Description from owner

Description

A perfect retreat overlooking the river between the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Coast, providing a comfortable, relaxing break for large families or groups of friends. This quiet village with the River Esk running through it is just 8 miles from the historic seaside town of Whitby with its historic Abbey and the 199 steps, beautiful beaches and bustling harbour. There is a direct train service from Egton Bridge to Whitby for those who would prefer this type of relaxing, scenic journey. Just 4 miles in the other direction across the North York Moors you will find Goathland, also known as the fictional ‘Aidensfield’ on TV's long-running Heartbeat series. Enjoy a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors heritage steam railway at Grosmont which is 2 miles away. Permits for fishing are available enabling guests to take full advantage of this tranquil waterside location.

Leave your coats and boots in the spacious entrance and head into the main house. The lounge with comfy sofas and a wood burner has fantastic views over the river. Choose your favourite seat and relax. Home to a Smart TV as well as games and books, all generations will find something to occupy themselves for chilled-out evenings. The spacious kitchen has all the equipment you could want including a small breakfast table for enjoying your morning coffee. It leads into the utility area where you will find a washing machine, fridge/freezer and microwave. From the kitchen, you can move through to the sunroom, a great space where good food, drink and conversation will flow easily around the large wooden table. The room is the perfect place to sit and take in the views and look out for the local birdlife, pheasants, rabbits or sheep, with lambs in spring. The kitchen is well equipped to rustle up some delicious meals or a picnic to take out for the day. The ground floor also boasts a contemporary shower room adjacent to a large twin bedroom, ideal for those who don't want to use the stairs or teenagers who would like a little bit of their own space. Stepping up to the first floor you will find three good-sized bedrooms, two king-size and one triple, all benefitting from far-reaching views. To complete the accommodation there is the contemporary family bathroom.

Outside, to the front, the terraced garden overlooks the river, the perfect place to sit with a glass of wine and watch the salmon jump. At the rear of the house is the patio that overlooks the fields. Spend a relaxing time watching the birds visit the bird feeders in the garden or the animals in the fields beyond and breathe in the fresh country air. There is a charcoal BBQ you can enjoy on warmer days.

Opposite the house you will find two sets of stepping stones taking you across the river to The Horseshoe Inn which serves home cooked food, there are a further three pubs/restaurants within walking distance.

Getting around

Moles House is situated in the Esk Valley, the Esk Valley railway line runs between Whitby and Middleborough and stops at Egton Bridge, a great way to see the beautiful area. A local bus also passes in front of the house, just stick out your hand and it will stop for you and take you into Whitby. If you do head into Whitby with a car there is a park and ride on the outskirts, always a good idea to park here especially in the summer when all the parking becomes very congested. Why not drive to Ruswarp, park the car and then walk next to the railway line into Whitby, a lovely picturesque walk between the railway and river, under the viaduct and into Whitby without the hassle of trying to park!

You can also contact me by phone, email or through the web site if you have any questions or queries. “Fantastic”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2023

It's a lovely rental property in an amazing location with amazing views front & back. The house is very well looked after & is fully equipped with everything you could need. The house has 4 good sized bedrooms, 2 are huge & there are 2 bathrooms. The village has 2 lovely pubs within a short walk & another couple within half hour walk. We did 2 diffetent walks from the house that were lovely & there were other lovely walks a little further away. It's a 10 to 15 drive into Whitby which is also great. My only criticism is the shower in downstairs bathroom is rubbish but with everything else being so nice you can almost forget that. We stayed with 4 adults & 4 children (10 - 13) & we all loved our stay, would definitely recommend. Naomi is also very helpful with anything you may need.

Response from the owner Thank you so much to take time to do the review, very kind and yes we agree with you about the shower. The water pressure is low as it is a gravity fed shower unlike the shower upstairs, but very pleased this did not affect your stay, so pleased you enjoyed your stay, Naomi
