Looking straight out to the Castle, Mackenzie House offers a warm comfortable holiday home, for families and friends, in the lively Artists' Town of Kirkcudbright. Fabulous in every season and a photographer’s dream – large corner windows in the first floor sitting room offer magical views of the historic MacLellan’s Castle, the picturesque harbour and river, plus, a unique perspective of Kirkcudbright’s lively, colourful, civic parades and celebrations.
Holiday home of Meg Walker an artist and her architect husband, the house has been in the artist’s family since 1913. Traditional Scottish and contemporary art adorns the walls. The ample kitchen/dining room was recently modernised and fitted to a very high standard as was the master bedroom and family bathroom. The three charming bedrooms and a cloakroom are on the top floor. Wifi is available throughout the house.
A surprising walled garden with lawn, patio and barbecue is a safe, sunny place to relax or play. Fruits and flowers can be picked in season.
Traditional shops feature fresh produce, as do the restaurants, pubs and cafes – all within walking distance. Stroll to interesting small boutiques, art galleries, the harbour and the town’s recreational facilities. Short drives to lovely sandy beaches, hiking and cycling trails, sailing, fishing, birdwatching and much, much more…….

Response from the manager The house gets good reviews on airbnb and VRBO so we are very sorry that all was not as it should have been for you. The owners have taken appropriate steps and the last two guests in September 2023 were very happy with the house. Airbnb from Maria Bristol, United KingdomRating, 5 star well what a lovely place this was. we had been slightly concerned about previous reviews mentioning damp and lack of towels. we were subsequently delighted by both towels and a complete lack of damp! the kitchen had a fantastic cooker in it, a Samsung fridge freezer with ice making compartment, which amused our kids endlessly over the weekend. the bedrooms were spacious but the standout fact was its location. we were in the centre of town with a view of the castle, within walking distance of the harbor and the many beautiful cafes, restaurants and pubs. In the morning we were able to walk over to the fishmonger in a van and buy fresh produce for tea. in short the building is full of character and period bits and bobs which added to it's charm.
