Description

Garden Cottage a stylish self-catering holiday cottage in the Scottish Borders that has recently been rebuilt to create a contemporary interior within a traditional exterior. It is located at the West Gate of the grounds of Wedderburn Castle in Berwickshire. The self-catering rental offers the privacy and quiet of the countryside, along with the convenience of being close to the pretty market town of Duns. Garden Cottage is also situated within easy driving distance of a number of historical towns and sites including Berwick-upon-Tweed, Edinburgh, Holy Island, Alnwick Castle, Floors Castle, Mellerstain, Manderston, Chillingham Castle and many of the Borders abbeys.

Other nearby attractions in the area include stunning beaches such as Coldingham and Bamburgh, fishing on the Tweed and Whiteadder, a choice of marked cycle routes and golf on a selection of local courses. There is also a golf driving range and children's soft play area within easy walking distance.

Further details

High chair and travel cot available if requested in advance. All towels, bathrobes and linen and complimentary toiletries included. 24-hour central heading and hot water included in the price.

Further details indoors

Garden Cottage is a stylish holiday property for two people. The comfortable sitting room has a huge stone fireplace as its focal point, complete with wood-burning stove. Entertainment is provided through a large flat-screen television with digital channels and there is also broadband internet access with wi-fi facility.

The separate dining-kitchen is a bright room with French doors offering views across a spacious private lawn and fully-equipped with a wide variety of culinary essentials. The wooden flooring throughout the ground floor of the cottage provides a warm, atmospheric feel, and all floorboards were cut from a single ancient ash tree that grew beside the castle and fell in a storm.

The bedroom has a king-size bed and a full height window framing views of Wedderburn Castle and across the countryside. The chic limestone bathroom has a generous 1.9m bath with shower.

Further details outdoors

The spacious private walled garden at the Garden Cottage allows guests the option of sunbathing, alfresco dining, BBQs and relaxing in the fresh air. It is also ideal for those trying to keep an eye on infants and young toddlers, allowing them to run around freely within a contained space.

The cottage has parking at the door which is for the exclusive use of Garden Cottage.

Getting around

We recommend a car to get around. If you are a keen cyclist there are some great cycle routes in the Scottish Borders and some that pass directly beside the cottage. There is a shed where bikes can be left.

Interaction with guest

We like to leave people to enjoy their holidays in peace and get away from it all. For that reason we don't tend to bother you during your stay. However we are generally around to answer any queries you might have or offer any assistance needed – or leave a manager in place if we are away. We send an extensive information pack in advance of your stay and have guest information files at the properties. We are always at the end of a phone line or an email if you have any more specific requests as well.

Response from the owner Hi Jenny Thank you for your review. We like to leave people in peace during their stay with us but there is always a housekeeper around or somebody to help if you need anything. We find that most couples like to snuggle on the sofa in front of the fire in this romantic cottage and there is a large footstool/pouffe if anybody wants their own space. We are planning to add a new chair to the cottage on your recommendation though. We hope to welcome you back some time in the future and that we might meet you then!
