Description from owner
Description
This lovely, traditional, end-terraced cottage is set in an idyllic location on the banks of the Crinan Canal in Cairnbaan in Argyll on the west coast of Scotland. Cairnbaan is situated about half way along the Crinan Canal which leads from Ardrishaig on Loch Fyne to Crinan on the Atlantic coast. This is an excellent location for walking and cycling, particularly along the Crinan Canal tow path but also along the many nearby woodland tracks. The Cairnbaan Hotel (Currently closed and for sale - April 2024) is only 10 minutes walk from the cottage and serves high quality locally sourced food in the bar and restaurant.
There are lots of attractions and activities to see and do in the local area, including walking, cycling (including mountain bike trails), ancient Standing Stones and Cairns at Kilmartin Glen and Museum, boat trips to the world famous Corryvreckan whirlpool and also wildlife and whale watching trips, enjoying the spectacular scenery, visiting castles (Inveraray and Dunstaffnage) and spectacular gardens (Crarae and Arduaine).
If you like going to the beach, you can cycle or drive to Crinan Ferry (about 4 miles) where you will find a lovely sandy beach and great views. The Mull of Kintyre is a lovely area to explore and has some fantastic sandy beaches suitable for picnics, body boarding and the world-famous Machrihanish Golf Course (Great Scottish links collection). You can also catch ferries for day trips to the islands of Islay and Jura (famous for their whisky distilleries), Gigha and Arran.
A good route is to cycle or walk along the Crinan Canal tow path from Cairnbaan to Crinan (about 4.5 miles), here you will see the yachts entering and leaving the canal. At Crinan, there is a coffee shop serving lovely home baking and light refreshments and the award-winning Crinan Hotel - renowned for its excellent seafood restaurant. There are many other cycling/walking routes detailed in the cottage guest information.
Inside the cottage there is a kitchen/diner and a lounge downstairs. The kitchen includes an electric oven with ceramic hob, fridge freezer, microwave and washing machine. Off the kitchen is the dining area, with a table and four chairs.
The cosy living room has a log fired stove, a 2 seater sofa, 2 chairs and a window with views over the canal and surrounding countryside. There is a TV and stereo. There is also an under-stair storage cupboard.
Upstairs is a bathroom with over bath shower and two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a King sized bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and great views over the canal and surrounding countryside. The second bedroom has twin beds, a chest of drawers and views out to the woodland to the rear of the cottage.
