“Friendly and helpful.”
A good home base for travelers on a budget that would like to stay long or a short time. Many residents and guests myself included intended on staying for a short period of time then decided to stay longer. It is also good for those who would like to volunteer their time or expertise in teaching English or permaculture on a day to day basis without the pressure of having to volunteer everyday. There are many residents and guests willing to share their experiences or join in on the many excursions from 27 waterfalls to the many beaches close by.
This was my 4th stay at suncamp. Property is very beautiful and I have always been treated very well by management and everybody else staying there. It is not a luxury or all-inclusive hotel but it is nice, clean, inexpensive, and overall great experience every time. Can't wait to return again this October!
“Like a second home”
I really much enjoyed spending two months at the SunCamp with Diane and others. I never felt like "just a customer" who is renting a room, but I did feel like being a part of the big SunCamp DR family and community. This place is full of pure peace and love and I will return as soon as possible.
I had a wonderful experience at Suncamp DR. I was picked up the airport by a smiling face with a sign with my name on it. The country is so green and lush. The cook at Suncamp used fresh vegetables and fruit of the area. Some fruits came from plants at the amp. My room was comfortable and I had read I might want to bring a shade for the lights and an extension cord for the fan. I had a kitchen with a refrigerator for food on my room. The river running next to camp was by our outdoor dining room and rec area. Diane was a wonderful host and taught me about the Hatian village she cares for down the mountain. I acclimated to the humidity after a few days and found my skin looked great. It was very cleansing and eye opening experience. I hope to return some day.
“One of our greatest months.”
I stayed at Suncamp with my husband and young child. We planned on volunteering and studying Spanish, in addition to relaxing and enjoying paradise. Success. Suncamp is like a little version of paradise for the adventurous traveler. There are no resorts, no pools, no all you can eat buffets. Instead, you get quiet, a warm river to swim in at your leisure, and the company of amazing travelers from around the globe. The restaurant was a great place to hang out and socialize, while eating a fantastic meal. The location is amazing. Away from the busy resorts of Puerto Plata, tucked back behind a quaint and friendly little village. Public transportation will have you in the city in no time, but there are also places around to get food and other necessities. It was so strange to wake up every single day that were there and feel like I was in a tropical haven. My daughter loved it there and still tells me she misses "Diane's place." The place is simple, which is what we wanted. No air conditioning, no sterility. Just beauty and peace. The locals are friendly, the volunteer opportunities allow you to feel like you're truly contributing, and the other activities you can set up keep you busy. We did the 27 Waterfalls and horseback riding -- both are amazing! I couldn't recommend this place enough!
“Comfortable, friendly and affordable”
Suncamp is not a service oriented establishment. If you are looking for a great place to stay where you can make new friends for life and at the same time get the feel for living in the real Dominican Republic then this is the place for you. Diane and her son Samuel are great hosts and will make sure your stay is comfortable, rooms are clean and will help you find your way around this beautiful country in a safe and economical manner. I have been returning to Suncamp regularly since 2005 and the friends I have made there still boasts of the special experience. The site is situated off the beaten path. It is on a hill side near the Munos River. Mature trees cover most of the surroundings generating well shaded rest areas. It is about 3 km from the beach and about 5 km from Puerto Plata`s main shopping district where you can find everything you will need.Ample transportation is available on site. All the rooms are very well equipped complete with kitchens including cooking accessories. Every detail has been considered for this to be your home away from home.Something missing?no problem Samuel or one of the staff will be glad to find what you need. Eventually you will settle in and render yourself to the simple living style of this rustic and eco-friendly setting. You will enjoy the tranquil community living set to awaken your senses. This little paradise given me unforgettable moments experiences but if you are looking for a five star all inclusive hotel with full size swimming pool this is not for you. Rather this little jewel is easily overlooked and nestled quietly in a tropical garden with magical effect on health and well-being. Partaking in organized activities is a must. Your hostess Diana will introduce you to all the quests and will make you feel included in the community living and fun loving folks of Suncamp. If you are ready for a dramatic change in your life this place will awaken you like nothing else in this world.

“Safe away from home”
l am a single female traveller and l felt very safe at SunCampDr. l met a lot of interesting and sympathetic people. When l was there l made some good lasting friends. We were a nice group that helped each other out and had fun on outings. The transportation be it by the Muñoz taxis or buses is very good and affordable. Diane Pellerin, the owner, is a wonderful and human person who listens and will do all she can to make your stay comfortable and interesting. During my stay there was a nice restaurant that served great breakfasts to start the day off right. The grounds are beautiful, lhad a great studio with everything l needed and slept so well listening to the river and birds. A stay at SuncampDR allows you to get back in touch with nature and oneself. l cannot say that l had trouble with mosquitos or any animals. ldid a little bit of volunteering at the Batey, the Haitian settlement near SunCamp and it helped me learn about a different culture and get a first hand knowledge of other peoples needs. l wanted to go back and still do but l have Fibromyalgia which interferes with my walking and mobility. For healthy and explorative people this is the place to be. There is a store just about 300 metres from Suncamp that sells about all the basic needs. The power goes of now and then when there are storms but hey this is the tropics. So this is why Diane strongly suggests to bring flashlights and batteries and rain wear. Friendly people, safe and good eating to be had.
warm and generous people, very welcoming. Enjoy all aspects of life. Not boring at any cost. Nothing is routine, and you do come home completely enriched and content.
