“Lovely holiday house in Barga, beautiful mountainous Tuscany”
Very well kept holiday house in Barga, northern Tuscany. Family run, clean and tidy. Host family very cordial and helpful. Scenery was spectacular! Barga is a charming medieval town, with several good restaurants and a summer full of happenings. Nearest hike path goes beside the house. Host Diego also offers bicycle rental which we unfortunately did not have the opportunity to use. A car is a necessity for shopping and commuting to the old town. However, very good train connections with local trains from Barga-Gallicano to many places. Excellent base for exploring northern Tuscany! If you want to avoid the typical tourist hassle, go to Barga!
“Unforgettable vacation at It Trebbio”
We rented Il Trebbio for 12 days in September. We were very pleased with the accommodations. All rooms were spacious, well furnished, and immaculately clean. The views of Barga, the valley below and the mountains across were spectacular. The owner was very friendly and easy to work with. We also appreciated the small gestures offered upon our arrival such as a basket of fresh fruits and vegetables and a bottle of wine, and as we arrived late, hungry, and unfamiliar with the area, we were given escort to a local restaurant. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to spend a week or a season in this wonderful area of Tuscany aldo Magri
“The Best of Views”
Staying at Il Trebbio was one wonderful day after another. The morning sun rise over Barga was just the best. Diego and family were very helpful and Diego was always prompt in answering our e-mails which is always very assuring for travelers. Il Trebbio is perfect for 2 or 3 couples even though you share a bath on the main living floor. Having our morning coffee on the terrace, overlooking Barga and the Serchio Valley was a great way to start our day. The location is up a winding road so may not be good for an iffy driver, for us we had no problems, a car is a must. We did not have internet the week we were there, but we found a great Wi-Fi Bar in Barga where we had our morning cappuccino's and Italian sweets to die for. Even got to know some of the locals. Diego, Sonia, Amelia and angelo are a delightful family and make some great wine and olive oil. Barga and the surrounding area is a perfect place to explore another part of Tuscany that is far from the maddening crowds yet close enough to visit cities like Lucca and Pisa. We hope we can return in a few years for a longer stay.
Response from the owner So sorry for Internet service but unfortunatley that week we had some problems with our access point...we needed to change it! We learned the lesson...now there's a spare one already setted available in the villa, if the main one go down it's enough to switch one the second one. CIAO E GRAZIE
“Friendly people, spotless home and "post card view"!”
This was our first time visiting Italy and what a wonderful place to begin our adventure. We were 2 couples traveling and Diego's home was the perfect spot for us. At first we thought the drive up into albiano a bit daunting but now after 3 weeks in Italy, it was a piece of cake! We made Il Trebio our home base and did day trips to Florence, Lucca, the Cinque Terra and La Spezia. We actually went to Florence on 2 separate days. We drove to Lucca, parked the car at the train station and took the train into Florence...a wise decision. We also took the train from Lucca, via Florence over to Venice for 2 nights, another wonderful trip. Back to the house...the bedrooms were upstairs and very spacious and each had it's own large bathroom with roomy showers. the view out the bedroom windows looked across the valley to Barga. I took many pictures of this beautiful scene whenever the light changed. The kitchen was well equipped and modern. The kettle sprung a leak one day and we mentioned it to Diego and the next morning, a brand new one was at the house! We enjoyed our breakfast on the patio every morning and spent countless hours basking in the sun on the patio enjoying our wine. We spent 2 weeks at this lovely home and miss it terribly! Diego's mother, Amelia and father, Angelo came by to visit during our time as well. Between a bit of our French and improving Italian and their ability to speak some English, we had some terrific animated conversations. Google translator got a workout as well. Anyone staying here will be very glad they did!
We had a fantastic 3 weeks at IL Trebbio just outside Barga. The views from the terrace were amazing and the villa was just right for our needs. Diego and family were really helpful and always ready to advise restaurants or places to visit. We were there for three weeks and had a really wonderful time, travelling by car or train all over the region, Florence, Siena, Lucca as well as all the small Tuscan villages on the doorstep a truly marvellous holiday. Walks from the door to nearby albiano or down the old mule track to have a paddle in the stream or a shower under the waterfall...first class.
Deigo's Mum and Dad were absolutely lovely amelia and angelo. The accommodation was immaculately clean . We have 3 young children and they loved the patio area and garden. Lots of lavender and butterflies for them to chase. The views from the house and patio area were stunning. It is a 10 minute drive into Barga...which is a beautiful authentic Italian walled town. However, there is a small supermarket/restaurant and pool in albiano. The pool has spectacular views and is friendly ,welcoming and clean. It is about 1 km from the house...so we tended to drive there with the children as it was a bit hot for the children to walk there.
Il Trebbio's location on a hillside affords great views of Barga and the Serchio Valley. Whether you are on the front porch or the bedroom window, the scenery is breathtaking. The master bedroom is spacious - large by European standards, with plenty of storage space and light. The front porch has a large dining table and an awning protects you from the afternoon's bright sun. The kitchen is small yet adequate, with plenty of room in the fridge The house was our base for hiking - perfectly situated for hikes up the hill to Sommocolonia. You'll need a car to explore the Serchio Valley and drive to other locations for explorations and hikes. The host family graciously attended to us, meeting us on day 1 to escort us to the home, helped us out with hiking trails, and were warm and friendly, welcoming us with a bottle of wine from the family vineyards.
Very nice apartment with fabulous view of the valley and town. The apartment is a very old building that has been very tastefully restored. Excellent size bedrooms each with private bath.
“Fabulous location for exploring Tuscany”
I'll break this review down to three parts. Hopefully, that helps. First, the villa itself. It's an immaculately maintained facility with a magnificient view of Barga and the surrounding river valley from the awning-covered patio and side windows. According to the owners, it was recently rehabbed and it shows. All the fixtures and appliances are new, and of top quality. The decor is vintage Italian which presents a nice contrast to all the new. The queen bed we used was quite comfortable. Off-street parking is convenient. Second, the area. Barga is a Medieval town with a lively (though not crowded by any means) tourist trade, lots of very good and very fairly priced restaurants (Chicago, Illinois, USa, is our benchmark here), a modern supermarket, modern drygood store and plenty of other specialty shops. From Barga you can easily access Firenze (Florence), Pisa, Siena, Cinque Terre, La Spezia, and really unique pre-Roman Empire mountain towns like Volterra (near Siena). All within a 3 hour drive, max. And finally, the hosts. Diego and his father/partner, Angelo, will make your stay a perfect one. The first day, in fact, Diego had to drive 20 minutes outside of town (on a Sun afternoon, mind you) to fetch us and escort us to the villa after our GPS got lost and simply sat down on the job. Throughout the week, the two co-owners (and the other son, Antonio) assisted with tourist informtion and other unanticipated odds and ends. They are friendly folks with a genuine customer-first mid-set. In short, you can't go wrong here if you're heading to Tuscany and want your stay to be a perfect one.
We had a weekend at il Trebbio and enjoyed the experience enormously - while it is a little outside Barga, the views from the villa made it worthwhile. A very comfortable house with magnificent views of the Tuscan valley near Barga. The hosts were very gracious and had some local home made goodies to welcome us. Great for families or group of friends, but we found the verandah and stairs to the garden a little nerve wrecking with 4 year olds. There is a great local pool 10 min from the house that is worth a splash in summer.
