“Wonderful Stay in Tankah Bay”
Just returned from two week stay at Villa Mariposa! The house was just as described and pictured and so much more! Excellent communication with owner prior to arrival giving us tips (directions, where to buy groceries, recommended restaurants) to confirmation after arrival that everything was to our satisfaction. Caretakers Luis and Nery do an excellent job maintaining the property. Located on beautiful Tankah Bay......MUY TRANQUILO! CANT WAIT TO RETURN!
“Beautiful Setting, Relaxing Stay”
This is our second visit to Tankah Bay and it's pretty hard to beat our first stay. This was definitely comparable. The house was beautiful, clean, spacious and perfect for what we wanted. The caretakers were absolutely wonderful and very accommodating for our needs. I recommend taking advantage of their cooking skills, it will add to your relaxing experience and the food was excellent. Everyday you can stroll on the beach, take a swim, snorkel and kayak. Everything is right there, almost no need to leave the property. Within walking distance you have the Manatee Cenote, I highly recommend, just go early because it can get busy. Also, within walking distance, you have two bar/restaurants. My favorite part of the day was relaxing under the palapa, right on water, watching the birds hunt and dive. The beach side of the villa also offers privacy with a patio and lounging areas sheltered by hedges. I'd like to give a special thank-you to the property manager who provided us with fresh eggs from a local farm when the grocery store ran out of them just before Christmas. The Tulum ruins are a must see, as well as the Coba ruins. If you are adventurous, you can climb largest ruin in Coba and get an amazing view of the jungle. I could go on and on about how amazing this place is, but, you'll have to find out for yourselves! We will definitely be back and highly recommend this stunning villa. A much needed escape from the gray and cold of winter.
“A truly relaxing experience in a beautiful environment.”
My husband and I spent my birthday week at Villa Mariposa with a few friends at the beginning of May. The house itself is absolutely perfect. As you can see from the pictures, the backside of the house is a wall of windows. The windows all have the ability to open (and are screened) and bring in an incredible breeze with magical ocean sounds. Lounging both in the house and on the beach (just a few steps away from the house) set the tone for an incredibly relaxing trip. The beds and linens were very comfortable, the house was very clean (and stayed clean throughout the week with the help of the house keeper that comes in once a day), and the kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, blender, etc. for those that want to do some of their own cooking. The house is located about 10 minutes (driving) from Tulum Pueblo, 15 minutes from Tulum Beach and about 15 minutes from Akumal. There is a refreshing and pristine cenote located about two minutes walking distance from the house. There is a small fee to swim in the cenote, but it is completely worth it. The water is crisp and beautiful. There is a pizza place and another small restaurant located within walking distance from the house, but other than that you'll need to travel by car to get to restaurants, grocery stores and other attractions. (And I wouldn't recommend traveling by cab. We made that mistake once and had a cab driver charge us $75 USD to travel to the grocery store in Tulum Pueblo and back.) We very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Mariposa and would definitely recommend it to both friends and family.
Response from the owner Amelia, Thanks for the nice comments about the house!! I am glad you mentioned the taxi. Not all taxis will gauge tourists but it is a lot easier to rent a car while you're staying at Villa Mariposa. Driving in the Yucatan is lot easier than it was, roads have improved greatly and the police is a lot more reasonable than just a few years ago.
Our family of 5 loved villa mariposa. The house itself was even better than the pictures, the setting, decor, views were all fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We loved being in the tranquility of secluded tankah bay yet only 15 minutes drive to more full on action if that's what you crave. The house is well set up for relaxation, plenty of seating areas, hammocks, beautiful lounge area and wonderful bedrooms etc but there is lots to do if you want to explore. We used the kayaks-great fun, swam in the cenote, swam with turtles at akumal, toured the Mayan ruins at coba and tulum, shopped for Mexican souvenirs, walked along the many beaches in the area, all of which we'd highly recommend. The food was fantastic, we ate in, had nery and Luis who look after the house cook for us ( they also clean, make the beds and wash up daily which makes it super relaxing too) and we ate out often. All delicious. We felt safe at all times and fell in love with this area. We travel often all over the world and rarely go back to the same place twice but if we were going to buck that trend this would be it. Villa mariposa is lovingly looked after and we would highly recommend Veronique and Bob's place, which we found to be a little slice of paradise, thank you for such a memorable vacation.
Response from the owner We are so glad to hear the house surpassed your expectations! It sounds like you truly took advantage of what the area has to offer and managed to relax at the house. I know it's hard to leave the house sometimes, it's just soooo relaxing there!
“Paradisiac retreat. Quietness. Beauty”
Perfect location. Stunning views. Quiet unspoiled bay. Great birds. A short drive to Tulum. We loved the "natural" pool right behind the villa called Cenote. Perfect in the early morning or late in the afternoon just before enjoying sunset from the 360° roof top terrace of the Villa. Nery cooked for us great mexican delicacies in the evening while we were enjoying the views with a glass of wine. Perfect gateway with all necessaries amenities to feel serene and relaxed. Stable Wifi.
Response from the owner Thank you! Nice photos! Love the one from the round window!
“Relaxed private beach front luxury home - great family place”
Beautiful home on beautiful beach. My wife and I, with my niece and her husband and 8 year old daughter, very much enjoyed a week here. Caretaker did a great job keeping the house clean while not getting in our way. Snorkeling is quite good if you're willing to swim 20-25 minutes out to the main reef, otherwise its just ok. Beachcombing is great. Air con in the bedroom would have been welcome a few hot nights in July, but we were fine sleeping with just nightshirts and the screens open to the wind.
“A wonderful, relaxing house near tulum”
We spent a week at Villa Mariposa in July. The house was perfect for our needs and just as the listing describes it. The layout gave us plenty of privacy for our family of four. Our 16 year old son and 19 year old daughter could sleep late and not be woken by the rest of us making breakfast or retire to their rooms and have privacy during the day. We stayed in the upstairs master bedroom and it was gorgeous. I loved the deck that looks over the water. I had my first cup of coffee each morning on the deck. Then I would jump in the ocean for an early morning swim and dry off on the beach with my second cup of coffee. It was the most relaxing vacation I've had in years. The kitchen and great room have lots of french doors that open onto a patio and the ocean. We played cards and read books there when we weren't swimming or resting in one of the numerous hammocks. Because it was the rainy season we had problems with biting bugs. They were mostly on the beach in the evening and at the restaurants. The house is well screened and has ceiling fans so bugs weren't such a problem inside. The house might not be as good for small children as the stone floors and stairs can be hard and slippery. The caretakers were great. Attentive but not intrusive. The daily maid service was wonderful and the house was very clean and well maintained. The owners were also very helpful. We spent most of our time relaxing at the beach so I can't comment on the many nearby activities such as the mayan ruins, the adventure parks or the nature reserve. The snorkeling is great a short walk down the beach where the cenote (fresh water river) meets the ocean. We snorkeled in front of the house too, but it wasn't as interesting. There were some sharp things in the sand (coral and rocks) so I recommend bringing old tennis shoes or water shoes for both walking and swimming. We brought snorkeling gear and were glad we did. The house has two kayaks and we enjoyed using them. I highly recommend this house
“What a place!”
For a week we had our own little slice of paradise. Villa Mariposa is spacious, very well situated and equipped; the kayaks were a bonus and the wifi was faster than at home! Great views from the various terraces. It would be difficult not to be able to totally unwind here. Swimming and snorkelling a few steps away with fishing, diving, cenote and beach bars all within a few minutes walk. Tulum had all we needed for shopping. The meal at Ginger (in Tulum) was great (Arrachera con Salsa de mi Mamá - memorable). Akumal and Xel-Ha an easy drive away.
“A little paradise”
We spend one week during spring break at Villa Mariposa. The house is stunning, with plenty personal touch. The bay in front if the house is very impressive: great location for snorkeling and kayaking. One of the best memory I have is the view from the shower while overlooking the bay at sunset! Amazing! We felt very safe and extremely well taken care off by the caretakers, who lived next door. I would strongly recommend Villa Mariposa to a family or a group of friends that are looking for a quiet, intimate and very comfortable accommodation.
“Rest and relaxation by the sea”
We loved Villa Mariposa! It was such a joy to awaken every morning to sunshine and a view of the bay. The best part was walking out the door and onto the beach. We did a lot of relaxing, reading books, snorkeling, trips to the ruins, and relaxing. Did I say that we relaxed? That was the best part of our trip. The driving from Cancun to Tulum, and negotiating the Chedraui grocery store in Tulum was not difficult at all. Lots of fresh veggies and plenty of the same food you find in the us. All the store aisles were in Spanish and English. Having a full kitchen, was a great bonus and really helped us with saving money. Lots of great beach restaurants on Tulum beach too. Our nine year old loved it too! If you are thinking about going and renting this villa by the sea, do it!! You won't regret it. The owners were extremely easy to deal with and very helpful. The caretakers of the property were great too.
