Description from owner

Description

Old Linthill is a large holiday house in the Scottish Borders that sleeps 8-10 people. Located one mile West of the picturesque fishing port of Eyemouth, the secluded seventeenth century Scottish tower house is perched on a hillside in the centre of a beautiful small estate with two rivers and woodland walks.

There are four bedrooms on the first floor plus a ground floor bedroom with additional king-size bed giving accommodation for up to 10 guests in comfort. Two of the bathrooms are on the first floor and there is a shower room/WC on the ground floor.

The ground floor bedroom and bathroom may appeal to guests who are not keen on stairs, although it should be noted that there is a short flight of steps to the front door of the property.

There is a large comfortable sitting room with open fire and large flat-screen television, beautiful wood-paneled dining room and a well-equipped kitchen.

“Wonderful old house in a fabulous rural setting only a couple of miles from the sea.”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2021

Although large and old , the house was very spacious and comfortable with all modern amenities and equipment. A wonderful opportunity to stay in such an old house - great atmosphere. The surrounding countryside and nearby coastal towns and beaches were all beautiful. Nearest shops about a mile and a half away so own transport very useful. A lovely area to stay in.

“Fabulous house for family holiday”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2019

We stayed last week for a three generation family holiday. The house is wonderfully decorated and refurbished , and with six of us and two dogs there was plenty of room . The ground floor bedroom and shower room was perfect for my Mother in law who struggles with mobility . Th stairs would have been impossible for her, The local walks with our dogs were a pleasure , especially being so close to Eyemouth, The restaurant Heathers was a real find for our last night, The only adjustment we would say would be a comfortably high backed chair. The sofas are lovely but impossible for the older generation. On our last day we visited Paxton house and discovered the association with the house - a bit of a surprise. Overall we would love to come back - it was one of our best family holidays. We all realised my late father in law would have loved this house - especially the opportunity for fishing - sadly not to be

Response from the owner We are delighted you enjoyed your stay. Old Linthill is a very special house and this is a lovely area to explore the local coastline, countryside and historic properties. There are a number of curtained-off and locked doors in the house that are 'back of house' areas where spare fittings and furnishing replacements are kept. Guests do not usually poke around in these areas but I will pass on your comments to housekeeping staff. All lightbulbs were working before check-in so we can only apologise if some blew during your stay. If you had told us we could have brought along replacements. We were interested to hear about the bath. We have not had any mention of this before and there is an enormous hot water tank at the property but it is conceiveable that if many people tried to have baths in succession that some reheat time might be needed.

This property is set in beautiful setting, spotless clean, beautifully decorated, could do with hanging space in pink room. Fishing in the Eye at the end of the drive was enjoyed by the men followed by easy walk into Eyemouth, nice friendly pubs. House is beautiful and has everything needed to make it a relaxing time away.

Response from the owner Hi Maria We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Old Linthill! It's a very special house and very comfortable for large group stays. The kitchen has a large double oven and five-hob range which makes catering for large numbers easy, despite being a bit smaller than some of the other enormous rooms! There is lots to discover in the local area and we very much hope to be able to welcome you back.
