. The accomodations are modern and in great shape, and the windows both have a great view over upper Bass Harbor and give great air circulation. Access to cellphone and internet coverage is a convenience. The kitchen is very functional, though you'll want to visit the lobster pounds and restaurants in the area. A perfect base for hiking in acadia National Park. The week we were there was perfect for using the owner's kayaks in the upper harbor and the estuary beyond. We've stayed three different years and will be happy to return.

Hot Tub! AIR CONDITIONING! Fire Pit! Views of Somes Sound & Acadia National Park

Mount Desert cottage

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 7

“Absolutely fantastic!” We had a fantastic stay at The acadia. We were probably some of the first tourists of the season (mid april) and it was pretty chilly, so the hot tub was a very welcome amenity. The owners were wonderful, taking the time to show us around upon arrival and even brought over a new grill right away when we realized the original wasn't working. The cottage was just the right size for four people--cozy but comfortable. Everything was very clean and the views were beautiful. We cooked our own lobster and ate out on the deck on night. Another night we had a fire in the fire pit and drank wine and roasted marsh-mellows. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone heading to acadia.

Lito Lodge - Oceanfront near Acadia

Lamoine house

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 7

“Perfect get-away home.” You can't beat a quiet morning cup of coffee on the deck overlooking the bay and watching the lobstermen hauling in their traps. The beautiful starry night skies are also an amazing sight. This spacious lodge had more amenities than we dreamed of. Peaceful and secluded with a gorgeous view but close to many antique shops, Acadia N.P., Bar Harbor, places to buy lobsters, and other attractions. Something for everyone! We often saw Bald Eagles on our way down the long driveway. On the morning that we had to leave, I stood on the deck gazing across the water, and was joined 1 by 1 by each member of our family, each of us having the same thought- we did not want to leave! We would highly recommend this rental and hope to return some day!

Anchorage - Harborfront in Southwest Harbor
A relaxing family vacation!

Anchorage is a wonderful, comfortable home perfect for a family vacation. As a "family of foodies," we appreciated the well supplied kitchen - cookware, bakeware, tableware, and plenty of tools and widgets to have fun creating meals with local lobster (and other seafood), blueberries, and farmers' market goodies. The dining room shelves stocked with books and games were a huge hit with our family. An upstairs bedroom with two twin beds was so perfect for our boys, they didn't even fuss about bedtime. The house is simply wonderful. One complaint - just one, but because it was at the very end of our stay, it continues to grate on me. After we returned home, we were contacted by the management company, who told us that the housekeeper reported to the owner that the house "smelled like we smoked there." We were flabbergasted... we rented this home because it was strictly nonsmoking, just like our family! Not only did we obviously not smoke in the home, we took great care to leave the house clean upon our departure. The management company had the good grace to at least sound embarrassed when we mentioned that we treated our boys to pancakes and bacon a few hours before we departed, and that is all the housekeeper could possibly have smelled. We weren't billed for smoke or anything, so big picture, this is a minor complaint after a lovely vacation. It's just that, after paying a solid rental fee and taking good care of the property, we didn't really feel welcome after being questioned.see more

Best Vacation ever! Five Glowing Stars!

For our 40th anniversary we decided to take our 2 daughters & their families to acadia. After looking at dozens of homes, I discovered this one that sounded perfect. We were surprised at how spacious, open, and airy it was inside. The house was lovely, clean & comfortable with much thought put into details. We mostly ate in, rather that take the littles out to dinner; the kitchen was well equipped with plenty of room to work. We also used the gas grill. We left the cottage before 9 each morning, and drove to our daily destinations: Swimming at Echo Lake. Bike Riding around Witch Hole Pond and Eagle Lake. Picking Blueberries. Driving Park Loop Road & up Cadillac Mt. Bar Harbor with a walk to Bar Island at low tide. Walked the Shore Walk. Spent an am in Northeast Harbor & Thuya Gardens and an am in Southwest Harbor where we got fresh blueberry pie at the Quietside Cafe. We would then come back mid afternoon to put the littles in for naps. This was the time we adults could rest, read on the screened in porch, walk along the beach, or ride bike locally. The Cove is beautiful, and ever changing. Beachcombing was a big hit with all of us! After dinner in the evening, we went to places close by: Wonderland Trail, Twice to the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. And even one evening to the local school playground for the kids. We had the privilige of meeting the owners who were staying near by. One day Peter installed a DVD which we used in the evenings. Another time a screen blew off & he immediately replaced it. Coming from hot, muggy pa in august, we weren't sure about not having aC. We never needed it. There is always a wonderful breeze coming off the cove, the house was always cool & some nights actually got cold and we had to close windows. From the quiet, peaceful mornings, to the dazzling sunsets...and everything in between, Acadia & this cottage are truly magical! We would recommend this property to anyone & we hope to come back again some day.see more
Cedarledge Cottage at Seaside Cottages, waterfront, Acadia - "quiet" side of MDI
Perfect!

My mother and I recently rented this darling 2-bedroom cottage for our girls' trip to Mount Desert Island, Maine. It was exactly what we were looking for! Quiet, semi-private, on a peaceful, secluded granite ledge overlooking gorgeous water. Very comfortable, fantastic views, and well-appointed on the inside (it had everything we needed, including a spacious bathroom and all the kitchen gear we could desire). We loved the brief walk down the path to the beach and spent hours enjoying the water and the view while exploring the shore or sitting on the granite ledge. (We saw seals and a sea otter!) Kathy was very responsive to any questions or concerns that we had (which were minimal/normal). Cedarledge Cottage was also a great center of operations for us on the quiet side of the island, away from tourist bustle, while we explored the surrounding areas during the day -- a quick and easy drive to the best spots in acadia National Park, including things like Cadillac Mountain and Schoodic Peninsula. And our favorite lobster pound, Thurston's, less than 10 minutes away. All in all, we loved this cottage and look forward to returning. Thank you, Kathy and Jay!see more
Log Cabin in the Best Town on Mt. Desert Island
Comfortable home in a peaceful location

This was the first time our family visited Maine and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The cabin is located in a lovely, private, quiet area. When we inquired about the availability of the cabin the owners, Mike and Dee, responded in a timely fashion. They were kind and considerate. This is evident in the details and care they have taken with their home. The kitchen was so well equipped, we could try our hand at everything from baking popovers to cooking a lobster dinner. The proximity to Echo Lake and the short drive to the hiking trails made the cabin's location all the more convenient. Our kids loved the rope hammock on the deck and we all loved walking to Little Notch bakery in the morning for fresh baked goods and wild blueberry pie! The owners also had a large portfolio filled with recommendations for area restaurants and places to visit. This was really helpful for getting to know the area. We hope to stay here again very soon.see more

Perfect Getaway!

We stayed at this cottage for one glorious week in October. Found it on the internet and it exceeded our expectation. Kathy is very personable and easy to work with. The cottage is very well maintained/clean and very well stocked. It is very comfortable and cozy. The proximity to sights and necessities is perfect. It is refreshing to go home to the "quiet side" of the island after a day of sightseeing/.hiking and to be close to that home. The pictures are a very good representation of what you get, we were fortunate to have sun everyday and a full moon by night. Highly recommended!see more

Comfortable, relaxing and even better than the internet pictures. Location to die for.

Hi Joy, We have now returned home and I wanted to thank you for letting us stay in your fantastic holiday home. The location is just perfect and I couldn't wait to wake in the morning to see the view from the bedroom window. The house itself is so well planned and appointed with everything to make a holiday trouble free and relaxing. Our family reunion was doubly memorable because of the amazing surroundings and property. Acadia is certainly a stunning destination and we enjoyed it during a quiet time which suited us perfectly. I really did not want to leave and would really have liked to extend our trip for a lot longer. Thank you. Kind regards Julietsee more
