“Good food, good wine and great place!” There were 10 adults and 4 young children in our party but we took the whole place to give us some extra room. Worked out really well with the two young families in the two cottages and we used the main house for all the cooking and drinking!! Great having the seperate places and a table big enough for us all to eat at. Kitchen was well stocked. Slightly bigger bbq wouldn't hurt. It was fine for us but might have stuggled if at full capacity. Pool was great, nice and secure despite my nephew's best efforts. Loads of bikes on site for pottering about and trips to the local village for bread as well as the horse and carriage which was a hit. Ted and Jo were really nice. Very welcoming and went out of their way to make sure we had a good time. Ted took a couple of us mountain biking which was great...if not a bit hard to keep up!! Amazing food market in the local village on a wednesday and lots of other bits to do in the area...or just chill out by the pool. positives: Whole place! Big table and kitchen pool Jo and Ted! “Relaxing stay in the French countryside.” I would highly recommend Castelwood to anyone who enjoys the French countryside. The cabins are spotless, and comfortable, and the proprietors could not be nicer. The cabins are simple, but with added amenities such as a dishwasher, showers with great water pressure, and even heat for the occasional cold night. Maaike and Ian are extremely knowledgeable about the area, and can certainly suggest the best places to visit and things to do. And there is plenty to do. This is a great area of France for those who love history, many splendid castles, the one in Biron is a pleasant amble down a lovely country road. Then there are the lovely ancient walled villages, the village markets. and the vineyards to visit. The roads are quiet and easy to drive. The scenery is splendid. Not to forget the delights of French food. Since the cabins have well equipped kitchens, eating in or out at one of the superb local restaurants are equal options. Castelwood is not far from the airport in Bergerac, so it is also in a location that is quite easy to access. Castelwood was for us, a simple, relaxing rural experience with a warm and friendly feeling.
