“Beautiful Home with Top Notch Accommodations”

Reviewed 20 Jan 2015

My group of 6 stayed here for a week, in May. The home is really stunning and first rate. It was beautifully decorated and has everything you can possibly need. Lots and lots of space, if you are traveling with a larger group. Amazing views from the patio, off of the main living room. We had zero issues with this rental and would definitely stay here again. The only thing I would change is our choice of transportation. We elected to not rent a car, but instead use the local taxi, bus and train service. That worked, but it did add considerable time to our day trips. So next time, we will rent a car. Also - one thing to keep in mind is that this rental is located in a small town. It's extremely charming, but your options for eating out are limited. Not a problem if you use the wonderful kitchen and bring along your favorite chef!

“We will be back! Great home Uber comfortable.”

This is a property that we want to return to! We had 3 couples plus and there was more than ample room and comfort for us all in every aspect. It is a bright, beautiful and wonderfully appointed home. All furnishings have been considered; comfortable furniture, great kitchen, plenty of towels, blankets (and the sort you would want in your own home). Bathrooms are fresh and modern with plenty of hot water and pressure. This location provided a great central location for day trips to Florence, Tuscan oil and wine tasting, Cinque Terre, Volterra, San Gimignano and more. Access to train and bus was close. Having a car was a definite plus and there is plenty of off street parking. The local town has a great local pizzeria. We had relaxing and wonderful time at this home. We enjoyed cooking in the evenings, drinking local wines and watching the autumn sunsets next to an impressivlely efficient wood stove. We have been to a number of rental properties and this one is a definite favorite.

“Central to all tuscan fun”

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay at this beautiful Tuscan villa in Castel Del Bosco. We were able to comfortably day trip to pisa, lucca, florence, Cinque Terre, and Chianti for wine tasting. The house is beautiful and quite the luxury. I want to bring my family to stay there soon.

“A Travel Agent's Review of Tuscany”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2014

Allow me to begin by saying that I have been in the travel industry for 28 years and have lived abroad for 4.5 years from 1993 to 1997. We planned this trip to celebrate my husband and my 35th wedding anniversary and traveled with my two sisters-in-laws and their husbands celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. This was a special occasion for all of us and we wanted it to be special. The planning began a year ago with looking for a villa in Tuscany to rent that was reasonable and could accommodate three couples with bedrooms with queen beds and at least two bathrooms. Many villas only offered two full beds and the third bedroom with twin beds. We also wanted a central location to explore Tuscany and did not plan on renting a car due to the expense of a van and none of us wanting to drive on the narrow and winding roads. I discovered Max and John’s villa in Castel del Bosco and emailed Max for further information. Max was extremely prompt in responding to my questions and this would continue to be the case in all future correspondences. After searching for a while for a property to fulfill our group’s wishes, we settled on this villa. The pictures of the villa provided on the internet are true to what you will find when you arrive. The home is clean, spacious and you will find that Max has thought of every detail. Everything is labelled in English and no needs are overlooked down to a hair straightener, bathrobes, plug adapters, movie DVDs in English and Italian(although we think he should have one of the Godfather), cookbooks and guidebooks. With airline luggage weight restrictions, having a washer/dryer at our disposal made packing much less of a challenge. This villa could easily accommodate a much larger group and I would love to return someday with my sons and their families. The views from the “great room” balcony were spectacular of the Tuscan countryside and the far to the east town of Lucca. We give Max an A+ for his beautiful home.

Response from the owner Thank you so much Judy! Given your experience in the travel industry your opinion means a lot!

“New Spacious Tuscan Home”

Reviewed 26 May 2014

I went on a trip to Tuscany with my fiance and 2 other friends. We rented a couple of rooms from Max. This was a great and beautiful place to use as a home base for exploring the nearby Tuscan cities like Pisa, Cinque Terre and Florence, which we drove to using a rental car. The place was well decorated and equipped and had a great view of the nearby wineries and hills. There were some charming and nearby restaurants that served some awesome pizza. Max and his dad Fabrizio, who owns the house next door, were super nice and hosted a dinner for all of their guests. We had a wonderful time meeting couples from around the world. Overall, this was a great place to stay and we hope to go back again.

Response from the owner Thanks for taking the time to write a review Kim. It was a pleasure having you!

“Comfortable House In a Great Location”

Reviewed 19 Apr 2014

Our group of three couples chose Max and John's house in Castel del Bosco for its great location and roominess. The size of the house was more than adequate for our group and we really appreciated all the amenities that were provided. Even though it was late February when we arrived, we found it to be warm and cozy. Particularly useful for those that like to travel light is the washer and dryer. Another nice touch is the media room stocked with a large flat screen TV and two DVD players (European and american formats). The wi-fi connection works well and there are lots of guidebooks and information about the area. The village was not difficult to find, about a half hour drive from the Pisa airport just off the highway to Florence. As you can see from the pictures, the house has a beautiful view of the arno Valley as it sits atop a hill which provides an unobstructed 180 degree view across the valley to the hills containing Lucca. There are two well stocked supermarkets, each less than a fifteen minute drive, the Panorama in Pontedera which is gigantic and has everything, and the coop store in Santa Maria a Monte which has great meat, produce and a fresh bakery. The coop's wine selection is excellent as well. As others have mentioned, we very much enjoyed dining at Il Melograno in nearby La Rotta and the local pizzeria in the village, an easy walk from the house. This central location allowed us to take many day trips around Tuscany. We visited Florence on three different days, taking the train each time from Pontedera. This was a pleasant one hour trip which terminates in the heart of the city allowing you to walk everywhere. So, if you are looking for a comfortable, well equipped house with a great location for touring Tuscany with a tremendous view, you won't be disappointed staying at Max and John's.

Response from the owner I think this could quite possibly be the longest review we have ever received. Thank you for taking the time to John!

“Best Vacation Rental experience we've had!”

Reviewed 13 Jan 2014

Great property with all the comforts of home! We especially appreciated the fully stocked kitchen (including some basic staples) and the genuine queen size beds for my tall family. Best memory: standing on the outdoor patio at midnight New Year's Eve watching multiple, fantastic fireworks displays across the 180 degree horizon with church bells ringing through the countryside. A memory our kids will never forget! Thanks Max for your thoughtful emails and genuine desire that we would have an enjoyable stay in your home.

“Wonderful Tuscan retreat”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2014

My girlfriend and I stayed at Max's place in Tuscany and had a wonderful time. Max is a great host and has a beautiful, large house in a charming town in Tuscany, conveniently located in the middle of the Tuscany region close to Florence, Lucca, and Pisa. The house is well furnished and decorated with all of the modern amenities and has great views across Tuscan sunflower fields and grapevines.

“"A Beautiful Enjoyable Villa in Tuscany/Italy"”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2013

What a beautiful, serene villa in Tuscany! We were a party of 5 adults (though it can accommodate many more) who spent a week in June for a family birthday celebration after visiting Rome. This property more than met our expectations! The house is very spacious and the countryside view from the back is unsurpassed! The home is simply decorated and meticulously kept. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could possibly need. Beds were comfortable, plentiful linens. We loved that there were retractable screens on all of the windows and could leave them open if we desired. This was an ideal location to relax or use as a base for exploring other areas. We took day trips to Florence, Cinque Terre, Volterra, Siena and San Gimignano. If you stay here, don't miss the Varramista Winery tour which was very close to the house and quite enjoyable! There are not many restaurants very close to the house. Within walking distance, there is a friendly, local pizzeria. I highly recommend a restaurant about a 15 minute drive from the house called Il Melograno di GG, quality food at affordable prices. Last but not least, the owners Max and John were extremely helpful and responded promptly to all of our inquiries. We had an added bonus of meeting Max on the day we arrived! A big thank you to both Max and John for sharing your special home with our family! We truly look forward to going back again and highly recommend this property! Craig B

we all had the most fabulous time in this villa which was superb and equipped with everything needed (plus more), we were so impressed and this made the self-catering experience a lot more comfortable. the area is lovely, my husband enjoyed his daily trip to the bins helping the old lady daily and meeting his regulars along the way a fabulous experience all round, we would love to stay here again good location as easy access to a lot of local cities/sights- you definitely need a car, but these are easy to hire the owners went out of their way to accommodate our requirement for a cot for our youngest child we enjoyed the recommended restaurant locally and the pizzeria, the price was reasonable and taste fabulous max's recommendation of the steak was spot on from the villa we visited: Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Assisi, Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi
