Description from owner

Description

Quiet side street in Farringdon in Central London, 5 minutes walk from Farringdon station and also Chancery Lane tube (metro/subway) station.

The house is set out over 4 floors, with a cool, loft-style living space on the top floor for maximum light and a view over London roof tops. At the end of a busy day touring the city, you can cook, eat and relax up here.

This spacious top floor has a fully-equipped kitchen, dining table with 6 chairs, large flat-screen TV with satellite channels, dvd player, xbox and comfortable seating.

The kitchen has an oven, ceramic hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave and lots of cupboard space. On the worktop you will find a kettle, toaster and coffee maker (cafetière). Inside the cupboards are cups, plates, cutlery, kitchen utensils, saucepans, large serving plates and baking trays - everything you need to make a family supper and eat in.

The lounge seating is comfortable and gives everyone a good view of the TV. A window seat looks out on to the mews below, perfect for reading, checking your emails (you can pick up our wi-fi throughout the building) or just watching the London sky.

The first floor has a large bedroom with en suite shower-room. A king size bed (5 feet wide) and a single bed that converts from an armchair means that this room can sleep 3 people. It has a TV and hairdryer.

En suite shower room has a toilet, basin with mirror and shower cubicle with a good strong shower, heated towel rail and underfloor heating.

Upstairs to the second floor you will find one bedroom with a double bed which can be split into two single beds. With bedside tables with reading lamps and hanging space for clothes, it looks out to the mews below.

The third bedroom has two single beds, bedside table, chest of drawers, hanging space for clothes, hairdryer and full length mirror.

All bedrooms have large windows to let in lots of natural light during the day and each is fitted with black-out blinds to stop the sun from waking you too early in the morning.

The family bathroom is on the second floor and this has a bath (small) and separate shower cubicle. Underfloor heating and heated towel rail ensure that you will be cosy and warm. We supply all bath and bed linen. If you stay for longer than 11 days, a cleaner will drop in to change the beds, give you fresh towels and do a quick clean up.

The house will provide you with guide books and a selection of novels with London as the backdrop. We also have a folder of information with our recommendations for local restaurants, supermarkets and general advice on getting about and living in London.

The ground floor is split between the utility room with washing machine, ironing board and clothes dryer and the garage.

The garage is suitable for one modestly-sized car. Your car cannot be more than 430cm in length or wider than 220cm. If your car is larger, please note that there is no free on-street parking in Farringdon (or pretty much anywhere in central London), but there are car parks near by charging around £25 per day.

This an allergy-friendly home; the floors in each room are wooden and the stairs are not carpeted. There are no curtains, just blinds on the windows. We provide good quality feather pillows and quilts, but we can replace these with non-feather bedding if required. Please mention this when you book.

London is a great city to walk around and you will be able to walk to many of the major sites from the house or take a short bus or tube ride. The house is five minutes walk to Farringdon station which offers tube trains to all over the city and also overground trains direct to Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton airports. Chancery Lane tube station is a six minute walk and also offers tube services for the central line (red line on the tube map).

Here in Farringdon (also known as Clerkenwell) just to the North of the financial district, you are within 30 minutes walk from St Paul's Cathedral, the British Museum, Covent Garden, many restaurants and the shops, theatres and galleries of London's West End.

Grocery stores, a great Italian deli and a weekday street-food market are all within 3-5 minutes walk of the house. A large pharmacy (Boots) and high-street shops are on Holborn which is 5 minutes walk away.

It is a very convenient place to stay; choosing to stay in central London allows you to pack more in and get the most out of your trip.

They are both a 5-6 minute walk away and you can use both stations to get you to different parts of town. Heathrow Airport is an easy journey by the new Elizabeth line; take a train from the station inside the airport and get off at Farringdon in 40 minutes. There are direct overground trains from Gatwick Airport (50 minutes) and Luton to Farringdon Station. There is a guide to the tube and buses in a folder in the house. Interaction with guest

Let me know at which of London's five airports (or train station) you arrive and I will send you relevant directions to the house, along with tips on using London tubes (metro/subway) and buses and details of the nearest supermarkets. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about the house, the local areas of Farringdon, Clerkenwell and London generally. Keys are in a small lock box at the door. I will not meet you for check-in. Please let me know if you'd like the beds made up as: Two double beds & 2 single beds OR One double bed & 4 single beds If there is a problem during your stay, please phone, WhatsApp, message or email me. I live nearby and can always visit. There is a folder of local information in the house.

“Decent place with a few issues”

Response from the owner Thank you for taking time to write a review. I am sorry that you found the largest bed uncomfortable. The small pub on the corner of the mews is usually closed at weekends and occasionally it hosts private parties on Saturday nights. Your visit coincided with a four-day holiday and a moment of national celebration marking Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee (70 years as Queen). Pubs and bars were given a one-off extension to their licensing hours and permitted to stay open until 1am (they usually close at 11pm). There were parties all over the UK that weekend and, for the benefit of future guests reading this review, the neighbourly noise that weekend is not typical. This is a three bedroom family house with two bathrooms in central London, laid out over four storeys. It is priced as a family house and we keep that price affordable by not offering the hotel-type service that you seem to be expecting; daily fresh towels, daily replenishing of toilet rolls, food supplies. There is tea, coffee and sugar as well as salt, pepper, herbs, spices and breakfast cereal in the kitchen cupboard. The supermarket is a 3 minute walk. However, if you had contacted me during your stay and raised these issues or requested extra towels or toilet rolls, I would have dropped in with extra supplies.

Response from the owner Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am always delighted to hear that guests had a great time in London. During your trip in the second week of December, the pubs were no doubt full of office workers enjoying team Christmas lunches. I'm afraid London does not do quiet from the end of November until Christmas Eve! Those same pubs will be desperate for your custom now that (dry) January is here. I hope that you do get the chance to return!

“Great apartment for us”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2018

My wife and took our niece and nephew on a trip to London. This apartment was great. We were a quick walk to a major metro station. During the week their were the sounds from the bar down the block, but that is why you stay in the city. Great restaurants in the area. We cooked dinner in a couple nights and did take out. From the here we either walked or took the Metro everywhere. You will need to be able to walk stairs as the living space is on the 4th floor. Our nephew called it the upside house. Great windows and skylight on the top floor.

Response from the owner Thank you! Glad you enjoyed your stay in central London! For the sake of clarity, the living room and kitchen are on the third floor if you are using UK English, but this becomes the fourth floor if you are using American English. Either way it is three flights of stairs from the street door to the top floor.

Response from the owner Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Yes, London is having a surprising bout of hot weather with temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius every day for two weeks. London has not had a summer like this since 1976. If the house is too warm, I suggest that guests 1 Keep the blinds closed during the day 2 Open the big picture window in the top floor living room. 3 Open the skylight in the top floor living room. This creates airflow and allows the whole house to cool down. London homes do not typically have air-conditioning. My usual summer advice is to carry sunglasses, a cardigan and an umbrella in your bag every day. I believe the weather will be back to the usual pattern of cloudy with sunny spells and some showers next week. With the England football team appearing the World Cup semi-final and the prolonged sunny weather, 2018 has been a once-in-a-generation summer. Thanks again for writing. I am so pleased that you had a good time.
