Description from owner

Description

West Gallaton Farmhouse is a beautiful cottage set in the South Aberdeenshire countryside with stunning views over open rural landscape all the way to the sea. Just over 2 miles from Stonehaven, right on the National Cycle Network, our location offers the best of both worlds; a peaceful, rural location, with easy access to the busy town of Stonehaven. We offer family run, self-catered holiday lets throughout the year. The house comfortably accommodates up to 5 adults. Outside, the farmhouse has a spacious (60sqm), sunny, fully enclosed terrace with garden furniture. There is plenty of parking space and a shed for storing bikes.

On the ground floor there is a large, fully equipped dining kitchen, lounge with wood-burning stove, bathroom and small single bedroom. Upstairs there are two large bedrooms, one with a king size bed and one with two single beds. The double room also has a small separate dressing room. Most rooms have sea views.

Since June 2023, we have full-fibre broadband, with excellent internet connectivity.

Getting around

As we are a rural property, a car is really necessary. However, we do have guests who choose to come without one and are happy to walk or cycle everywhere. We are right on National Cycle Route 1, and there is loads of great cycling, both on and off road. There is no public transport in the immediate area, but it is a 5 minute taxi ride into town. Stonehaven has a railway station on the Aberdeen to Dundee/Edinburgh line. Aberdeen airport is a 25 minute drive away.

Interaction with guest

Whilst we live next door, we prefer to leave our guests to enjoy the peace and quiet the area offers. So unless we hear otherwise, we assume that all is well. We are often, but not always, around to welcome guests. If we are not around, there is a keysafe so that people can let themselves in. Full information on how to get there, and how to access the house will be emailed prior to arrival.

House rules

We welcome quiet, well-behaved pets, but they must not be left alone either inside or outside the house. They must be kept downstairs and are not allowed up on the furniture - the stairgate can be used if necessary. The terrace is fully enclosed, however pets must be kept on a lead if walking in the surrounding countryside as there is livestock in the fields. The cost of any damage or extra cleaning may be deducted from the security deposit.

No smoking includes no e-cigarettes.

“The Best Little Holiday We Have Had In A While!”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2020

West Gallaton Farmhouse is a fantastic little getaway. The farmhouse itself is comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Great for children and dogs too. Our boys enjoyed the board games and dvds. Our dogs were safe nipping out for a bedtime wee in the enclosed garden. I loved the views and the location. So close to lots of beautiful costal walks and attractions, but rural enough that we were tucked away, surrounded by fields and with sea views too. My son is epileptic, so I aways like to know we are close to help if needed, but we still want to be in rural accommodation. This was absolutely perfect for our needs. We love to geocache and we weren't disappointed with the wonderful scenery, historic sites and wildlife that we discovered along the way. The kitchen is huge, so it wasn't a problem to keep the dogs in there. I put their bed by the radiator and they were more than comfortable! The bathroom is downstairs, at the far end of the house and the stairs themselves are a little steep - Not complaints, just observations that might be helpful to others. A fantastic holiday all round.

“Lovely Cottage”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2019

We stayed for 4 nights in July. We went with family it was a great wee cottage. Spacious, clean and great views. We went walks, went to Stonehaven and visited some family in Aberdeen. It was a great location for our trip. My wee boy loved it and we had everything we needed for him provided a high chair and a cot bed! It was a home from home. He loved the garden and seeing the chickens and cows and horses close by! Perfect 4 days away! We will definitely be back. Thanks Marie Baxter and family July 2019
