“Wonderful stay”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2022

We have been up to Scotland lots of times and just traveled through the Borders. We decided to visit for the late Bank holiday and what a gem of a find Lurden House was. It was very comfortable and had everything needed for a great stay.Beth the host was very friendly and advised us of different roads we would enjoy when out on our motorcycle. The grounds of Lurden house were amazing , of which we could venture. Living in a city, it was lovely to see and hear the different birds, and the owls on a night. The peace and tranquillity was very much appreciated. We will definitely visit Lurden House again and it comes highly recommended.

Response from the owner Sorry to hear you were disappointed. I appreciate that, after a wet day metal detecting in muddy fields, you would have wanted the place cosy to come in to. We usually have the stove on for guests arriving, but since you arrived an hour before we had arranged, we hadn't had the chance to do that, so the Coach House was a bit cooler than ideal when you arrived. Apologies for that. Kind regards Beth

“My new happy place”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2019

This is definitely one of the best places we’ve stayed in the UK - and we’ve been around! If you’re looking for a secluded country venue as a couple or small family, I can’t recommend Lurden Coach House enough. The setting is stunning. River right beside, large open lawn, woodlands adjacent, pheasants roaming free in the grounds, more secluded garden for some more privacy, croquet lawn (or ‘Crogo Grawn’ if you’re in the know ;-) Oh yeah, and their own private ‘burn’ running alongside the drive. For me, the perfect place to unwind. It would be ideal for couples, but we also had two kids (9 and 7) who slept on the sofa bed and also loved the place. (Access to the flat is up a metal external staircase so young kids may need supervision). Internally, you can tell it’s been a while since it was originally renovated but it’s clean and very comfortable. The living room and bedroom are spacious, while the shower room and kitchen are compact, but adequate for holiday purposes. The weather was chilly when we visited so we definitely needed the wood burning stove, which was lit when we arrived and well stocked with extra wood. It also has central heating. Beth and David (who live in the main house) are genuinely lovely people who struck the right balance between being friendly and helpful (he changed my flat tyre just before we left!), but also giving us space to ourselves. If I have my way, we’ll definitely be back!
