Description from manager

Description

I Cipressi is a two-storey villa of ancient Tuscan architectural tradition, situated in a delightful garden that has the dimensions and characteristics of a park and extends into a large pool area. The spaciousness of both the exterior and interior easily accommodates many people. Modern comforts have been discreetly and tastefully integrated with vintage furnishings. The history of the place is also reflected in its conspicuous trees, some of which are centuries old.

The rooms retain many design elements typical of the Tuscan style, such as ceilings with exposed wooden beams, wooden or terracotta floors, white or colored walls, mirrors, chests of drawers, dark wood furniture and wood-burning fireplaces. Some rooms also have beds with original wrought iron headboards. Overlooking the garden in front of the entrance to the villa, a large stone porch, shaded by a pergola, is the ideal place to relax and enjoy breakfast and dinner around a table of 12 seats. From this position, at sunset, you can admire the lights of the famous art cities of Montepulciano and Pienza.

LODGING: On the ground floor, the porch leads to the main entrance. To the right of the corridor, a glass door gives access to a small sitting room. From here, two steps allow to a living room with TV and fireplace, from which two French doors with lunettes open onto the garden. To the left of the corridor, a glass door leads to the dining room, furnished with a table seating up to 12 people, a lovely painted cabinet and an elegant multi-level display case built into the wall. Continuing along the corridor, on the right there is a bathroom with shower and, on the left, you go down to the kitchen, fully equipped and flanked by the laundry room. From the kitchen, which overlooks the secondary entrance of the property, you access to an open space, dominated by an imposing cypress tree and equipped with two wood-burning ovens; in this rustic environment, around a stone table you can enjoy food cooked in the traditional way. From here you can see the Etruscan town of Cortona.

An internal staircase leads to the upper floors, with the following environments. Mezzanine floor: bathroom with bathtub, shower and all modern conveniences. On the right of the bathroom, a suite composed of two rooms: another living room with double sofa bed, desk, mirror and bookcase, and a double bedroom accessed by two steps; the floors are in natural wood parquet. To the left of the bathroom, a double bedroom with a bed with wrought iron backboard and natural wooden parquet floors. A short, second stretch of stairs leads to the upper floor where are: a twin bedroom, a double bedroom with wrought iron bed and mirror, a bathroom with large shower box, and a double bedroom with wooden frames and en-suite bathroom with shower box. The paving on this floor are in terracotta.

All the windows are equipped with mosquito nets.

GARDEN & SWIMMING POOL: From a quiet country road, the main entrance gate gives access to an avenue of tall cypress trees that skirts the lawns. On the right side of the villa, cream-colored with green shutters, there is a gravel courtyard for parking, which is also accessed from the alley of the secondary entrance. In the center of the courtyard, flanked by a garage for a secure parking space, is a choreographed antique covered well. Lemon trees, geraniums in large terracotta pots and flower beds with hydrangeas line the villa. A red-flowered pomegranate tree and flowering wisteria enriching the pergola add vibrant splashes of color. In the garden in front of the house, under a gazebo, another table for 12 people offers an additional place in which to enjoy lunches and dinners.

Situated out of sight of the house in a secluded lawn, isolated from the main garden by trees, flower beds and tall hedges, is the oval swimming pool (5 x 10 meters and 1.5 meters maximum depth). It is bordered on one side by fruit trees, and on the other by lavender and rosemary hedges and oleander bushes, which form a protective screen. A row of tall cypress trees forms the boundary of the park which overlooks the spectacular landscape of the unspoilt Val di Chiana countryside, with Pienza in the distance and, perched on its hill, Montepulciano. The sunny part is fully equipped with two gazebo, sunbeds and umbrellas.

“A true TUSCAN experience. Better than words can describe.”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2015

It is quite a challenge to put into words a description of this place, the family and the amazing time we had at Vila Papale. The house and the entire property has so much history and character making this place a unforgettable experience. The gardens have a park like feeling, amazing trees, great pool and perfect views. We had barbecues and made bread and pizza in the wood oven in the back terrace almost every night during the stay. We were welcomed by the owners who also left a cake and a bottle of house wine for us in the kitchen. The INTUSCANY team that handled the booking was incredibly professional and we highly recommend them. All in all it comes to this > if you are looking for THE true tuscan experience, than this is surely the place to stay.
