“Great stay but some repairs needed”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2013

My husband and I plus a friend stayed at Casa Cavu and very much enjoyed it. The bay is so close that you have wonderful views from every room, and the pool is great and sparkling clean. Isidro and Rosio could not be better caretakers. I have never seen a more thorough housekeeper and Isidro cooked a fabulous dinner for us one evening - the tortilla soup is unreal! My criticisms have to do with the upkeep of the house itself. The owners really need to have some maintenance done on the outside. On our first night a light in our ceiling went out because water seeped into the recessed fixture. A bit of water was also coming down along the wall. Grant it, the rain was really pounding, but from the outside you can easily see cracks and areas of repair that are needed. A paint job is in order too. Really the outside looks kinda shabby and does not match the inside. Isidro and Rosio do such a nice job of making the place pretty and welcoming that it's a shame the exterior is not matching. Some attention to the upstairs outside deck would also go a long way. This did not stop us from enjoying the house, and we did a lot of cooking ourselves in the spacious kitchen. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms are cute too, though they are showing some real wear also. We routinely sat out on the patio and enjoyed cocktails as the sun went down. The kayaks are great. Akumal Direct was very easy to work with and I wouldn't hesitate to book through them again. Management was very responsive and did their best to accommodate our request for a coffee grinder (which is impossible to find) as well as bringing us a couple of much-needed small, plastic tables to have by the lounge chairs. All in all, a wonderful stay. I just hope the owners keep the place up!

Response from the manager Update!! Casa Cavu has been freshly painted on the outside. The house is in perfect condition as of 11/4/13. - This is our prior response to you. Thank you for your comments about your stay at Casa Cavu. We appreciate your praise for the staff, Icidro and Rocio. We are sorry for the inconvenience regarding the light. Yes,it was raining terribly hard during your stay. Management has attented to this issue and it is repaired. Late October is the time for painting and exterior maintenance. Icidro paints the exterior of the house at the end of hurricane season to avoid painting twice. Casa Cavu is about to receive a fresh coat of paint end of October. Thank you for staying with us. We will look forward to seeing you again in the future.

“A quiet relaxing corner of paradise.”

Third time at Casa Cavu and can't wait to go back again. As I have mentioned in previous reviews we love this house because of where it is and the staff. Tankah Bay is quiet and serene. Although the reopening of the old resort on the south end of the bay (now known as Pavo Real)has impacted the number of people on that part of the beach, its still not a huge crowd. Its necessary to have a car unless you want to walk the distance out to the main road for a collectivo.Casa Cavu is nice house for folks who want good accommodations and are not in need of the resort style fluff and bustle. The beach is good sand, but as noted by all before, the bay is rocky and grassy. Not ideal for swimming. That's why its great to have the pool! If some one needs sand to swim on go to Tulum Beach. As always Rocia and Isidro are so nice. There when you need them, not in your way when you want peace and quiet. On our first day Isidro brought us some freshly opened coconuts from the yard to sip the water from and put in our cocktails. A special touch.

Response from the manager Thank you so much for continuing to choose Casa Cavu for your vacation. We are sure that Icirdo and Rocio, the staff were very happy to see you again. Thank you also for taking time to comment on your stay. We all appreciate it!

“Tranquil White Sand Oasis”

If you are looking for the gorgeous beaches on Tulum but would like a respite from the hipster chaos of the playa zone, then this place is perfect. Beach front, comfortable, kid friendly, gorgeous view of the Caribbean. The staff are in credible -- get Isidro to cook for you!

Response from the manager Thank you for your comments about your stay at Casa Cavu. Yes, Tankah Tres beach located 10 minutes north of Tulum is a perfect place to relax and escape the action of Tulum beach. We appreciate you staying nice things about Icidro's cooking. We feel it is one of the nicest amenties that the house offers. We apprecaite you choosing Casa Cavu for vacation!

“Loved this beach house”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2013

The location of Casa Cavu is perfect. Just 10 minutes from lively Tulum, the quiet Tankah Bay has just enough privacy and other nice houses. It is a great base location to see the ruins and explore cenotes. Just four houses down from Casa Cavu is a bar / restaurant, cenote, little store and dive / fishing shop. But the best thing about Casa Cavu is Icidro and Rocio. Icidro is a fantastic cook and a joy to talk to, especially if you need to practice Spanish. You will find him raking the beach most morning and Rocio keeping the house nice and clean. See picture of the platter of fish Icidro cooked for us from the catch of our fishing trip. I highly recommend this house for a great vacation.

Response from the manager Thank you so much for your wonderful comments about your stay at Casa Cavu. Thank you also for posting your beautiful photos of the house and the cooked seafood! We do hope that you will return to Casa Cavu when vacation permits. We appreciate you choosing Casa Cavu for your vacation.

“Home away from home”

Reviewed 28 Feb 2013

The house is great for four adults and in good shape. Comfortable and right on the beach. A very relaxing holiday. Swim out a bit toward the reef and some very good snorkeling. No real restaurants around to walk to, but the caretakers make very good meals for a reasonable price, and you don't have to leave the house! Grocery shopping close by to stock up for breakfast and lunch. The only downsides are shoreline and beach is a bit rocky and the swimming pool water is a bit cool.

“We had a wonderful time. :-)”

Icidro and Rocio are beyond accomodating - lovely couple, a pure blessing. (Snoopy is cute too!) Be sure to snorkel/kayak the Cenote up the street and swim the underground Cenotes near the Coba Ruins. And you cannot leave without requesting Icidro to make his tortilla soup - an absolute do not miss. My husband wants me to add... the brick oven pizza down the road is a little spendy and nothing to write home about. We had a great week "stepping off" and am pleased we chose Casa Cavu to do so. Would do it again!

Response from the manager Thank you for your kind comments about our staff. We hope that you will "do it again"! We apprecaite you choosing Casa Cavu for your vacation. Thank you for staying with us.

“Lovely house & beach!”

The house was wonderful! Very clean and well maintained. We would have def. rebooked for next year but the no a/c in the living area was a bit too much for us. The chief service fantastic!

“Tanka Bay, a lovely place”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2011

Casa Cavu was much better than I anticipated. We were first greeted by Esidro as we drove up to the sweet home. How exciting to open the front door and see the lovely ocean view. We were even welcomed by a pretty rainbow and the sky was filled with color from the evening's sunset. On our first night, we walked the short walk to Cenote Cafe. The food and service were good. We visited the Coba Ruins, snorkeled, kayaked, swam, shopped in Tulum and took advantage of dining in with chef asidro, and had dinner at the cute Blue Sky Cafe. The guacamole, rice and fajitas at Blue Sky were wonderful, and the service was very, very good. It got a bit hot at times on Tankah Bay, but just as soon as you were too hot, a fun rain storm would cool things off. We joined in on the turtle tour-thank you akumal Direct for the complimentary voucher. We were excited when we got to see a couple of turtles nesting right out front of Casa Cavu in the middle of the night. Rocio kept everything clean and in order. Never slept better! We opened windows to cool the house so we could take in the sound of the soothing ocean waves at night. The only negatives were the ants on the kitchen counters and the beach trash on the vacant lot next door. Central air would have been nice to have once in a while. Thank you Marcia, for helping us find just the right vacation home! You are great!

“Clean, and excellent food”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2011

The location is perfect, the house is very clean, excellent food prepared every night ( if you pay extra),even at Xmas you keep your privacy. It could have a better air condition, less noisy. The housekeepers, Icidro and Rocio, are excellent.
