In the foothills of the Pyrenees south of Carcassonne, the village is surrounded by orchards of apples and pears, wildflower meadows and woods. A rural retreat yet access is easy, less than an hour from Carcassonne airport, about an hour and a half from Toulouse; Perpignan, Beziers and Montpelllier just a bit further. Chalabre is our nearest town, 3kms, it's medieval centre has a fabulous boulangerie and a couple of bars and cafes. Mirepoix is 14kms, the best market in the region, boutique shopping, and dozens of cafes and bars,
Explore prehistoric cave paintings and ruined Cathar chateaux - Puivert, Montsegur, Puillarans, Perypertuse, Foix and the fairy tale citadel of Carcassonne are all close. A great base for walking and cycling, many routes and quiet roads lead from the door. Cycle Languedoc through vineyards, fields of sunflowers and medieval towns and villages. We offer cyclist friendly accommodation, bikes can be hired locally from 15 euros per day. You'll find local farmer's markets every day of the week, the night market in Puivert during the summer offers a lovely evening by the lake - listen to jazz and barbeque your bounty from the market.
