“You don't have to die to get to heaven”
Before my stay at Casa del Perro Feliz, I had never been to the Yucatan peninsula and I found the listing for the house on the internet. As you know, there can be a big difference between the experience promised in the listing and your actual stay. Everything about my 10 days at this fabulous house far exceeded my expectations. The house is spacious and sweet. Maria and Ulises, the caretakers, are dedicated and gracious. The bay is a Caribbean dream. We were there for the Christmas and new year holidays and we almost never even saw our neighbors--which meant we had the whole bay to ourselves. The nearby town of Tulum was exciting and the food was great. There are many things to see in the peninsula but, for us, the most magnificent were the cenotes. Swim in as many of them as you can. There is one 5 minutes walk from the house, but our favorite was the Grand Cenote, a few minutes drive. This was a memorable and rewarding trip for me, my wife and our 3 children. I'm saving up so we can go back.
“Beautiful house in a great location.”
My family of four stayed at Casa del Perro Feliz the first week of October. We had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful and in a great location. I absolutely loved it. You are literally steps away from the water and have such a wonderful view from the backyard and rooftop. We had a great time snorkeling, kayaking, riding bikes, hanging out in the hammocks, etc. We took day trips to Yal Ku lagoon (wonderful) and Hidden Worlds (fun). We also ate dinner and shopped in nearby Tulum. The caretakers Maria and Ulysses are wonderful and their son Eder was great; he drove us around in his taxi all week. Maria is an excellent cook and we loved the meals she cooked for us. We enjoyed spending time with her family and also with the dogs. No a/c so expect it to be a little hot upstairs but it was great listening to the ocean. Both restaurants within walking distance are very good. My biggest complaint about this vacation is the time went by too quickly. A week just isn't enough. I would love to go back.
“Incredible beach front home!”
To have stayed at Casa Del Perro Feliz is to have felt the true reason for vacationing, relaxing! This beautifully adorned home is exotic enough to remind you that your on vacation but cozy and casual to make you feel you've lived there forever. Besides the amazing tropical views from the roof top porch are the endless windows through out the home inviting the sea breeze in. No detail is left out on your way out to the beach front, that literally is but a hop skip away from the patio door. Hammocks, sway with the trees and plants that you can quickly admire as being native to the region. Even the shells, coral and rock are used resourcefully to make supporting walls. It is obvious that an Eco friendly attitude was used in the design of this home, hence the no aC. But after you open up the windows, turn on the fans that are provided you will find that you adapt easily and focus on how the weather and nature combined bring you to experience the feel of this unique area of the world. So much more I can go on and on about; like the incredible wild life we witness, or the beautiful color of the ocean water and coral beach. The privacy and comfort feeling knowing that Ulysses and Maria were around just enough to make you feel safe. This immaculate house is equipped with every need you could think of and if not Ulysses and Maria are there to help with anything. At the end of my stay at this home I became the "Perro Feliz"!
“A Piece of Paradise”
My wife and I along with our 10 year old daughter stayed at Casa del Perro Feliz over the New Year with another couple and their two girls (ages 9 and 11). The house couldn't have been better suited for us and surpassed descriptions. With separate bedroom suites everyone had plenty of room at night and the common areas were open and comfortable. Outside the grounds are beautifully maintained by Ulisses and Maria and really expand the living space. Tankah Bay provided hours of snorkling and kayaking fun. (we saw lobsters, octopi, rays and tons of fish) The casa served as an excellent base for our many day adventures including trips to akumal, Tulum, Sian Kaan and el Pariso beach. For day excursions we used Ulisses' friend Rueben for taxi service. Rueben was a real hit and never let us down, always offering great suggestions and taking us to fantastic local restaurants and food stands. Within walking distance were a couple of nice casual restaurants including Blue Sky. Also within walking distance is Manatee Cenote, which is a great and very affordable adventure. The water in the cenote is clear and fresh. Not to be forgotten was the kind service provided by Ulisses and Maria. They were very responsive and always helped us out with any questions or needs we had. We had Maria cook for us one night and it was great. Grilled fresh fish and her famous flan...We also enjoyed their dogs which were always well behaved and very sweet. The dogs really got a lot of attention from our daughters and always accompained us on our walks either on the road or on the beach. Our week at the Casa went by too fast and we were sad to say adios. We are ready to go back already and would certainly recommend the Casa to anyone including those with kids. On a closing note I would also like to say that the owners, Ann and Chuck, were superb and very helpful. Ann was very prompt with answering questions and made us very comfortable with the whole process.
We just got back from Tankah. It was just perfect. Since it's a review, I'll try to cover a few areas that usually raise questions when looking for a house. We were 6 adults with my 6 months old. The bedrooms : They are spacious and have lots of windows and 2 or 3 fans in each. Sleeping was not a problem...in fact it was great and cool, even without aC. Each bedroom has its own shower and toilet. The kitchen : When you need something in the kitchen, it is there. From spices to cookware...we didn't miss anything. No dishwasher though. The caretakers : Ulises and Maria were great. We had Maria cook for us (6$ per person) on 5 different nights and her food was amazing. Ulises went to the grocery to make sure we had everything for dinner. The house and the beach was clean daily. The backyard : When you look out the window from the house you see : Palm trees, sand and water. As we walk around on the beach and in the neighborhood we often told to ourselves that we had, by far, the nicest backyard in the area. More secluded, more shade areas and a better maintain beach. One must know that the bay is more of a snorkel area. So the sea bottom is rocky and you need water shoes the enjoy the bay. If you're looking for a sandy bottom, this might not be it. On the other hand, if you like to snorkel, it's close and really nice. Activities : If you want to get around, you probably need a rental car since it's cheap in mexico. Or taxis. Tulum ruins and the beach inside Sian Kaan reserve are among the must do. There is a cenote/lagoon that is great and beautiful just 5 min walk from the house. Highly recommended. We had one dinner at the Blue Sky restaurant (again walking distance). It was not good at all and way overpriced. 30$ us for a small spaghetti with overcook seafood. The owners : Easy and pleasant to deal with ann. They made a booklet with all the informations you want to know. We sure hope we can go back!
“Don't miss this wonderful opportunity!!!”
Casa del Perro Feliz is a must if you are looking for a wonderful home on Tankah Bay, Mexico, a short distance from Tulum. The home is very comfortable and very well furnished to meet all needs and desires, active or not. You can cook your meals, have them cooked for you(Maria and Ulises are out of this world) or frequent some great restaurants. Don't miss Bluesky just down the road. We spent Christmas and New Years with our family at Perro Felize and had a wonderful time.
“A True Mexican Get-Away”
Casa del Perro Feliz was a wonderful get-away for our family in the heart of Mexico. The home was beautifully furnished and very clean. It felt like it was a "family home" and felt very warm and welcoming. The snorkeling was amazing; we saw many incredilble fish, rays, and even a sea turtle on the last day! The nearby cenote snorkeling was just jaw dropping. Everyone we encountered was very kind and welcoming. Next time we go we will get a rental car, as it is not walking distance to town and the cost of a taxi for that adds up over several days.
“The Best Winter Vacation Experience I've Ever Had”
Our visit to Casa del Perro Feliz on Tankah Bay was a fabulous value and will warrant return visits. The local caretakers had the house ready for us and kept everything ship shape throughout our entire visit. Maria cooked a wonderful dinner for us and made it a very relaxed and special evening. It was a great compromise between going out and cooking ourselves. Prior to our visit, Ann the co-owner provided us with a wealth of information on things to do, as well as, great directions on how to get around. The comfortable and tastefully appointed home is situated in a very laid back, secure and quiet location away from the resort hubbub. The beautiful bay is a few feet from the villa and is protected by a wonderful reef. The bay is ideal for kayaking (kayaks included), and snorkeling to explore the reef. Located in an area rich in culture, history, archaeological treasures and home to nearby protected jungle habitat, there is something for everyone. Besides snorkeling, exploring, wonderful food, shopping and lounging in serene bliss, my favorite adventure was a bike ride into the jungle south of Tulum. To sum it up the house and location provided all we needed to make us feel relaxed and at home. Our only regret was not being able to spend more time there, but... we'll be back!
There is no way to adequately describe the fantastic experience we had at Casa del Perro Feliz on Tankah Bay. The house is down towards the North end curve of the bay on gentle water protected by a barrier reef with views that are out of this world. I like to get up early and go to the roof with a cuppa to listen to the birds and watch the day unfold before my very eyes. You can see all the way down to the south end of the bay and it is spectacular. My wife likes to sleep in and that is no problem because there is little traffic in that neighborhood. But all is secure because it is a gated community and every vehicle must have a reason to be in there or NO GO. We snorkel, ride bikes, kayak instead of watching TV or video games. We body surf instead of surfing the net. It reminded us of what it means to be alive! Ceiling fans were more than enough--too cool sometimes. We would NEVER have had to turn on an air conditioner. We laughed about our pre-vacation worrying concerning no AC. The house is big enough for 3 couples or a family (3BR, 3&1/2 bath) and hammocks, palapa and beach are right outside the door. The kitchen and dining area are spacious- make it simple and easy, but the caretakers will actually cook for you if that is your preference and you arrange it with them. We took them in our rented car into town and they knew where to buy what we needed. You probably should rent a car for all the activities in the area:Coba, Tulum, Playa Carmen, cenotes, etc. but you can get along using an occasional taxi too. There are a couple of very good restaurants in walking distance right on the bay and in addition to the snorkeling in the bay, you can snorkel a cenote a half mile from the house--right in front of one of the restaurants. I could write a book about all the things there are to do once you get settled in to the Casa del Perro Feliz!!
“Paradise Lost - I FOUND IT - Part 1”
At Casa del Pero Feliz If you are looking for a quiet corner of the world, on a beach, protected by a barrier reef where clear, crystal waters in shades of blues lap at the sugar white beach this is for you! If you are looking to kick back and just relax - you're in the right place. My friend cancelled hours before the trip and I went down on my own. I am so glad I did. I had a BLAST! I love this home and all it has to offer along with Tankah Bay''s close proximity to so many of the fabulous sites in the Maya Riviera. Casa del Pero Feliz is all about the naturaleza of the area, but with modern comforts. This house is tucked into a quiet, secluded curve on the bay. Listen (and watch) to the birds! Feel the ocean breezes and enjoy the ocean view from every room in the house. The rooftop observatory is amazing -What a spot! I sipped coffee at sunrise and Margaritas at Sunset - Breathtaking panaromic views of the bay, ocean and jungle. This house has it all - a fabulous kitchen if you like, but why cook?- Maria the Housekeeper and Cook will be glad to cook for you - for a nominal charge. She's always ready to prepare a typical Mexican breakfast (Huevos Rancheros) or a fabulous feast for dinner (Try Tequila Lime Shrimp or Polla en salsa limon)! Not to be missed. She takes great pride in her cooking and presentation. Just one more special touch about the house. Ulyses, the Caretaker, works to ensure that the grounds are immaculate, the beach combed and is always ready to assist in any way he can! They are also very respectful of your privacy! Truly great service!
