“Dirty flat in dark alley with garbage cans”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2016

The apartment was dirty with roaches. The location is in a dark alley filled with garbage cans and filth. It was very frightening to walk at night along this filthy alley. The carpet was filthy & furniture very warn. The sounds of restaurants dumping their garbage at all hours was constant. The gas fireplace was pleasan but most windows were painted shut and could not be opened at all. The sofa had tape on various rips. The size was good with split levels. The upstairs toilet leaks water & tub is very slippery. The upstairs bath glass enclosure is not secure and leaks.

Response from the manager Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It has been acknowledged previously that the fitting of the property are getting a little tired and this is going to be addressed. However I categorically refute that the apartment was dirty and that there were "roaches" these type infestations are not an issue in Scotland. The windows can be opened and there is certainly not any tape on the sofas covering rips and these comments would indicate there is perhaps a little embellishment of the experience at this property.

“Super location!!”

Reviewed 7 May 2014

My husband, daughter and I had a fantastic break in this accommodation in Edinburgh. The apartment itself was clean, had everything you needed and also included parking. This was a must when deciding on accommodation. We had chosen road travel to explore some of the countryside on our way up to Scotland. Whilst in Edinburgh, we walked to most places with shopping, restaurants and cultural sites within easy reach. I would definitely recommend this property to everyone.

“Great place to stay.”

Excellent service. Lovely apartment with garage. Resturants, bars and sights all within easy walking distance. Edinburgh is a great place to visit. Loved it all.

“Memorable for all the wrong reasons”

Reviewed 13 Jun 2013

This property is in a very convenient location, within walking distance of most sights. The property itself caters for most of your needs, however the beds could all do with new mattresses and the kitchen be supplemented with a few more items if there was the wish to move this into a higher accommodation grading. Our stay here was marred afterwards by being wrongly accused for causing damage with the iron to the carpet in the one bedroom and therefore our security deposit was retained. We had been unaware of this mark and despite our best efforts to justify our innocence - even returning to the property to view the damage - there was no way we could prove this was not done by our party and it remains our word against the managing company's (who insist the mark was not there when they inspected the property prior to our arrival). I feel this incident was not dealt with professionally and overall the injustice of the situation was infuriating. I would therefore strongly recommend that should you stay at any of Edinburgh Self Catering's properties you spend time upon arrival to thoroughly inspect, take pictures and immediately inform the property manager of any existing damage you may notice. Despite Edinburgh Self Catering's claim of not doing so, it feels like we have been cheated out of our deposit. As we always have sufficient travel insurance in place, this was the first and last time I will be booking accommodation with a company that requires additional security deposits - as I now feel there is too much scope for the deposit to be retained unfairly.

“Great location - The apartment was modern with excellent space”

Not a bad word could be said about this apartment. Great Location, lots of space with modern appliances. If your looking for accomodation that is central to Princess St with parking you cannot go wrong.

“great central location”

Spacious garage for your car. Don't be put off by the back street location as the interior is very well finished. Dave is a star for meeting and greeting but make sure you phone him to give him your eta. great wee spot !

“Neat + Handy”

Reviewed 12 Jul 2012

Nice and stylish modern apartment within walking distance of pretty much everything. Comfy beds and everything else that you need and expect from a chic city centre rental. Tea, coffee, mily already there on arrival too. As it is in a mews and close to restaurants + bars there was a little noise later at night but it didn't last long

“Ideal location for the city and the surrounding areas.”

Reviewed 3 Jul 2012

Booking was easy and friendly advice from Glen certainly helped make a choice for celebrating our Sons graduation at Edinburgh University. We had a friendly service on arrival from Dave, despite our late arrival getting lost with our sat nav! Loved the apartment clean and spacious. Kitchen was ideal for cooking and entertaining for our large group of family. Ideally placed for all the sights and just around the corner from shops food/clothes etc... maybe sometimes too close encouraging you to spend! Places to eat, loved The Ship The Outsider & The Mussel Inn all fantastic restaurants in Edinburgh. The garage was such a treat, parking in Edinburgh is a nightmare and so expensive. Early morning deliveries outside the flat can wake you up, so if you want to spend the morning in bed I suggest ear plugs! to be honest it was not a problem as we got up early most days to see the sights of bonnie Scotland. We would book again without hesitation.

“Comfortable apartment”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2012

I stayed there 3 nights with a pair of my friend I was satisfied to stay here, because I appreciate firstly big living with kitchen which is very comfortable and relaxed room. The location of it is very convenient but a little bit difficult to reach there for a stranger. You can enjoy delicious fish dish in restaurant Fish behind the apartment.
