Description from owner

Description

Situated in the East Neuk of Fife in the pretty conservation village of Crail. Only 15 minutes by car to St Andrews, Beach House Walk is a beautifully presented and comfortable 2 bedroom semi detached villa just 2 minutes walk from Roome Bay beach and 15 minutes walk to Balcomie Links Golf course.

From this wonderful location, one has immediate access to The Fife Coastal Path walking route, which boasts some of Scotland's finest coastal walks. Whether you're arranging a golf trip, weekend break, or family vacation, Beach House Walk is the perfect location to stay, play and relax.

FREE BIKE HIRE IS INCLUDED WITHIN THE COST OF YOUR STAY AT BEACH HOUSE WALK.

Crail is the oldest burgh in the East Neuk with its old traditional cottages by the working harbour and cobbled streets. Down by the harbour is a great spot to sample some of the freshest prawns, lobster and crab straight from the boats. The harbour offers the ultimate in picturesque, coastal village beauty, and an ideal setting in which to unwind and take in a peaceful, romantic evening walk.

Crail has a comely air, with its handsome merchant houses, tranquil streets and picture-book harbour, around which ancient stone walls curl protectively, embracing the boats that shelter there.

The property offers one spacious double room, one twin room, main bathroom, lounge, and kitchen/diner.

The Beach House kitchen is fully fitted with contemporary, top range facilities, ensuring that the timeless charm of Crail is tempered by the Beach House's state of the art facilities. The kitchen is fully fitted with hob, oven, fridge freezer and washing machine. The Beach House also boasts a beautifully modern, recently refurbished bathroom.

The house has been tastefully decorated with a seashore theme and many little extras to make your stay more comfortable, such as games, books and DVDs.

(Crail and the East Neuk have a surprisingly extensive history of featuring on the big screen, and the DVD collection at the Beach House reflects this. Snuggle down for an evening movie and embrace the charms of Crail even from the sofa.)

There is a large garden to the rear, which is fully enclosed and overlooks the open countryside. The garden is completed with contemporary outdoor furniture, enabling one to relax and dine alfresco after a busy day of sightseeing.

To the front of the property there is garden area and private driveway, with designated car parking space to accommodate one car.

There is a handy single garage which you are welcome to use for storage etc. In the garage there are 8 bicycles (4 adult sized, & 4 child sized), fishing rods, nets, beach towels, beach toys, golf clubs, and wellies for you to use at no extra charge.

All towels and linens are provided and the property is cleaned prior to your arrival and on your departure. The beds will be made up for your arrival.

Our guests love the convenient location of the house as the idyllic harbour, quaint shops, and beach with its breathtaking vistas are all a short walk away via the path directly from the garden gate.

For Cycling Holidays:

Beach House Walk is a great location for your cycling holidays, situated close to some fantastic bike trails. There's no need to bring your bikes as there is a selection of bikes provided for your use at the property, together with helmets - all of which is included in the cost of your stay! We particularly recommend the Crail to Kingsbarns cycle path, with a starting point just minutes from the house and offering safe, quiet country roads for all the family to enjoy the peaceful, tranquil area of the East Neuk of Fife.

For Golfing Holidays:

There are 30 golf courses to choose from within 15 miles of Crail. There are 4 links golf courses all within a 15 minute drive. Balcomie Links and Craighead Links are virtually on the Beach House doorstep, and combine spectacular coastal views and extraordinary holes to provide challenging and enjoyable golf. Kingsbarn Golf Links is just 3 miles distant, and also enjoys the stunning North Sea coastline where each hole embraces the sea. The home of Golf at St Andrews is only 10 miles away: the largest, most iconic public golf complex in Europe, with seven golf courses to choose from: the Old Course, New Course, Jubilee Course, Eden Course, Strathtyrum Course, and the Balgove Course.

For Beach Holidays:

The sheltered and secluded area of Crail is said to be the one of the driest parts in Scotland, and therefore makes it an excellent choice for an ideal beach holiday. You are spoilt for choice with 17 excellent blue flag beaches to choose from in Fife. Roome Bay Beach is a mere 2 minute walk away, with many rock pools to explore and a children's play area. The coastline is part of the internationally recognised Firth of Forth Ramsar site, dedicated to conservation and protection of wetland habitats and the species which live and feed in these areas. Therefore, Crail and the surrounding coastline is a great area for bird watching at any time of the year. Elie Beach is 5 miles from Crail, and is one of Scotland's blue flag beaches, offering a wonderful walk of almost one mile of uninterrupted sand.

There is an excellent sailing club, and a water sports facility where you can hire equipment or head out on an inflatable adventure trip. Kingsbarns Beach is just 2 miles away. This charming blue flag beach stretches for about 2 miles and is bordered by rolling sand dunes. It's a very popular beach for walkers and the Fife Coastal Footpath passes above it. There is plenty of space on the beach for all the family and it is an ideal spot for a picnic. Kingbarns Golf Links, undeniably one of the finest courses in Scotland, runs alongside the beach.

Wildlife & Nature Spotting Holidays:

Animal & nature lovers will enjoy visiting the Isle of May where there are puffins, crags, seals and an abundance of wildlife. Fifeness Muir Wildlife reserve just outside Crail is where visitors can enjoy the fascinating spectacle of bird migration.

During the spring and autumn periods of migration, numerous small paths allow visitors to move quietly round the reserve - or better still, strategically placed seats allow observers to watch birds undisturbed. Approaching 150 species of birds have been seen from the reserve, including 17 species of warbler. During spring and autumn, recording is carried out on a daily basis, and the reserve is now a ringing station, with permanent traps similar to those on the Isle of May.

Birds have been recorded travelling to and from 14 different European countries from this part of the East Neuk. A log is maintained in the hut on the reserve, and the latest migratory news is posted on a display board. Visitors are welcome at all times, and the ringing station is run in a way that permits bird watchers to consistently enjoy the freedom of the reserve. Flowering shrubs have been planted, and the reserve is an excellent place for looking at the migrant butterflies it also attracts.

There is a good breeding population of birds, but during the breeding season many of the small paths are allowed to grow over to reduce disturbance.

Getting around

The No. 95 Stagecoach bus service was, in 2018, nominated 'Most Scenic Bus Route' in the UK. The bus provides a regular service between the fishing villages along the East Neuk coastline, with frequent stops at Saint Andrews bus station. The East Neuk roads echo the area's past; they are narrow, but reflective of the sleepy nature of the area, and as such are quiet and not prone to high levels of traffic. They can be navigated with ease by car but are also ideal for seasoned, and less well seasoned, cyclists.

Interaction with guest

Kirsty is an experienced tourism consultant working actively in the Hospitality Sector for over 25 years. "I have holidayed in the East Neuk of Fife for over 40 years. My ancestors are from Kingsbarns. I have very many happy memories of my holidays here, and being a mum with 3 boys, I have had lots of fun holidaying with them, showing them all the wonderful sights and places that Fife has to offer. I have also worked with Fife Council, and with the many businesses and companies in the area. I purchased Beach House Walk in 2015, and dedicated a lot of time and love to the project to have it completely refurbished to a modern and comfortable standard; not just for my own family, but for other guests to enjoy." - Kirsty Weir

“Very friendly locals who helped me step back into the past, to when my father lived in Crail.”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2024

A very comfortable home and we had everything we needed. It was lovely to be able to walk, easily, to the beach and the sun shone. Looking out of the kitchen window as the sun set, was magical.
