“Cosy characterful cottage”
Just back from a lovely relaxing holiday in cosy and characterful Birch cottage. Situated in a peaceful little lane within easy walking distance of Aboyne which has some good shops and restaurant. … More

Response from the owner Thank you so much for this! We’re very glad you had such an enjoyable stay and you were lovely guests - we look forward to welcoming you back next year. You are quite right about the stairs - it’s a traditional cottage and they are very steep! We added an extra handrail this year, which we hope have made them easier. (Note for any prospective guests with limited mobility, there is a bedroom with en-suite downstairs).

“Adequate accommodation for Christmas week”
Birch Cottage is a traditional granite cottage near Aboyne. It has three bedrooms so for the price is quite a good deal. However it is definitely ‘tired’ and in need of an upgrade. It was … More

“Gezellig,rustig en landelijk.”
Huiselijk en sfeervol huis in een rustige en landelijke omgeving. Vooral de houtkachel ‘s avonds was een heerlijke ervaring.

Response from the owner Thank you very much for your review of the cottage, and your helpful comments. I'm sorry the television wasn't working properly during your stay. As you know, we had had an engineer over, and he confirmed there was nothing wrong with the set and the problems must have been being caused by climatic conditions, so it was somewhat outwith our control. As for the stairs, you are right - they are very steep! We have now flagged this up on the Trip Advisor site, and thank you for prompting us to do that. Best wishes, Vicky

“A perfect holiday cottage”
The cottage was comfortable and thoughtfully supplied with maps, information about local walks and places to visit and a wonderful selection of books. The highlight was seeing two young red deer grazing opposite the cottage one morning.

“Great Cottage”
Many things about this cottage are great. The location is great, the views, the quiet, it has everything you need for a stay. It’s really a beautiful cottage. The owners were really helpful providing some kids books and toys and were available to answer questions we had. The internal stairs are very steep and traditional. They probably shouldn’t be covered in carpet, our three year old fell from the top twice. If you have small people, under 100cm, the stairs are not safe for them.

“Birch Cottage, Birse, Aboyne”
Birch Cottage is an authentic Victorian Coach House, peacefully set back from the River Dee near Aboyne and was a very fine base for our holiday. The cottage is spacious and well equipped through out. The stove fire feature was most homely in the evenings, adjacent to the open plan traditional and modern kitchen for dining. Birch Cottage is a perfect base to explore local attractions including Ballater, the River Dee and Glen Tanar Pinewoods for walks and cycling. Aboyne is 5 minutes away, ideal for groceries and country pub outings. Superfast wi-fi was a bonus and interesting literature on the heritage of the area was fascinating. The hosts were first class throughout our stay and were most hospitable. We'd be very pleased to stay again and recommend Birch Cottage to friends and family as an ideal getaway retreat.
