Description from owner

Description

Granary Cottage has been converted to a high standard, it retains its character whilst providing modern facilities. The cottage is furnished with a mix of old and modern to give guests comfortable, stylish and relaxing accommodation. It is an ideal base to explore this hidden area of Mid Wales with its rolling hills, small farmsteads and market towns. A great place just to sit and enjoy the clean air and open skies, watch the wildlife, walk, amble or sit in the garden. Wonderful quiet walking from the cottage door on our own land and further afield. We welcome well behaved dogs. The views are quite stunning with views to the near and distant hills. On the ground floor there is a spacious well equipped modern kitchen with dining area and one double bedded room with walk in shower, WC, basin and bath. An open hallway and stairs leads upstairs to a beamed, light and airy sitting room with views over farm land and the hills. Upstairs there is also a twin bedded room with ensuite bathroom with bath, WC and basin.

Outside there is a small terrace which catches the morning sun with table and chairs. There is also a separate lawned area with table and chairs that has wonderful views. There is plenty of parking outside the cottage. Free WiFi.

Only 2 miles from the Victorian Spa town of Llandrindod Wells with its 13 acre lake, spa garden and attractive buildings. Within easy reach of the market towns of Hay-on-Wye, famous for its second hand bookshops and literary festival, Kington, Rhayader and Builth Wells which is home to the Royal Welsh Showground. Ludlow with its historic black and white buildings and Michelin starred restaurants is about an hour away. The Elan Valley's magnificent dams is close by. The renowned Hergest Croft Gardens is about half an hour. The historic Abbey Cwm Hir Hall is a fascinating place to visit with its Gothic architecture and stunning interiors.

For walkers, there is Offas Dyke Path, Glyndwr's Way and the Wye Valley walk and many footpaths and bridleways. There are local shows, trotting races, food and other festivals around the area.

Further details outdoors

Getting around

There is a train station in Llandrindod Wells which is on the Heart of Wales line that runs from 121 miles from Shrewsbury to Swansea. It is a very scenic route, passing through glorious countryside and small attractive stations. At these small stations you will need to tell the guard you want to get off or put your hand out if you want to get on! It's a great way to see some of the little towns and attractions along the line, you can stop off and have lunch and then catch the train back. If you are coming from the north you can get connections from Manchester, Crewe and onto Shrewsbury.

Interaction with guest

We are normally there to greet you and show you around the cottage but if we have popped out then the cottage will be open and ready for you. When we are back we will come over and make sure you have found everything. There is a folder and a large amount of literature about the area in the cottage but if you want more help in planning your days out, we are very happy to make some suggestions. During your stay we are always about to help or chat but equally if you prefer to be left alone then we respect that.

“Wonderful place to stay.”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2021

My friend and I cannot praise this venue and owners enough. Granary cottage is off the beaten track but if you love stunning views and peace and quiet, except for the baaing of sheep, you cannot go wrong, Margot is a thoughtful and friendly host who has converted an old barn into a tasteful and well equipped ‘home from home’. 2 miles from the cottage you drop down into Llandrindod Wells pass a beautiful lake which is worth a visit especially as the shop makes good coffee! On the whole a wonderful week as the cottage is well situated to travel to so many lovely parts of Wales.
